Now an Amazon Top 15 Bestseller Maxon Chambers has a way of stealing all the attention. All my affection, and all my dreams. What I needed to remember was he’d stolen my good judgment and my virginity, too. When he broke up with me, I ran across the country and swore I’d never return to Broadshire Rim.But here I am, thirteen years later.Maxon is all grown up.Sexier than sin and more tempting than … years later.
Maxon is all grown up.
Sexier than sin and more tempting than ever.
A detective on the Charleston force, he lives on the outside of safety, devoted to protecting the people of his city.
But with the way he’s looking at me now? I’m pretty sure what needs protecting is my heart.
Can we mend the pieces of us? Or will he leave my heart shattered forever . . .more
The entire confessions of the heart series has been amazing. The supporting characters touch our hearts just as much as the main characters. They all support the stories and help build up the defining characteristics we fall in love with in the H and h. Ben in this book with his sweet sweet spirit and optimism and Dillon with his uncanny ability to be both mischievous and somehow wise in the things he says, really helped build up the story and support the main characters through their journeys. Bravo on that AL Jackson because it’s sometimes hard to create a support system that’s as endearing as the ones you’ve created.
Throughout the series we’ve seen these men torn up by life’s circumstances and we’ve seen how they allow the sins of their past make them believe that they aren’t worth happiness and joy in life but in AL Jacksons words through Mrs. Lane “whose joy is forgotten is lost and whose heart is free is found”
The ghosts of the past have haunted Maxon Chambers for a long time but none more than Izzy and when she comes back into his life after years apart, he knows he can’t let her go again. But, things are more than just a 2nd chance at true love, there’s more at stake now, there are more hearts to win over for this HEA.
I’m so happy the series ended the way it did. Mack deserved to free his heart and find joy. And so did Izzy, and they found it in each other. The little bird and big dragon who saved each other. “There’s not enough time in eternity for me to use up the love I have for you”
Endless love : -)
Thanks for another amazing book

Yeah!
Mack Daddy!!!
I loved it !!!
This series is awesome !!
Can’t wait for more from her. I have loved everything I have read so far !!
Mack is my very favorite kind of hero. He is snarky, gruff, strong and yet still sweet and honorable and just a little broken. This was a book I just couldn’t put down. The history between Mack and Izzy is so intense and is given in just enough pieces throughout the story to keep you on the edge. Every time the story drops to the past, you get just a little more insight into the choices and consequences of the present. Benjamin….that kid make this book for me in a big BIG way. His character was written with such compassion that you can’t help but love him. AL Jackson has a way of crafting the world and her characters in a way that makes her a one-click auto buy for me every.single.time.
Let me start by saying I’ve been in a major book funk. You know the type. You pick something up, put it down, repeat. It seems like you’ll never break the cycle. Well when I picked this up, I was in a funk. So I struggled with it. Ended up putting it down for a few days, and then I came back to it. I’m not sure what changed for me to be honest, but this time I was able to read it with out putting it back down. I want to clarify I didn’t put it down the first time because it’s a bad book or because of the writing, I put it down because I wasn’t in the right mind space to enjoy it.
BUT when I came back to it, this is the book that broke thru my funk. It was written beautifully and felt very real. There were real life struggles that made the characters relatable. Being a second chance romance, there were a few flashbacks which I really enjoyed. It helped me get a deeper feel for the characters and see their growth thru time.
Bottom Line. Great read…even if you’re in a funk. Any book that can break me out of a funk is a good one. If you find yourself in my shoes, maybe this will end up being the book to break you out of your funk too.
A broken heart left Izzy fleeing from the place that she once called home. Determined to never step foot in her hometown again, Izzy held a lot of burdens upon her shoulders. When one of her sons required medical intervention that could only be found close to her childhood home, Izzy swallowed her pride and moved back in with her parents. The one thing that forced Izzy to dread this homecoming even more was the prospect of facing her past.
