One girl disappeared. After fifteen years, her cold lifeless body was found on the damp forest floor. Not an inch of her was unmarked by the horrors she endured. Alone, malnourished, abused in horrific ways; this was how she died. One girl was found walking the streets, covered in dirt and scars. She had no memory of who she was, where she came from, or what happened to her. Even though the marks … the marks on her body attested to years of heinous abuse, her strength shone through at every turn.
Revenge and justice were sworn.
Years of searching brought up nothing but dead ends. Detective Niko James was too late to save his childhood friend, but he vows not to let down another.
The clock is ticking and the trail is pitch dark.

5 BEAUTIFUL HEARTBREAKING STARS!! OMG…what a ride I just went on. This one will pull on your heartstrings and touch your heart. Niko and North will engrave their names on your heart….I absolutely loved this story.
So according to Goodreads I read this book back in ’18 (I didn’t know the importance of reviewing back then). Although some parts felt familiar it was mostly like reading a book for the first time again having read over a 1000 since then and boy am I grateful for that as what an amazing book.
With twists you’ll never see coming and characters that bury themselves into your heart I’m surprised I didn’t remember every second, but think no matter how many times read you will always find a detail that blows your mind.
Highly recommend and I’m diving immediately into book 2.
What an amazing story! Yes, it’s very dark and often depraved showcasing the disgusting mindset of some people. The fact is, this type of situation has happened and does happen, whether it’s exactly like this or not, it’s real, unfortunately. These authors though, have done this subject matter justice in this story and I applaud them for their telling of such a heartbreaking tale.
The story is told in two timeframes, younger years and present time, and is mostly told by the lead character, Niko James. Having Niko tell most of the story is vital as it gives readers insight into him at both stages of his life and in between. It shares intimacies and secrets between him and Aislin that others wouldn’t know and it shares so many feelings. Lelu’s parts are horrific but necessary to get a clear picture of the depravity she suffered, the enormous emotional and physical trauma too.
I took extra time to read and digest this story as it had such an impact. As I said, there is a lot of darkness in the story but there is also a lighter side, this lightness comes in different forms, originally it’s hope, then it’s care for others—although that’s a major factor throughout—and then there’s relief and acceptance.
Pitch Dark is a well-written story that I recommend without hesitation for those who can hand this type of book.
SERIOUSLY. This title and this blurb can not warn you for the intensity of the words that are held within the binding of this book. This story will take you where your mind can’t even imagine. I’m of firm belief that these authors must have got their hands on an actual police report, because how could they have made this story up?
I’ve fought myself for 3+ years against reading this book. A friend said how much she loved it. I just couldn’t bring myself to it, but I caved. Can I say that I loved it? NO. Because then I have to ask myself what’s wrong with me. But OMG, the story and where it goes and the turns it takes and the truth that is eventually revealed has blow me away! The writing, the story line, the depth that these two authors had to reach within themselves to combined the words that tell such a twisted story is awe inspiring. I have to question them for writing and myself for consuming the words that took me on a journey I couldn’t put down. And now… I have such a short time to prepare myself for book 2 of this series.
YES, this book is worth 5 stars and more!
Wow incredibly dark from start to finish.Graphic rape and torture scenes that pushed me to my limits. This book is not for the faint of heart. There are lots of crazy twists I didn’t see coming. I don’t usually have a problem with dark but this was almost to much for me.
First if you have triggers be forewarned. This is a very dark book that contain a lot of sensitive issues. Now, OMG what a wild ride. So many emotions went into this book I don’t even know where to begin. So many heartbreaking, gut wrenching moments there were. Holy crap I loved these characters. This author most definitely knows how to make you feel what the characters were feeling. Doe lived a lifetime worth of horrific atrocities. Niko lived a lifetime of trying to find his best friend and feeling so much guilt not being able to find her. But he feels drawn to help Doe thinking since he couldn’t save Aislin that maybe it will help ease his guilt. There were so many times that you wanted to say don’t go there or don’t do that. That just goes to show you how well written this book was. This was such a fantastic book. So so good and can’t wait for the next book.
I can’t deny that this is dark and very twisted. The twist will absolutely blow you away. Whilst I was pleased I figured some bits out I now think that was cleverly crafted by these amazing authors to lull you into a false sense of security. Almost like lambs to the slaughter; lining up there readings before pulling the proverbial rug out from under us.
I was left with a couple of questions about the plot so I did finish the book feeling a little cheated. But all told I think I was totally unprepared for how depraved one character actually got. This book is not for the faint hearted. Proceed with caution
Omg. My mind is absolutely blown after reading this book. Exactly as the name suggests, this story was Pitch Dark. I never expected the twists and turns that the plot took. I’m going to end my review now because I think it’s best to go into this book blind. If you like dark books, you will LOVE Pitch Dark.
This book is dark. Like really really dark, and i love it! The pain, oh god the pain. It jumps off the page and wraps itself inside you. The ending was perfect, and im glad it ended the way it did.
Five Stars are not enough for this amazing story !
Oh my god what a dark twisted awesome heartbreaking moving thrilling roller coaster ride of a book !
Warning does contain many triggers!!
Wow just wow a couple of times I almost reached my limits with this book but I am so happy that I pushed through it is a dark emotional book with of course a yummy strong alpha male and a awesome kick ass take numbers chick that does lose herself for a little while (and who wouldn’t!) but is still the strongest woman I have ever read about ! Bloody awesome I’m going to say I loved it !
And that ending ohhhhhh my lord !
Definitely a must read !
While I was initially disappointed with the beginning of this story, it ended up being a decent read. It was a bit repetitive but I have to say it did have some twists I didn’t see coming, which doesn’t usually happen for me. The prologue and the blurb definitely sucked me in but I wasn’t hooked until about halfway. I would recommend it, with a heavy trigger warning.
This book definitely has some scenes that vividly describe violent, brutal rapes, so if that’s a trigger for you….This may not be the book for you.
I’m not sure what genre to put this book in, there is a mystery in who took Aislin. There is also horror in the vivid descriptions of her treatment.
Austin moved in next door to Logan with her mom when Aislin was just 10 years old. Her mom was not a good one, she liked drugs and often serviced men to get money to pay for them. Aislin often got scared and ran off. Logan being a couple years older felt he needed to look out for her and became quite fond of her. Logan could find her when no one else could. He started calling her North because she had a birth mark shaped like a star behind her left ear and he said she was like the North star, always there to guide him so he would always find her. The 2 became closer and Aislin would go to Logan’s house at night when she was scared, she if confided in his mom at times. So when Aislin disappeared at the age of 13, Logan tried to get someone to call the police, or look for her, but he was only 15 and everyone else was sure she ran away. Logan new she would never run away from him, so as he got older he decided to pick a profession that would help him look for Aislin, which is why he became a police detective.
I liked this book for it’s twists. I think the author is extremely descriptive. This is a very dark tale of a twisted mind. There is a lot going on in this story once you get into it. I was surprised by the plot twist at the end, it was not something I expected. The only thing I didn’t like was, I thought Logan’s guilt was a bit extreme.
This book was well written and an excellent addition to my library.
