Marble isn’t the only thing that’s hard at this museum. His body is as chiseled as Adonis. His lips are as sculpted as David. And his ego is the size of the Guggenheim. You know the type—wolfish smile and the gravity of a black hole. The kind of man who sucks all the air from the room the second he enters it. My cocky boss thinks this internship was wasted on me, and he doesn’t hesitate to let me … hesitate to let me know.
But he’s wrong, and I’m going to prove it to him. If I can stay away from his devil lips, that is. Lips that cut me down and kiss me in the same breath, leaving me certain he’s on a mission to ruin my life.
And maybe my heart, too.

I loved this so much. It was super funny, and angstier than I was expecting, which is always a good thing.
Rin was an amazing main character. Minus the huge makeover, I identified with her a lot. I get a lot of the insecurities she felt and I loved her transformation and ending confidence.
I love LOVE an arrogant hero. It’s sometimes not a great quality, but it’s so fun to read, and Court was perfect. They fit so well together. I’m so glad I got to read this!
This was a kind of in depth story. Meaning that a lot of time and effort must have been put in the subject which is art. I know nothing about the subject and I found my self reading quickly during those scenes. The characters though more then made up for it. Rin was a shy, awkward and very tall woman who wanted to go unnoticed. As the story progresses I saw a change in that characters . More confident.
A storyline and plot that was quite interesting. Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA.
3.5 stars
“The only thing wrong with wanting more is being too afraid to go after it.”
Piece of Work is something special. The way this story works and finds its way to your heart is not comparable to anything I’ve read lately.
“But that was the funny thing about hearts. What they wanted and what would hurt them were sometimes the same. And in the battle of head over heart, I had always sided with my head.”
Staci was able to create some raw and real characters. Like she picked someone out from the streets, someone like you and me and put them right into her story.
Rin is a fantastic heroine. The way she discovers herself, how to trust herself and how to be the strong girl she hid inside is inspiring. All life long she wanted to hide, to be invisible to everyone other than her close friends. Just because her looks don’t comply with the social norm. But once the spark ignited her fire there was no way to stop her development. Rin is not a quitter, she’s a fighter and she wins.
“I was an instrument for her pleasure, a voyeur of her indulgence, a witness to her desire.”
Sadly I had some trouble to connect with Court. I just couldn’t grab him. And his connection to Rin, the attraction and chemistry, I didn’t feel it. It was interesting to read, but it just didn’t touch me.
What did touch me though, was the friendship between Rin and her girls. This kind of friendship is what every girl is looking for. The support they gave each other is inspirational.
“He was like a toasty marshmallow – charred and crispy on the outside, warm, gooey mush on the inside.”
Piece of Work is an intelligent, inspiring and beautiful story about finding your self-worth and love. Staci showed off again her brilliant writing skills that make this story so unique.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
There is just something about a Staci Hart rom/com that just makes me so happy. The smart humor, hilarious banter, hot sexual tension, this book has all the things I love in a rom/com in spades.
I love books where the heroine finds her voice and strength. Rin’s story is one that soooo many will relate to. She has insecurities and quirks that made her lovable, but moreover, she had the courage to come out of her comfort zone and show everyone what she was made of.
What can I say about Court. This d-bag with a heart of gold was so self assured and confident, and it made it really easy to love him. I got a total kick out of this guy who was so bold and dominating in so many ways, get completely rattled by Rin.
As always, the chemistry Hart creates was great. The attraction and back and forth between Rin and Court made for some great sexual tension. Build up to that first kiss is key for me, and this one was just, ahhh so good.
This book is one that is a delight to read. It’s got it all, charming characters, swoony moments, lol scenes and most of all that signature Hart style that I know and love so much.
4.5 stars. Wow! I absolutely loved the esteemed MET as the backdrop along with art and art history. I was geeking hard! This is a difficult review for me. I will start out with how wonderfully this author created and developed the characters. I loved the unusual, smart, statuesque heroine in Rin. She is fabulous in her blossoming into a beautiful woman. And then there is Court. What a gorgeous, imposing Alpha! His growth from stern and cruel to warm and hunky was drool worthy. And the sex scenes were so hot and panty melting and just delicious. That’s the way to write a sexy scene! And the other characters were terrific. I absolutely loved the roommates and hope each gets their own story. They were so funny, quirky, supportive and each with their own distinct personality. There were a few things that didn’t sync with the rest of the story for me. The way the David was secured was unwhelming along with Court’s 180. The ending seems wordy and rushed with a lot of internal dialogue. I think this amazing story and characters deserved more. Overall I still loved it and will add it to my ‘read again’ list. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
Can I get an Amen for Court and most of all for RIN?????