All of the substantial moments from Izzy’s past center around Maxon. He was her savior even at a young age. Now the two face the feelings that never went away, in spite of a not so pleasant break up. While Maxon has become a police officer and cleaned up his act, there are still remnants of the broken boy that leaned on Izzy during the times when he needed strength. This homecoming will rattle Maxon deep within his heart. Forcing Maxon to face the past, the future, and the consequences of a life that was once left behind.
Pieces of Us is the latest installment in the Confessions of the Heart series by AL Jackson. The plot centers around Izzy and Maxon, two very broken souls that have quite the history together. Maxon grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, living a lifestyle that was hard to overcome. Through it all, Izzy was the light at the end of the tunnel. After a series of circumstances led Maxon to realize he was endangering Izzy by being a part of her life, Maxon decided setting his ‘Little Bird’ free was the only answer. What Maxon did not realize was just how much this romance would shape the future for both of these tortured souls.
The dynamic between Izzy and Maxon is very realistic and easy to imagine. Both are looking towards a future, but their pasts will have to be exposed along the way. This second chance at love will draw you deeper into the love story of two well rounded characters. While I loved these characters, I also found the secondary characters breathed so much life into this story. A wonderful addition that further strengthened a plot that will keep you rooting for the future.
I can never shield my poor heart when A.L.Jackson strikes with her insanely emotional stories. Pieces of Us was exactly same.I want to drown in the sorrow and heartbreak. I want to revel in the glory of the epic “endless” love. I want to just sit in a corner and wait for the feelings to leave my body.
Men like Mack should be banned from existing because my heart and panties were a lost cause from the first chapter. He is beautifully broken. He has given his every thing to Izzy Lane and yet he doesn’t feel it’s enough. He is strong, brave, honourable and sometimes a complete idiot blinded by his past. I wanted to hug him, to console him and shake him to go for his love. And Izzy is his perfect soulmate. So selfless, so beautiful inside out, so compassionate, so resilient. I have complete respect for her. Probably the best couple A.L.Jackson has ever written about. The heartbreaking turns were too much to bear!
The words of A.L.Jackson bleed emotions. Her writing is so poetic, expressive and intense. She pulls out some extreme reactions from me. She made me cry all through the books. She filled the story with drama, angst, heartache and sweet emotions. My heart was heavy for Mac and Izzy. At the same time I never felt lighter with all the hope and inspirations.
Pieces of Us broke me and put me together in the overwhelming way only A.L.Jackson can do. The emotions are overflowing. The exquisite feelings took my breath away. This is a book about living, loving and forgiving that you absolutely cannot miss. A top read of 2019.
Received ARC for Honest Review
Once again AL Jackson has proven why she is a one click for me. If you love second chances than Pieces of Us is the book for us. From the first time Mack and Izzy ran into each other you knew there chemistry was going to be amazing.
What an absolutely phenomenal read from AL Jackson!
I completely fell in love with this second-chance story. Right from the very first page, I was hooked, both by the plot line, and the characters. Every single character in this novel, including the minor characters were so intriguing to read about. The main characters, in particular Maxon, undergoes so many changes, and revelations within the course of the story, that you can’t help but want to know every single thing about him. He has a way of captivating attention, and making sure that you know exactly what you are supposed to be feeling.
I have read and loved every single novel from AL Jackson, and this novel was no exception. I loved this novel so much, I would be willing to say that it is one of my all time favourite reads from AL Jackson. With each and every novel, her characters become more intriguing, and more captivating. Her writing contains so much depth and evolution, that will leave readers hanging on to every word right up to the last page.
If I could give this novel a million stars I would. It has instantly become my favourite read of the year. I guarantee, in December, it will be on my all time-favourite reads. Everyone needs to pick up this book for themselves today.
5/5 Stars!
Lyrical and emotionally intense, AL Jackson delivers another love story that will take your heart hostage!
