Phoenix is my favorite of the Steele brothers. Recovering from a gun shot to the head, he is pushed into therapy. Rose is a complex woman with a past of her own. The chemistry between the two is combustible. The development of their relationship is perfectly paced. The growth in both characters is realistic and relatable.
The mystery is full of suspense and twists. I really thought I had it figured out. I was so wrong! The danger to Rose brings out the alpha in Phoenix and becomes part of his journey of healing.
This is definitely a stand alone book. Previous characters do make appearances. But the book focuses on these characters, which I love. If you haven’t read the Steele Brothers Security books you may be a little confused about Phoenix’s injury however. How he was shot is never mentioned in this story.
Now I am anxiously awaiting Jaggers book. It’s up next and it sounds intense.
I’ll tell you what. This author knows how to write well written, high intensity, heart pounding, loads of mystery, emotional, hot and steamy sex, and just give me a heart attack now books. The Steele Brothers Security series is an incredible read, but Phoenix’s story just puts the icing on the cake. There’s something about a strong willed, sexy, ex marine that’s taken to his knees over a devastating injury and a beautiful woman who just happens to be his therapist, and a match in stubbornness and independence. I loved the chemistry between these two characters, adored Spirit, she couldn’t have been a better close companion for Phoenix during his challenges. The Steele brothers are front and center, which makes this book even better. This is a series that will definitely have a spot on my bookshelf, definitely worth the read! Can’t wait for Jagg’s story!!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
Phoenix is one panic attack away from losing it. His brothers and colleagues are walking on eggshells, waiting for him to inevitably lose the tiny grip on his monstrous temper. He’s had to step down from running their company as he can’t be trusted. That damn known on the head is taking away his independence – they won’t even let him drive! Now he needs to see a headshrinker before they let him even attempt to get back on the road and, more importantly it seems, get his concealed carry licence back.
Dr Rose Floris, therapist and holder of a secret or two herself. Her childhood was not made of rainbows and sunshine. She has pulled herself into the life she wants. She may appear poised, polished in her designer-clad armour. But she may be about to face her biggest test yet – Phoenix Steele. Not just a brash playboy with an injured pride but a man who is slowly losing his identity as his brain injury saps his independence. Doesn’t stop him from being a prize ass to Rose though!
Between a nasty animal hunter and a chilling stalker who appear to have Rose in his sights, Phoenix is going to have to pull all the frayed strands of himself together to save the girl!
Phoenix can be a total ass but he does have endearing qualities too. When he can’t SAY sorry he can definitely SHOW it. Yes he uses money more often than not, but he can be sweet too. Phoenix most assuredly knows how to make Rose leave all her boundaries and crash through whatever ones she has left. He could have imploded her professional life with his rampant disregard for the rules of therapy LOL
Even fresh out of a coma after being shot in the head, Phoenix is HOT!
He’s full of rage and frustration at his loss of memory and motor skills. He’s vehemently resistant to physical and emotional therapy … till he lays eyes on the beautiful, buttoned-up, control-freak therapist, Dr. Rose Floris. Phoenix knows how to turn the heat up to steam-level in a hurry. All the Steele brothers are sex on a stick, and they always have what it takes to save their damsels when danger threatens. The Steele Security series is the best: hotness running through well-laid plots that keep your heart beating fast till the final page. Buckle up when you sit down with one of these books — it’s gonna be a wild ride!
I am sooo glad for more Steele Shadows Security! I absolutely live this series and was excited for Feen’s story. He sure has met his match with Rose! They have such explosive chemistry! I loved it!
Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, Phoenix Steele is being subjected to restrictions, emotions and so much more than he thought possible. Of course, he’s lucky to be alive and walking according to others. Recovering from a TBI, Traumatic Brain Injury, after being shot in the head, Phoenix finally agrees to see a Psychologist, Dr. Rose Floris. As Rose “Flower”, (Phoenix’s name for his doctor) and he each find their footing in the doctor/patient roles, they are called upon to open up to themselves and each other. Now add to that stalking, murder, Ozark Monsoons, and dead chickens there is plenty of drama, mystery, fear, rivalry, and a budding romance. I found this book became my favorite out of the Steele Shadows Security/Rising series. It pulled me in and made me care about the characters, not just enticing me to read and solve the story before it ended. Amanda McKinney knows how to create a plot, subplots, weave it together with life-like characters. and her words to create a story that you will long remember after you finish reading it. I highly recommend this book along with the Cabin Series and Berrry Springs books. I received an ARC from the author in return for my honest review and now you have it.
