A lovely story of childhood friends who lose each other, only to find each other later and move on to forever.
Fairly well edited.
Baylor and State grew up together in less than ideal circumstances. They were a lifeline for each other, finding refuge when the world was crazy. When they are both orphaned, they are separated. State is adopted by a family and taken away from Baylor. Eventually, Baylor was also adopted by a caring social worker – Miss Tami. Along the way, Miss Tami also adopted Rowe, a young girl with Down’s Syndrome. Baylor has had a difficult time growing and adjusting, but has settled into a stable routine. When at work one day, she is shocked to come face to face with her childhood best friend, State. He has grown so much, and is now playing football for the University of Florida. (Boo!) State makes his way back into Baylor’s life, and picks up where his heart left off. Together, they face opposition from teammates, disappointed female groupies, and even State’s adopted mother. Rowe brings great personality to the mix. State accepts her into his life as readily as he welcomes Baylor back into his life. Will State be able to withstand all the opposition? Will Baylor trust that State is back in her life? Will she believe that she can fit into his new life?
This was a really enjoyable story. State knew what he wanted, both on and off the football field. He moved forward with single-minded purpose. It was those around him that expressed opposition or doubt. In the end, this was quite the satisfying read. Enjoy!
I don’t know how HJ Bellus does it, but chalk this one up to another HAVE TO READ!! This book will tear your heart out and make it whole, then tear it out again. Have some tissues ready. Two of my favorite lines from this book are: “This man is so much more than love. He’s my shelter.” and “It’s never over until my last breath.”
I loved this one!!! It’s was so sweet and mushy Gave me tons of warm feelings.
Love the connection they have together
I’m not to sure about this one. There were parts I loved, and parts I didn’t like. I loved the relationship Baylor had with Rowe. Honestly Rowe made the story. Miss Tami was also a big part. However Baylor seemed off, I know she had a traumatic childhood, but to say how strong she is and how she moved on is a lie. She needed some serious counseling, even years later. I honestly didn’t really like her. Yikes! I know. But then towards the end, wow I was really sucked it. It brought me to tears. All in all I my dislikes for this book were for a character, it had nothing to do with the writing style. I get so sucked in they are like real people to me 🙂
Where do I start with this review, this book deals with some very serious issues and I found HJ Bellus handled these with the respect they deserved. She showed us through her characters we are strong and with the right people to influence and support you it is possible to achieve a life. State and Baylor’s story is inspirational, romantic and motivational. When these two are ripped apart at a young age it will be that pinky promise made as children that will be what keeps one of them focused and never losing site of the end game…….. FOREVER. I normally cry a river with books written by HJ Bellus as she pours her heart and soul into the story but with this one it was more like I cried a creek but it does not mean there was any less substance to their story. State and Baylor filled me with hope, love and a smile that would have lit up a stadium at what this man would do for the one person he has always loved. You will not only fall in love with State and Baylor but with all the secondary characters even though Princess Rowe could not ever be considered second. Pinky Promise captured my heart from the very first page and held me hostage until the very last word of the epilogue.
I loved this book! The characters are amazing…in fact State is my favorite of the Bellus boys! Everyone needs a State in their life….