Court is just like the statue of David that he loves. Cold, hard, distant with a fantabulous ass. He’s also Rin unfeeling jerk of a boss. Hid disapproving glares and taunt jaw make her want to prove herself more and more. But she’s too intimidated to speak up until she is blessed with the powers of a red lipstick.
Now, Court aims all his wolfish smiles at her and dare she say flirts with her. Maybe he’s on a mission to make her life hell. Maybe she’ll absolutely love it.
I think I lost important functioning brain cells while reading because of one Court. I freaking love assholes who can’t make up their mind or deal with their overwhelming feelings and COURT WAS THE BEST OF THEM ALL. God how I love him! I just want to hug this stupid giant teddy bear and give him all the love in the World. Also, his growly alpha side made me swoon so damn hard.
Rin, my beautiful sweet summer child! I loved loved loved her transformation. I cannot tell you how proud I am to have read a book which shows such amazing growth with incredible feminist characters. I AM LOVE!! Rin’s character and growth is why I love to read about strong female characters. She took back her power and made life her bitch. And the fact that she has equally badass friends just made me love this story more.
Rin and Court’s chemistry was off the charts hawt. *insert multiple flame emojis* From their first kiss to when they confess their love, I just wanted to cry at how perfect these two were and protect them from this cruel World.
Dudes, set aside your life and read this book. Staci’s stories always make my heart work overtime. She always makes me want more. And, I just want to keep reading Piece Of Work again and again till I can recite it by heart.
Guys, I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love Staci Hart’s books. If I wasn’t already a fan before, I’m completely hooked on her writing. Her characters are relatable and Staci’s heroines are the best. And Rin, I believe she’s my spirit animal. I loved her so much, her insecurities were real, something all of us lovely ladies can relate to. We all have ours and I loved seeing her overcome them throughout this book. And partner Rin with the rather sinful hero who has insecurities of his own. It just makes for an amazing story of not only love between the both of them but self-love. Piece of Work has been easily added to my #RSFaves for the year; love love love!
Where do I even begin? Rin … loved her so much, I truly want her as my best friend. More than anything, I loved watching her grow. Her friends are seriously f*ckin amazing and they’re ones that you’d always want in your corner. Rin is on the shy side, but to me, it was a bit of a front because her inner dialogue had so much to stay and I KNEW she was more than capable of saying them, she just needed that extra little push. And she got plenty of that from her bosses at her internship. She’s feisty and definitely someone you don’t want on your bad side. The more you push, she’ll push the hell back! My kind of girl if you ask me. And her love of packaged snacks and hip-hop, I say again, my kind of girl!
Court … the ever complicated hero that was completely done as soon as he set his eyes on Rin. A man who has been terribly burned by the two people who should have always been on his side; his father and now ex. I totally understand his lack of trust in people, but he definitely held onto that like a clutch but don’t they ever, which made him every bit of an a**hole. Especially to someone who didn’t even deserve it, Rin. I love that she constantly called him out on his BS and I think he definitely brought out that side of her to speak her mind when it was absolutely necessary. As much as I loved Court and his sexy-sinful ways, he needed to be put in his place. But these two together are all passion and fire, they’re so hot together. They both seem to lose their inability to think when they’re together, but the heart what it wants. There’s no fighting that.
Okay, now I have to talk about Rin’s best friends! I wish I had friends like that, they’re honestly the best. I loved how supportive they were of Rin and help pushed her past her boundaries. Red Lipstick Coalition. The truth about lipstick,
“we just have to be brave enough to wear it.”
But seriously, I loved that they constantly pushed her up and never brought her down. The definition of what we should be doing for each other in the first place. Grab your lipstick ladies and wear the sh*t out of it. There’s nothing sexier than pushing yourself past boundaries and wearing it with pride. Own it, you got this. And that’s exactly what Rin did, she was still the same person, but her self-confidence was blooming. And please tell me they get their own books!
Before I ended this review, just wanted to touch on what goes through curating a museum. I had no idea about how it works and now it just makes more curious than ever. With the chance to live in Europe, we’ve been soaking up visiting all the amazing museums, now I’ll be wondering about all the exhibits and how it came to be. And is there really that much drama when it comes to curating? I need to know more!
Staci, thank you so much for giving us a character that we don’t always see too often in the romance genre. Or at least, ones I haven’t come across until recently. There are powerful women of all race and ages and this year, I’ve seen them more in my beloved romance genre. With everything that’s been going on in the world today, Piece of Work sent a beautiful message to women. I can honestly say that it inspired and empowered me. Love yourself, you’re beautiful inside and out.
