What a wonderful read. Suspenseful, Action packed and Romantic. Just what this reader loves. Plus the author gave us a storyline that at one time almost everyone of us in the real world have come face to face with. When life altering decisions must be made, do we think with our heart or think with our brain. Do we step off the edge and take a leap of faith or do we shy away and handle things on our own. Do we hate the world through sunglasses or do we take all the beauty we can get from everything around us. Oh this book isn’t quite as serious as all that sounds but it’s an amazing read about a couple having to make life altering decisions about not on their own lives as well as the life of the one they love.
The author has given us wonderful characters in this series. If you’ve read the series to date you will be happy to know all the men of Linear Tactical are front and center as well as their ladies. This is Boy Riley and Girl Riley’s story and boy is it a dandy. Hard core sports and field training are at the forefront which of course you would expect with Super Thrill Sports seeker, Boy Riley along with some life saving events that you would expect from the Linear Tactical guys. I loved it from start to finish.
Kudos to Ms. Crouch for a job well done and I can’t wait to see what’s in store next for the Linear Tactical family. 2 Stars Up and 5 Stars.
This is the 8th book in this series and is “boy” Riley and “girl” Riley as they are known to their friends’ story. Boy Riley is an undercover operative and Girl Riley is a nurse. No spoilers: this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed. This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster journey throughput, as well as heart-breaking and filled with suspense, twists, and love. I was intrigued and hooked throughout this riveting tale and highly recommend for all.
PHOENIX is the eighth instalment in Janie Crouch’s contemporary, adult LINEAR TACTICAL romantic suspense series focusing on a group of former Special Forces soldiers who own and operate Linear Tactical, an Oak Creek, Wyoming business specializing in survival skills, security and protection. This is extreme sports athlete and Linear Tactical undercover operative Riley ‘Phoenix’ Harrison, and nurse Riley ‘Wildfire’ Wilde’s story line. PHOENIX can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalment is revealed where necessary. And YES, both of the characters’ names are Riley, so to avoid further confusion, like the characters in the book, our heroine will be called ‘girl Riley’, and our hero ‘boy Riley’.
Told from dual third person perspectives ( Riley and Riley) PHOENIX follows extreme sports athlete and Linear Tactical undercover operative Riley ‘Phoenix’ Harrison, several days after a successful rescue by the team in the Egypt. With the Linear Tactical extreme WAR games about to commence boy Riley is dumbfounded when the woman he has loved for close to 3 years breaks it off without a reason or why but boy Riley isn’t willing to give up without a fight, and with girl Riley’s job as part of the medical personnel team, boy Riley is determined to find out the truth, and prove he is worthy of her love. Meanwhile, girl Riley struggles with some personal news of her own and refuses to allow boy Riley to suffer along side. Hoping to push boy Riley out of her life, girl Riley keeps secret the truth until events at the WAR games prove that someone is out to destroy his life. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Phoenix and Wildfire, and the potential fall-out as boy-Riley becomes the target in a dangerous game of betrayal and revenge.
Riley Wilde does not want to complicate Phoenix’s life any more than it already has, and by walking away, she believes, is the better alternative than path on which she is currently headed. Keeping her secret means hurting Phoenix further, especially when someone is determined to take down our story line hero. Riley ‘Phoenix’ Harrison fell in love with Wildfire within days of their first meeting, and currently struggles with girl Riley’s rejection especially in light of their love for one another.
The relationship between the two Riley’s is one of second chances; a rekindling romance between two people whose lives are spiralling out of control. From girl Riley’s secrets, to the person attempting to destroy their lives, our couple are in for an uphill battle, a battle that will become more dangerous when Phoenix’s past demands vengeance and payment. The $ex scenes are hard and fast.
There is a large ensemble cast of energetic secondary and supporting characters including several members of the Linear Tactical team including Zac & Annie (Cyclone #1), Gabriel Collingwood (Angel #4) ,Peyton and Cade (Echo #7), Finn’s brother ‘Baby’ Bollinger, Wyatt Highfield, and Gavin Zimmerman; extreme sports athletes Damon Sullivan, Gunnar ‘Iceland’ Jefferson, Bo Gonzales and Amber Lowe; and Egyptian billionaire Sayed El Kadi. Baby Bollinger’s story line is next in BABY.
PHOENIX is a story of family and friendships; secrets and lies; betrayal, revenge, power and control. The premise is captivating and engaging; the romance struggles in the face of secrets and timing; the characters are colorful, charismatic and spirited. PHOENIX is a heart warming and encouraging story of strength and acceptance.
