Great Story
Ashley & Phillip were college sweethearts but a stupid mistake and her mother’s interference broke them up. But not a golf cart crash brings them back together. All the old hurts need to get talked out and find out if they still love one another.
Phillip Blackthorne was considered the family goof. He never seemed to take things seriously. Losing his parents left a hole in him. He now runs a non-profit for kids that are like him. Needing a safe place to land after losing a parent or a care giver. Ashley Cartwright runs a business that is no way part of her parents company. By accident those two meet again. Old feelings are stirred up. Phillip knew she was the one from college but something happened and she ran. Now they are back in the same world. Old feelings are surfacing. When things are revealed, Ashley let her mother have it. I really liked Ashley’s dad. Another one bites the dust!
I really enjoyed Phillip and Ashley’s story. In my opinion there is some of the story missing, I felt things were a little rushed. I wanted more of the backstory. I wanted more of the Abigail/Ashley story, more of Phillip and his parents story. In my opinion Ashley and Phillip are very immature on some things. Even with the immaturity factor I still liked Ashley and Phillip. I liked Phillip’s big heart and how he is committed to helping kids. I liked Ashley’s drive and her strength. I enjoyed there was more tension in this book than the others. Overall all I liked the book. I read on Kindle Unlimited.
A new to me author that was part of a series that a few authors took part in was a real treat to see how they got all the characters to mesh when it was their turn to take a crack at one of the Blackthorne men. I am enjoying each of the books and feel that you could read them all as a stand alone but it is always best to read them in the order they are numbered. I cant wait to get into the next book.
This was great! I loved Phillip and Ashley’s story. The entire ending really pulled at the heartstrings with the auction and everything with Ashley’s parents. Such a good story! I couldn’t put this down and ended up finishing it very quickly.
This book starts off with Phillip seeming to be the sterotypical spoiled rich kid pulling a prank that causes his girlfriend to break up with him. And his stunt with the golf cart does nothing to change that impression – that is, until you get to know more of who he is and what he suffered as a kid.
Ashley had her own challenges as she grew up given who her mother is, and her mother’s expectations. But Ashley did assert herself by starting her own business rather than falling in her mother’s footsteps.
You could feel the attraction between Phillip and Ashley whenever they were near each other – so much so that it almost derailed their having the needed conversations about their breakup. And it turns out there is more to Phillip than just a spoiled rich kid. Loved the story.
I absolutely love the Blackthorne brothers and cousins. I have to say Phillip is my favorite. There is just something about him and Ashley’s story that was just so enjoyable. I love second chance romance books and this is one of them. But there is more to this storyline then just that. Ashley and Phillip have a past. But Ashley has moved on until one day while she at a charity event she runs into Phillip again when the golf cart he was driving when into her tent and destroys her event. He promises to make things up to her which means they get to work together. Will the old flame be rekindled or will the past be a repeat? Will her mother destroy her future by getting involved? Will Phillip be able to change from the reckless person he is to a good guy that cares about more than just being reckless? I loved Phillip and Ashley. Extreme chemistry and a great storyline between these two. This one was my favorite out of the books that I read so far. A great addition to this series.
Phillip by Cristin Harber is the fourth book in the 7 Brides for 7 Blackthorne Series. I really love this series. It is filled with amazing characters and marvelous locations. The family bond between between the Blackthornes is wonderful. Love the continuity that exists with the characters even though different authors are writing the books. Phillip Blackthorne, the oldest son of Julia and Mark Blackthorne, runs a non-profit, Camp Sunshine, to provide summer camp for children who have suddenly lost their parents or caregivers. Phillip and his brother, Brock, crash into a tent on a runaway golf cart where Ashley Cartwright, an event planner, is holding a charitable benefit for the Laumet Society. Phillip and Ashley, have a history together. They dated ten years ago when they both attended Harvard. Phillip has always been considered irresponsible. He pulled what was supposed to be a harmless prank, that turned out to be humiliating for Ashley. His simple prank cost him the love of his life as she ran away from him. He has not seen or spoken the Ashley since that day. So much was left unsaid. Since all the silent auction items were destroyed in the crash, Phillip decides to make things right and decides to include the Laumet Society in his fundraiser for Camp Sunshine. Ashley, challenges Phillip to auction off his Ferrari, that Ashley believes he hates. Ashley does not realize that the Ferrari is the last gift that Mark gave to Phillip before he and Julia were killed in a plane crash. Phillip decides he wants to take things slow, but Ashley is not certain that Phillip is still not the same reckless and irresponsible guy he was ten years ago. It was a beautifully written love story of love lost and found again. It is filled with many bittersweet and poignant moments. I love how the story slowly unfolds. Love the surprise at the end. Make sure you have your Kleenex near by. I love Phillip and Ashley’s story. Phillip might be my favorite book in the series so far.
