I purchased a copy of Pineapple Jailbird: A Pineapple Port Mystery: Book Eight – A funny, thrilling & cozy (ish) mystery (Pineapple Port Mysteries 8) by Amy Vasant and this review was given freely.
A snake, a dog, a rivalry, an old airsrip, and a sniper are blended into this eighth sequel in the Pineapple Port Mystery Series. Complex and action packed with a hint of humor. Hired assassins Stephanie and her mother Jamie are featured in this novel where Declan has a positive influence on Stephanie sparking an ember for change. Charlotte with the help of Declan, Darla and Frank must solve the mystery of what happened to Bob and Mariska while Jamie tries to enlist Charlotte’s help in getting Stephanie out of jail and Declan is shot at.
Charlotte has to solve a murder to save her family from a hit woman’s threats of harm. With the help of her boyfriend, Declan, his Uncle Seamus, her adopted family, and various (hopefully) reformed criminals in the WitSec program, she works her way through the mystery while fighting off various animals trying to kill her. Lots of twists and turns and a couple huge surprises along the way. Charlotte has no idea what kind of neighbors she has in her community. Funny, great characters, keeps you guessing. I’ve been a fan of Amy’s books for years and I’ve read them all. Great cozy mysteries. The only bedroom scene involves Declan, Charlotte, a giant Wheaton dog sleeping between them, and a few family members in other rooms….oh, and lots of bugs too.
Here is another funny book from Amy Vansant and her fictional retirement community of Pineapple Port. This one starts out with Charlotte’s neighbors Bob and Mariska being kidnapped. The kidnapper leaves mannequins in their bed and pens a note for Charlotte telling her she has to get Stephanie out of jail or everyone she loves will die. Charlotte rouses the residents, and then Bob and Mariska come home driving their own golf cart while decorated for Christmas and tied up to boot. Then we have Declan’s employee Blade, who installs motion-activated cameras all around Charlotte’s house to help keep her safe. Naturally, the precautions fail. This is an amazingly humorous book. I loved it, and I think you will too.
a great series that is wonderful to read
Charlotte and the crinkly crew are back causing mayhem wherever they go!
There are family secrets, double-dealing, FBI stings and more on the go. If PETA ever gets a hold of this bad guy they are going to kill him!
I also have a giggle at the dynamic duo and how Frank puts up being married to one of them I’ll never understand. Some of the attempts of Charlotte and co are creative, to say the least!
This book was excellent. I loved it. It was very unpredictable. Killing with animals? I could see this happening in real life. It was a real page turner. Don’t the length stop you. I almost did because I figure it would take a little longer than a week to finish but no the book was so good I read it in 3 days. I recommend this book highly and can’t wait to read the others.
I haven’t read an Amy Vansant book that I haven’t given a five star rating to and I am not about to start with this book either.
This book continues where pineapple gingerbread men left off (if you haven’t read that book then why not?) Stephanie has been charged with murder. Yeah about time the only problem is she didn’t do this one and her crazy serial killer mother is on the rampage. This all means for one resident of Pineapple Port retirement community things are going to get complicated as she gets blackmailed into trying to clear Stephanie ‘s umm good name.
You can always count on Amy to write about the unexpected and throw twists at you that are fun, entertaining and amusing. All in all you can pick up any of her pineapple Port books and know that you are in for a good read. Even if you don’t start with the first book. I can’t wait for the whole series to be added to audio books, this one included.
I love this series so much that I have several sites set up to inform me when the next book is available. I have an author crush on Any Vansant, I can’t help it! If you wished in your youth that you could get small and go live in a book, you’ll LOVE Pineapple Port as an adult. Each book is fine as a standalone, but betcha can’t read just one!
The characters are quirky and delightful, the mysteries are satisfying, the humor is laugh out loud funny, and the entertainment value is a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10.
I recommend Pineapple Jailbird, but you’ll have even more fun if you start with the first and work your way up. Don’t blame me for the addiction, blame Miss Vansant!
Amy Vansant creates an amazing variety of characters with snort worthy humorous antics and intrigue.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I love this author’s sense of humor. The story is fantastic and kept me in a sheer state of enjoyment till the end. I was surprised by the ending as well. Great book!
Mommy Dearest
If you loved Lucy, The Golden Girls, and Laverne and Shirley, you will adore author Amy Vansant’s latest Pineapple tale. Slapstick humor abounds as our heroine, a newly minted a private investigator, finds herself threatened at every turn by wildlife of every description. Pineapple Port is an old-age community. If you live long enough you are likely to end up in one, regardless of what you used to do for a living. Makes for some interesting neighbors! I just deleted a couple of sentences that may have provided spoilers–so I simply recommend that you read and laugh for yourself. I have enjoyed a few of the other books in this series but, although previous capers are referenced, any information needed is provided, so this can easily be read as a standalone if you haven’t had the joy of dipping into these stories before.
This is the book the rest of the series has been leading up to, and it didn’t disappoint. There were a few more interesting characters and another creative plot. Looking forward to reading the next one!
A retirement village doesn’t have to be boring. You just don’t know who they were before they retired and moved to Florida.
The unexpected happens in a retirement community.
