“A cozy little mystery that . . . soon draws the reader into Madison’s mid-century modern fantasy world of fashion, movies, friendship, loyalty, and violence” (New York Journal of Books). Interior decorator Madison Night might look like a throwback to the sixties, but as business owner and landlord, she proves that independent women can have it all. But when a killer targets women dressed in … killer targets women dressed in Madison’s signature style—estate sale vintage to play up her resemblance to fave actress Doris Day—what makes her unique might make her dead.
The local detective connects the new crime to a twenty-year-old cold case, and Madison’s long-trusted contractor emerges as the leading suspect. As the body count piles up, Madison uncovers a Soviet spy, a campaign to destroy all Doris Day movies, and six minutes of film that will change her life forever.
“If you are looking for an unconventional mystery with a snarky, no-nonsense main character, this is it . . . Instead of clashing, humor and danger meld perfectly, and there is a cliffhanger that will make your jaw drop.” —RT Book Reviews

I’m a huge fan of movies from the 40s & 50s (yes, that’s why Jack Hawkes seems to be modeled from old Cary Grant movies), so it’s no wonder I love Diane Vallere’s Madison Night series with its homage toward classic Doris Day movies. Curl up in your favorite reading chair and give yourself a break with this book and series.
What a fun cozy! Mid-century modern decorator Madison Night is up to her vintage pedal pushers in dead Doris Day lookalikes in this first of Diane Vallere’s Mad for Mod mysteries, and this cozy lover is now planning to dig out her copy of Pillow Talk for tonight’s viewing pleasure. A fun read with a great mystery that kept me guessing, and what a …
Madison Night has started over in Dallas, and her life is going well, including her interior design company specializing in mid-century modern designs. However, things take a surprising turn when she finds an acquaintance dead under her car. Suddenly, the police won’t leave her alone. But is that because they think her friend is the killer? Or …
Even though this was a murder mystery, it was a fun read. I enjoyed it so much that I bought the next two books in the series.
I love this series. I have read the first three so far. I am a huge fan of the Doris Day movies and love the way the character identifies with Miss Day. I loved the witty banter and character development. I highly recommend the series!
I had read the most current book in this series, Apprehend Me No Flowers, and really enjoyed it and wanted to go back and start at the beginning of the series to get caught up. I have never seen a Doris Day movie, and there were several references to her and her movies in the book, but I found this was an interesting side note to the …
The novella intro to the series, Midnight Ice, was so good, I had to keep reading. Very inventive and unexpected. The police lieutenant’s presence might be expected but as a character, he is certainly a character. Enjoyed Madison, too, as a woman of experience.
A fun book. Madison Night is an interior decorator specializing in mid-century homes and dressing in 50s/60s clothing. She is a big Doris Day fan as well. This book has several people resembling Doris Day ending up murdered and Madison’s handyman is the prime suspect. I enjoyed Madison’s character and look forward to reading more of her …
Very enjoyable book. Believable characters and a mystery that keeps you guessing until the very end.
Great
Fun book, easy to read.
Keeps the reader guessing. Very entertaining
Poorly written and disappointing.
I enjoyed the subject matter of movie and design interwoven in a murder/romantic genre that ends with a fantastic plot twist!
The first entry in the series introducing Madison Night and her mid century modern decorating business Mad About Mod and her love of anything Doris Day. A well constructed mystery that keeps you guessing.
Fun!
Liked the read easy pace and funny.
