Or will the killer, who has pulled off a nearly Pit Perfect murder, expose her to keep Lily and her dog from digging up the truth?
Fall in love with Lily Mason, the shifter who only wants to live as a human, and her pit bull Smooshie, a rescue dog who in the end may be the one doing the rescuing!
Book 1 of the Barkside of the Moon Mysteries from USA Today bestselling paranormal cozy mystery author Renee George, is an exciting tale of mystery and suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat. A clean read full of humor and small town charm, mystery, and even a little romance.

As the housemate of a sweet pit bull who adopted me, I saw myself and my canine shadow in this delightfully adventurous episode. We both loved it.
I enjoyed the read, looking forward to the next book in the series.
Quick, easy fun read. Romance, murder mystery and shapeshifters. It has it all.
This is a paranormal mystery novel. A young woman settles in a small town and becomes involved with lots of the locals and with a couple of murders. There twists and turns and some romance. This is a good Summer read.
i love these books
I liked this book from the sign telling you @ Earl not getting his checks accepted. The protagonist is funny, nosy, loves her dog and has a tragic backstory. The town is realistic, half the town have secrets they would like to take to their graves. There is a victim who is described as someone “the devil would run away from.” The book is funny and you would never guess why the victims are murdered or by whom.
Shifters, Pit Bulls and a Cozy Mystery
What a fun combination of characters! We have a heroine who is a were-cougar, she is adopted by a rescue Pitty she names Smooshie and they find a dead body. There is a lot of fun in this small Missouri town of humans. There is plenty of dogs and war veteran with PTSD. This is a fun story that will keep you guessing. I bought this book about a year ago and finally read it. I enjoyed it so much that I bought book 2 in the series as soon as I finished book 1. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I do.
Enjoyed this book. All the different charactors and the pitt bull was awesome. Nothing like a mystery with paranormals involved.
Another fun story by Renee George. I have been binge reading the first books in her series the last few days, and can say I found me a new favorite author. I had just finished reading Witchin’ Impossible, another first in a different series by the same author, and was surprised that Lily Mason was also in that book, and Hazel and Tizzy in this book. It also was a good book that I could not put down. So here is my review of Pit Perfect Murder. Lily’s ambitions are to find a job, a place to live, and to live as a human, you see, Lily is a witch and a cougar shifter. She ends up in Moonrise, Missouri, hoping to meet the last of her family. Right off the bat she meets Smooshie, a pit bull, who rescues her. Through Smooshie she meets Parker, who offers her a job and a place to live. There are a couple murders in town, and Lily is involved in solving them. I never guessed who the murderer was. Will she be able to keep her secret, no one knows she can shift. Murder, romance, and paranormal all in one. This was a fun story and I want to read more from this author, she is very entertaining. I was given an ARC of this book from the author, but to be honest, it was in my TBR pile. So I am leaving an honest and unbiased review because I want to.
Smooshie is an amazing pitty who saves Lily Mason from getting run over as they first meet. As Lily puts it, she’s seems to have adopted her. It looks like they might just be saving each other.
Lily had a rough road before arriving in Moonshine .
Having buried her parents and brother, she wanted to meet her uncle, believed by non-shifters to be her cousin. She may have found a lot more than a pitty companion- if she can stay alive and out of trouble long enough to explore and enjoy it.
Fantastic story filled the great characters. It is entertaining and interesting. Grabs your attention and doesn’t let go till you are finished.
I enjoyed this start to the series, and will definitely read the next one. I loved the characters–human, shifter, and canine–and the mystery was interesting too. I volunteer in an animal shelter, so I appreciated the positive portrayal of the pitbulls in the story! Looking forward to seeing what happens with Lily, Parker, Smooshie, and Elvis in the next book.
Like all cozy mysteries this is just good clean fun. Nice for when you need to take a quick break with a cup of tea before tackling the tons of things a busy woman can find to do during the day!
Cute story. Will definitely read other books by this author.
I enjoyed this book. But it is also a paranormal story about human/animal shifters. It’s mostly a mystery where two of the characters are shifters, so it’s a very minor part of the story
