What happens when an assaddin has a nervous breakdown? After the owner of a security company is murdered, his sharp-edged wife goes on the run. Forced to abandon everything she holds dear—her home, her friends, her job in special ops—she builds a new life for herself in England. As Ashlyn Hale, she meets Luke, a handsome local who makes her realise just how lonely she is. Yet, even in the sleepy … how lonely she is.
Yet, even in the sleepy village of Lower Foxford, the dark side of life dogs Diamond’s trail when the unthinkable strikes. Forced out of hiding, she races against time to save those she cares about. But is it too little, too late?
Please be aware that although one story arc is concluded in this book, Diamond’s full story is told over books 1-3 in the Blackwood Security series.

Great series.
4/5 – Good, but with a few problems…
::::THE GOOD::::
– PLOT | It was quite nice. I thought it’d be an action-adventure novel, but it was more of a romance with a violent twist. I don’t quite know how I thought it’d be an espionage story, but yeah. I really liked it.
– CHARACTER POV |Ash/Emmy is our narrator and protagonist. SHe cracks a few nice jokes and makes being stuck in her head quite a pleasant experience.
– WORD CHOICE | It’s quite easy to read. The author made a very accessible story. She didn’t try to sound smart, using big obscure words found only in the depths of an old Thesaurus. English isn’t my first language and, as I learnt the US variety as a second language, I had to look a few words up. Chances are you ain’t gonna need it.
::::THE BAD::::
– POV | The story is narrated in the first person (I), primarily from Ash’s/Emmy’s point of view. I’m not a huge fan of first-person narration, but I found it relatively okay here. The biggest problem to me was when the author shifts to the third person to narrate what’s outside of the MC’s range. I wish she’d committed to her choice instead of going ‘Frankenstein’ with it. If you’ll just change perspective, what’s the point?
– BANG | The sex scenes were a tad bit too dumb. They were always semi-described, starting and not finishing. I figure she could have gotten away narrating the first one more thoroughly and sticking to glossing over the rest. They’d feel more complete if the detail balance was shifted a bit. I don’t know if I conveyed what I meant, but it’s a minuscule nit-pick.
– TIA | She started as a teen and suddenly becomes a child. I don’t know if I just read it wrong, but that’s my impression. She also forgets her fingernail problem by the end. This might be just me reading wrong though.
Anyway, loved it. ( ^-^)
Awesome read. A must read.
So I came across this book on Wattpad and I did not want to go to sleep till I had finished this book. I loved Diamond and her team. It was a book that made me feel all sorts of emotions. Great author and I’m looking forward to reading the other books in the series. Definitely a must-read!
Enjoyed the story and the characters. It is a great short introduction to the series.
I’ve now read every title in this series and even have the next on pre-order. If you like kick-arse heroines who don’t take **** from anyone, then this series is for you. They’re fast-paced, action-packed and even funny and sad in places. Check them out for yourself.
Awesome Romantic Thriller! I’m Now Hooked on the Blackwood Security Series!!! 🙂
Buy this book if you like romantic thrillers with strong leading ladies, amazing characters and twists and turns you don’t see coming! Warning: This book is the first of The Blackwood Security Series and if you read this one, you’ll want to read them all! There is some strong language (cussing), but it completely fits Ash / Emmy’s character. With her background, I’d be disappointed if Ash / Emmy didn’t swear! One of my favorite things about Elise’s writing style is her character development! I honestly feel like her characters are my imaginary friends! I highly recommend this book! I’d give it 10 stars if I could! 🙂
Pitch Black
Pitch Black is the first book I read by Elise Noble. I found myself intrigued and drawn to this woman who was on the run. Assuming the identity of Ashlyn Emily Hale after being dubbed “Black Widow” by the press and in fear of the lives of her friends, diamond travels to England to heal from the loss of her husband.
The adventure starts but does not end here. Her life is slowly restored and when revealed, I found myself wanting to know more about this woman, her friends and the husband she lost.
I received this book free and promised an honest review. It is a great book and so are the others that I purchased.