Ladies, be ready to feel empowered as you read Piece of Work. Staci, as I’ve said countless times before, I’m forever a fan!
HIGHLY RECCOMEND.Staci Hart
Staci’s books just amaze me, how she can come up with the stories she writes with such heart.
Piece of Work brings you into the world of art and it makes you feel like you are at the Met.
This is the story of Rin and Court. Rin is one of a kind, I really enjoyed the fact that Staci didn’t make her the “stereotypical” heroine, you know blonde hair, blue eyes and a petite 5’2″. Staci made Rin the complete opposite and I applaud her for it!
Court was a grade A a$$hole! I really wanted to smack him when we are introduced to him, he was selfish and he kept blaming Rin for his feelings “What has she done to me?” The more I read and realized the betrayal he endured, it helped me come around. When I saw the man he became when he was with Ren on the museum trip (not gonna say where, you have to read to find out) I fell in love with him too.
The chemistry between Court and Rin is explosive and dynamic. I loved that Rin tried to stick to her principles and give Court the business when he deserved it. I enjoyed reading about Court coming full circle with his feelings towards Rin.
The secondary characters, especially the “Red Lipstick Coalition”, are absolutely phenomenal and I hope and pray that Staci gives more to them. I would love to see books for every other member!
Staci has created another MUST READ masterpiece! I have enjoyed this so much and it’s made me want to go visit a museum and appreciate art just a little bit more.
Piece of Work is a transformative, heartfelt love story about the importance of loving and accepting yourself.
Seeing Rin develop from being shy, and craving invisibility, to accepting herself and finding that vital confidence that stops people from wanting to hide away, was actually really inspiring. People often say that the right clothes, hair and make up don’t matter, and of course it’s true that it’s more important what kind of a person you are. However, gaining confidence in your physical appearance is not something to be belittled, it’s not shameful and it’s not anti feminist to care about your appearance. Whatever makes you feel good, doing whatever you want to do for you, is the most feminist thing possible, and there’s never any shame in that. Staci really explores this through Rin and it’s such an important equality message that she teaches us.
Rin is a massive geek, she’s super intelligent, super dorky, clumsy as hell, and she also shows that there’s nothing wrong with being these things, that being quiet is okay, as long as you have that confidence in yourself. It’s honestly incredible seeing her develop from shy, and outright trying to be invisible, to gaining a quiet confidence.
And Court. Oh my. Court is sexy, with that perfect amount of brooding intensity, alpha tendencies, and imperfectly flawed assholery. He’s the ultimate bad boy in a suit with a poetic, artistic edge. I just can’t even. I’m not sure if actual words exist for how addicted I am to all things Court.
Art and culture is beautifully explored in this absolute masterpiece from one of my all time favourite authors. Staci Hart never disappoints but Piece of Work takes us to a whole new level of inspired, unique, and lyrical writing. I felt as if I was actually transported to New York, to the Met, and then to Florence, experiencing every emotion right along with Court and Rin. You NEED to read this passionate love story like RIGHT FREAKING NOW.
I love how Staci Hart manages to combine angst, humor and intriguing characters in one amazingly written package. Piece of Work is such a fun and emotional read, this is Staci Hart at her finest.
Rin is now one of my favorite heroines. She was shy, quirky, kind of awkward and incredibly determined to prove her infuriatingly handsome boss wrong. He is convinced that an internship at the MET is wasted on her, but there is no way she is letting that thought stand. She can prove him wrong. She WILL prove him wrong. She just has to avoid the temptation that is Court Lyons’ kissable lips and ridiculous hotness. How hard can that be?
Court Lyons’ is too handsome, too put together, too cocky and way too hard to resist. He also has a heartbreaking past and is absolutely perfect for someone like Rin. I just adored these two together. Their romance has all of the feels, all of the humor and all of the sexiness Staci Hart manages so well. It’s not easy balancing large helpings of angst and humor, but Hart excels at it.
Piece of Work is an art lovers tease but you don’t have to be on the doctorate track to enjoy it. It’s a cute story about the perceived ugly duckling and her own personal Beast (as in Beauty and the Beast).
It’s an office romance. An intern and her boss. Nice and the naughty.
I was kind of let down by this one; I have to say. Staci Hart is a powerhouse and I felt like this one isn’t up to her usual. I appreciate the incredible amount of research she must have done for this project but I feel like the core of the story didn’t project her abilities. I wasn’t pulled into the story. It wasn’t enough to take over my existence and that is the opposite of my experiences reading her books.
Piece of Work is fun. It’s cute and it won’t make you cry- some times we need the warning. I am interested in knowing what the rest of the Lipstick chicks get into…