Phoenix is the eighth title in the Linear Tactical series. I’ve enjoyed each title I’ve had the opportunity to read in this series. The action, intrigue and suspense has me coming back for more, but this title is a little bit different. The focus on this title is the relationship between Riley Harrison and Riley Wilde.
The Riley’s story is emotional and both heartwarming and heartbreaking at times. When Riley Wilde (Wildfire) gets some unexpected and life changing news she ends attempts to end her three-year relationship with Riley Harrison (Phoenix) a famous adventurer and extreme sports athlete. He loves with his whole heart, and is used to a challenge, and when he wants something, he isn’t afraid to go after it. With persistence, determination and drive, he’s determined to prove to Wildfire that love will win out.
I loved the cameo appearances of previous characters and was captivated from start to finish with this well written and captivating tale. I highly recommend the Linear Tactical series to anyone who loves an interconnected romantic suspense series.
Boy if it is not one thing it is another. MS is bad on the even on the worst day of your life. Then to add MS on top of it is even more bad. Turmoil from learning just about that could be debilitating. Then to try and figure out how to accept then learn to live with it can be time consuming. All of that is a little bit of what Girl Riley is going through. She also has to think about work and how she will manage later if or when she gets worse. he had to tell Boy Riley also, so now he will have to go through and think things through.
This story exciting and heart breaking at the same time. The courage Girl Riley shows, trying to save Boy Riley everything she is going through is something else. To me it shows women have a courageous side too. I love this story and all the rest from this author, they just keep getting better and better. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This book was just so good! Phoenix and Riley’s story is one that will keep you on the edge of your seat while also putting your heart through a wringer. I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping read and its complex blend of action, excitement, drama, deep emotions, mystery and steam. Both characters were very likable and they made a couple that was easy to root for and be invested in. In total I thought that this was a simply terrific read.
Terrific-a solid 5 star read!! The strength and determination of the characters in this series marvels all others. To be able to write like this with all the elements of a romance and a heart pounding suspense is a gift that Janie Crouch shares without holding back. This book has all the right moves in making this another amazing story about respect, loyalty, family and love while giving you a rush.
Boy Riley aka Phoenix and Girl Riley seem to have it all until, something very unexpected and unpredictable happens. The love that just pours out of Phoenix for Riley is incredible and sweet. His devotation knows no bounds. This is a definite must read for all the adrenline junkies and romance enthusiasts out there.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Really a great instalment, we get a lot of action, the romance but also we focus on characters feelings, their fears, their hopes so we get deeper into their psyche and for both Riley it was something more than interesting. then we also get to see the other linear tactical members so it’s simply the perfect mix.
The tension is high, the rhythm is fast as the WAR competition isn’t to be taken lightly but the missions on the side are more dangerous and with a tight timing. As a result we get immersed into the story immediately and we can’t stop before the last page even if in my case i guessed the culprit too early for my taste i still wanted to see how both Riley would react.
Really that’s an excellent romance suspense with a view on how genetic illness can affect people ( or not) , so quite a few emotional moments, and with a real feeling romance that will leave you swooning.
To recommend! ( Would work as stand alone too but the series is too good to miss it )
This is a beautiful book and I enjoyed it very much.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book.
I love, love, love the Linear Tactical books so why only 4 stars? While I did very much enjoy this book, it was centered around characters only tangentially associated with Linear Tactical and I didn’t get a big old fix of revisiting my old friends.
This is a really good book though with all the feels and lots of excitement. Boy Riley and Girl Riley are both interesting characters that I care about and I did enjoy the bit of angst and moments of danger along the way.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and am glad I did. You should add this one to your TBR pile and read it for yourself.
You know a book is good when you have a hard time putting it down. I have stuff that needs to be done and this book made me ignore all of that.
It’s not often when you read a book where the main characters are already in a serious loving relationship with each other. Normally you would think they already had their HEA or that you missed their initial book. But this one was different. These two have been in a serious relationship for the past 3 years. The majority of it has been through distance as boy Riley’s (Phoenix as he is known to the world) job keeps him going to many different places. Girl Riley (and yes I was confused at first but I love that they share the same first name!) is a nurse who helps out Linear Tactical from time to time. She currently has demons to deal with and that is where this love story takes a turn.
I’m not always a fan of romantic suspense. However this one was different. It was fast paced and really made you think. These two seemed so real to me and I couldn’t help but love them. I hated the drama pushed on Phoenix as I didn’t agree with the reasoning but I can understand why someone would think that. The drama pushed on Wildfire (girl Riley) bothered me as I seriously wanted to punch that man. But in the end I loved the outcome. I loved the emotions, I liked the suspense, and I loved the characters. The secondary characters were fantastic too. This is the first book In read by this author and I may have to go back and read more. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*
If you haven’t read anything from Ms Crouch, I highly recommend her Linear Tactical series. Phoenix is the latest (but not final) book in the series.
