I am a member of the Slaughter Squad and this book is FANTASTIC!
The only thing predictable about a Karin Slaughter book is that it will be UNpredictable. Lots of twist and turns. Every time I’d think I had it figured out, it would do something else. I loved, loved, LOVED it!
This book was a bit hard to follow for me, I didn’t care for it as much as I did for her Good daughter book which I loved. It didn’t seem like it flowed, the sections didn’t seem to match up well.
Wow. Wow, wow, wow.
It’s a little different theme than most of her books, but I really enjoyed it. The way she unraveled the plot was very interesting, using who would technically be a secondary character to essentially reveal the story of the main character. Incredible writing, incredible characters, just plain incredible.
100% recommend!
Weird story!!! It reminds me of those stories that come out every few years or so of some leftover hippie or some refugee from the 60’s, who after 50 or so years of hiding out and living totally normal lives after disappearing and running from the feds because of some crime (usually murder). In this story, they were radical, anarchist, Stanford students from the 80’s rebelling against “evil corporations”.
Anyway, I enjoyed it but just found it weird.
I did not think this book was nearly as good as the author’s earlier novels. It became predictable and tiresome, and I did not care for the main character.
Slow to get back he plot going! Interesting once you get into it
I absolutely love her writing, which is why I bought this book. But I stopped reading it at about 200 pages in because I was so disappointed. This book was a real let down compared to her usual excellent writing.
You get used to reading “free”, self-published books then read a book by a true, skillful writer, like Karin Slaughter, and understand why some books are free. This book, as most/all of her books, combines believable characters with great plots and just plain masterful use of real writing skill. She makes it hard to go back to the 99-centers.
I will always buy anything Karin Slaughter writes. She never disappoints.
Another excellent book by Karin Slaughter. Back and forth, present to past trying to find out the truth about her mother. A must read!
I always enjoy Karin Slaughter.
I enjoyed the book immensely! At first, I didn’t know if I was going to like, but then it was a page-turner for me. I grew up in the 60’s and early 70’s. I definitely recommend!
Just when you think you have the characters pegged, you get a surprise.
Like many other reviewers, I have read all of Karin Slaughter’s other books and considered her a highly reliable good read. Then came this abomination.
I cannot think of a book where I have loathed a main character as much as I did Andrea. I was waiting to find out what mental or emotional illness she suffered from that resulted in such off-the-chart immaturity. Then I decided I just didn’t care. The plot wan’t doing anything for me either so I gave up less than 25% of the way through the book.
If you have never read Karin Slaughter, by all means pick up any of her earlier books. But stay away from this.
This is a case of I should have read the reviews prior to purchasing. Everything from the book’s premise to its characters fell flat, especially the protagonist a 31 year old child who acted like a 20 year old. Part of the issue with the book is that there were two stories being told at once, and while the secondary story — the murder of a prominent financier began with promise, the initially interesting female (Jinx) was engaged to someone so primitive that it completely diminished any desire to believe in this portion of the book and to see how the stories link. This could be my last Karin Slaughter book if she does not pick up her game.
I didn’t like this so well. Not what I expected from a Karin Slaughter story…
I did finish reading. I am glad I waited for some time for a hold at local library. I have enjoyed all her recent books, from the beginning, just not this one.
Loved it