Pieces of Us by AL Jackson is here! Ms. Jackson never disappoints. We all need some Maxon & Izzy in our lives…
Everytime I know Amy is in the process of developing a new book or series I am like a kid on Christmas morning waiting to open presents. I am giddy with excitement and know whatever she creates will be nothing short of incredible. Pieces of Us, Book #3 in her latest series, Confessions of the Heart is no exception. In fact, it might have to become the rule…I stayed up till the wee hours of the morning consuming every page of this captivating story. The cast of characters of this dynamic story are unbelievable. Jackson is a pro at creating beautifully broken alpha males like no other, and Maxon is EVERYTHING! Strong, bold, damaged, kind, protective to a fault, and with a profession and past that have made him think he will always be alone. Izzy is a divorced, single mom who moves back to her home town to start over with her 2 boys. She is beautiful, smart, talented and struggling to build her life and dreams while caring for her family. The last thing she is looking for or wants to to find love again…but fate and second chances just might have something else to say about that…The fireworks between Izzy and Max are blinding. And then there is Dillon and Ben, the 2 boys who own Izzy’s heart and will yours too after you meet them. Jackson develops child characters so well it feels like they will be forever a part of your soul. I laughed out loud, got swept away and cried big ugly tears in this masterpiece, it has ALL.THE.FEELS…My heart will never be the same!
Can only eagerly await for what comes next Amy…
This was a good read. Every time I read this author I’m put through the ringer. This book wasn’t any different. My heart hurt, it sang, and it skipped a few beats.
I think she nailed all the spots..Mack and Izzy’s story is a second chance, my fav kind of romance, and, as always, the characters are amazing, all of them. Secondary characters included.
This author is amazing in mixing heavy and light, just the right mix to keep you right there with the characters.
I live broken characters and Mack fits the bill, and I love how this author can give you so many feels you don’t know what to do with yourself.
This Mack wasn’t the one I had imagined from the other books, but I was glad he faced his ghosts and found happiness. It was a great ending to the series!
Definitely my favorite of this series! Mack!!!! Maxon has a tortured soul which makes him so sexy, absolutely swoon worthy and extremely ALPHA! When his first and only love Izzy returns, he decides they’re worth it! Twist and turns pave their journey and keeps you hooked from beginning to end. A must read!

Oh. My. Goshhhhh!!! This story gave me ALL. THE. FEELS. Pieces of Us by AL Jackson is the third book in the Confessions of the Heart series and all I can say at the moment is WOW. Ms. Jackson wrote a story so full of love and grief that I felt it all the way down to my bones. My heart ached and tears would not stop falling. But with that being said, it also was full of hope and perseverance and it was so so beautiful.
“Who knows what love is if he hasn’t experienced grief?”
Meeting as children, Izzy and Mack developed such a strong bond from the beginning. Coming from different families, Mack knew that he could never keep her. But Izzy…Izzy knew in her heart that they were always meant to be. One decision changed everything. It changed the course of their lives. Will forgiveness be enough to mend two broken hearts…
“But whose joy is forgotten is lost.” Emotion rushed, warmth pressing full as I murmured, “And whose heart is free is found.”
Izzy and Mack stole my heart. Izzy’s strength was admirable and so was her determination. And Mack-he was so broken that my heart hurt for him. Together they were magic. I loved this book so much. It was beautifully written and flowed well. I cannot wait to see what Ms. Jackson comes up with next! Highly recommend reading Pieces of Us!
Jackson know show to write a second chance romance filled with heat, heartbreak, and tension. Mack has spent his adult life trying to right the wrongs of his childhood and his father’s criminal deeds. Now a cop and determined to be a pillar of morality. Mack never expected the catalyst for his turn to the light side to show back up to town. Izzy was the love of his life, and his father threatened her enough for Mack to let her go and save her from the evil that was his family. Back in town, she sparks all those teenage and hormonal emotions he’d buried deep beneath his badge. And when his past comes back to threaten her once more, Mack has to make his choice once more: protect her by loving or leaving her.
Mack is such an interesting character/hero for Jackson. Where most of her heroes have seemed to be gruff and rough, Mack has a total sweet side to him. And when Izzy’s two children enter his life, Mack Daddy truly comes to life. I think this is a man who was always meant to have a family; he was just dealt a bad one originally. A true protector and not one to shy away from saving anyone, Mack is the lightness that came from the shadows of his past. It’s going to take a lot for him to accept that Izzy always saw the hero in him when all he saw was his father.