The main characters, Girl Riley and, yes, Boy Riley (a couple who just happen to have the same name), are involved in a long-distance relationship. He’s a famous daredevil who also moonlights as a member of the Linear group on occasions when they need his specialized skill. She’s a nurse who met him at one of his competitions where she was providing medical services. Their relationship was working quite well until Girl Riley suddenly broke it off—much to Boy Riley’s consternation. Without giving anything else away, the Rileys battle their feeling for each other, along with several dangerous and mysterious happenings.
Anyway, Phoenix is another must read by Janie Crouch, especially if you read the other books in the series. They all tie together wonderfully (but each could stand on its own). I highly recommend buying this book as well as the rest of the series. You won’t be disappointed…well… I WAS disappointed–but only that this story ended. I’m just hoping to see more of the other characters she introduced through this series. Great book! Great series!
Couldn’t put it down!
The remarkable Ms. Crouch has proved her writing prowess again in this story about Boy Riley and Girl Riley. She withdraws from him upon learning that she has a debilitating illness, but he won’t have any of it. He is participating in a competition that taxes even the hardiest of the entrants (survival of the fittest) even without the attempts to undermine and possibly permanently eliminate them. As always you won’t want to put the book down because there’s always danger around the next corner.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Really enjoyed this story. Riley (Phoenix) and Riley (Wildfire) have such a great relationship. Until Wildfire out of the blue breaks up with Phoenix. Phoenix is an extreme sport athlete who travels the world. Yet their relationship was always solid. He’s devastated and comes home to find out why. This is a lovely story full of romance, adventure and lot’s of lov
RC review. Phoenix is another great Linear Tactical book. The characters and storyline are strong. The 2 Rileys are detailed and interesting and I always love revisiting friends from previous books. The storyline with MS and the two Riley’s relationship problems as the emphasis in the plot was a bit different from the other books in the series but to me it was a brilliant move that helps keep the series fresh and exciting. As usual the details on the extreme sports events, the WAR and even the little mentions of the adventures the 2 Rileys had together were phenomenal. The clash with Sayed at the end was like a signature moment and insured the 2 Rileys took their place in the extended Linear Tactical family. I can’t wait to get more glimpses of their story in future books.
This is yet another great book by Janie Crouch. In this story, Phoenix is the nickname of an adventure and extreme sports athlete. He loves a nurse named Riley (his real first name is Riley, also). Girl Riley is at the current challenging adventure race and has just been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and plans to make a final break with Boy Riley so that she doesn’t ruin his life. it seems someone is sabatoging events at the race, particularly those involving Boy Riley. (I loved this aspect of the book since my husband loves adventure racing, though he hasn’t ever faced the difficulty of the race in this book. I also have a dear friend with MS, so related to that aspect of the book as well). Anyway, the main questions are: Can Girl and By Riley ever have an HEA? And is it even applicable, since at the rate of sabotaging, Boy Riley might not live through the race! And don’t stop reading toward the end – there is another unexpected suspenseful event that occurred. With all this suspense, I highly recommend this book!
this is another page turning story in the series I was given a copy oft he book but this is an honest review if you like suspense with steamy romance you will want to read the book. they have a relationship but she is putting up roadblocks will he find out what is going on and overcome the problems with the help of the rest of the brothers
Boy Riley is a puzzle solver, it’s what makes him good at what he does and he is doing everything he can to figure out the puzzle to Girl Riley and what has her so upset. He loves her too much to not figure it out. I had goosebumps when I read this line “You’ll just come with a set of wheels”. Reading this book, you feel the love. Linear Tactical guys do not leave a man behind. When girl Riley got into trouble, every single one of them banded together to help their “family”. Linear Tactical at the core is family.
In the next Linear Tactical book, the focus is on the Rileys – Boy Riley (Phoenix) and Girl Riley (Wildfire). Girl Riley has had bad news, and she has withdrawn from Phoenix, determined to hide her health condition from everyone. But he is determined not to let that happen, and she questions her decision as incidents on the competition escalate (see the blurb ). As always in Janie Crouch’s books, nothing is straightforward or boring, and there is tension, emotion, an out-of-left-field surprise, and some of the other awesome LT characters. You really need to read this to see if Phoenix and Wildfire have a future, or even if they can both survive the WAR competition.
I received a free copy of this book, and my review is entirely voluntarily.