Izzy is even a new style, I feel, for Jackson. Lacking zero strength compared to her other heroines. But there’s a sense of immediately knowing right and wrong within the hero that Izzy possesses that made me love her so much. Despite Mack breaking her heart (and her not truly knowing just why), she knows that he is a good man. She takes his second chance to win her over in stride and works to help him see the good in himself he cannot find. This romance isn’t just about tow people finding their way back to one another, its about building up Mack versus the heroine which seems more common in romances. Add in the touch of drama from Mack’s past threatening everything they build throughout the novel and its a seat grabbing ending. Fantastic job from Amy!
Better have your tissue box handy for this one. There were so many moments for me in this. First, I am a sucker for second chance. And this one is why. We all have made mistakes. We all wish we could get a redo. And unless you have a time machine, those mistakes can never be undone. BUT. Every once in awhile, a chance to right those wrongs comes along. Every once in awhile, those who were hurt worst by those mistakes, take a chance too. Forgiveness is not given. Forgiveness is earned. Most times we need to find that forgiveness in ourselves first. And that is the hardest part. To feel that we have earned the chance at a second chance.
Heartbreak. Happiness. Forgiveness. Love. You will find it all between these pages. One thing I Love about A L Jackson’s writing, she brings the pages to life. The reader feels what the characters do. The characters come to life. The characters remind us who we are and why we are here.

Finally here is the story of Maxon, a character who has always appeared in the previous books of the series as the best friend of the characters. There we knew a little of him and his loyalty to these characters, but I knew that there was much more of him than was shown and that just as Jace and Ian, Maxom had a difficult past is a little dark. Here the author once again delivers a great story of those who have a little bit of everything: have drama, second chance romance a suspense to make the story intriguing to the last pages.
Maxon and Izzy’s have a past together. Both were passionate about each other despite coming from opposite sides of the city, until the day Maxon did something that drove Izzy’s away without looking back, but now so many years later both are face to face again and it is clear that the feelings that one day they had one for the other are still there, but Izzy’s already been hurt once and does not want that to happen again.
Both Maxon and Izzy’s are charismatic characters and although I liked her more than him in this book, it is possible to see and believe that these two still love each other. I liked Maxon, do not get me wrong, but honestly I can not find acceptable the attitudes he had there in the past, I have to blame adolescence and insecurities of the age for their attitudes. But the Maxon now I love, it was impossible to see him fighting for Izzy’s love. And Izzy’s was a character I admired for everything she went through, and for her love for her two lovely children. She is one of those strong, determined heroines who won my admiration for her dedication to her son.
Maybe this book came very close to home to me and seeing izzy and his son I see my mother and myself. As someone who was born with the same problem of Izzy (with infinitely smaller sequels), when reading the scenes of both passes a movie through my head of everything I went through because of this and I think the author about perfectly reporting the reality of the situation, fears, insecurities, but also hope. And for this reason I can not help but love Izzy and his son and admire them.
Pieces of us is the third book in the series Confessions of the Heart and is my favorite in this series. A book with my favorite type of story: Second chances, and it was good to see these characters get their happy ones forever.
4.5 stars for – Pieces of Us – book three in the Confessions of the Heart series by A.L. Jackson. This book can be read as a complete standalone but the entire series is truly fantastic and I highly recommend reading them all. Once again we are back in Broadshire Rim where three boys who had to raise themselves turned out to be the best kind of men. A second chance love story full of all the feels and all the angst with all the sexy steam too…yes please!
Izzy is back in town from out of state for her son. She is living in the house she grew up in with all the memories of her childhood. Those memories include the man who stole her hear and then broke it. Izzy knew having to see him again wasn’t going to be easy but did he have to look so incredible too?
Mack is the perfect bachelor, hooking up when he feels like it and making no promises but that all changes when the woman from his past shows back up in town. A girl he fell in love with so long ago and never once forgot about still holds his heart. Time and distance changed nothing for Mack but so many secrets and years of not feeling worthy are just a small piece of the puzzle he will have to solve to make things work.