5 Star Review of Phillip (7 Brides For 7 Blackthornes #4) by Cristin Harber
I have to say that I am really enjoying this series about the Blackthorne men and the women that capture their hearts. Each story is written by a different author and I love the diversity of the stories and the writing.
Having read and enjoyed several books previously from Cristin Harber I was interested to see what she had in store for Phillip. Phillip seems to me to be the wildest one of the group with an absolutely wicked sense of humour, the one who lands in trouble or causes trouble and I couldn’t wait to start his story.
Phillip’s story is a lover’s to enemy’s to lover’s story that drew me in from the start and refused to let me go. Always known to be up for a prank, he lost the love of his life because of it when Ashley Cartwright dumped him while they were attending Harvard.
Fast forward 12 years and without meaning to Phillip crashes his golf cart right through the charity event that Ashley is holding, even worse it happens on live TV and their re-union is just as public.
The attraction and chemistry between Phillip and Ashley is still there and both realize that the feelings they had for one another haven’t faded. The question is whether these two can confront the past and move forward together, or are they destined to part?
This is a well written, funny, romantic, passionate read was also sad at times. The characters were relatable (although I wasn’t too keen on Ashley’s rather controlling mother) and the writing was strong. An entertaining read that I happily recommend.
The fourth installment of the 7 Brides for 7 Blackthornes series focuses on Phillip. He is considered to be rather irresponsible, always pulling pranks and being somewhat reckless with his actions leaving one of his brothers or cousins to clean up the mess he leaves behind.
During a golf outing with Brock, Phillip decides to go crazy with the golf cart and a brake failure leaves them headed straight towards a tent containing the guests of a major fund-raising event planned by Phillip’s college love, Ashley.
Everything that transpires is caught on live television – from the cart crashing through the tent to Brock and Ashley doing public relations damage control for the event including a shot of a still smitten Phillip watching Ashley with hearts in his eyes.
Phillip vows to make up for any losses the charity may incur from the destruction of the silent auction items and to assist Ashley in any way to help with the rescheduled event.
Ashley’s mother is a media and style icon (seemingly based on Martha Stewart) who accepts nothing less than perfection from her daughter. During their time spent together, Ashley discovers the truth behind her breakup with Phillip during college and it alters her relationship with both Phillip and her parents forever.
This book seemed rather short compared to some of the others so far in the series but it definitely helped to advance the overall Graham/Claire storyline and a satisfactory conclusion to a happy-ever-after that was fourteen years in the making.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I love second chance romances and this one was no exception. Phillip and Ashley met in college, introduced to each other by Philip’s brother Brock. They were complete opposites. Phillip the jokester and Ashley the prim and proper lady always looking for her mother’s acceptance. One stupid incident, and words stuck in Ashley’s head, and they broke up. Years later another incident brings them back together again and flames ignite. This book was pretty low key with a little drama. I love drama every now and then but sometimes it’s to far out in left field so I appreciated the little we got. I also appreciated that Phillip wasn’t labeled a man whore during the time they were apart. I’m sure he had his fun but that missing time wasn’t something focused on. I liked seeing them build their relationships again and finally realize that what they had couldn’t be destroyed. In all this was a sweet second chance at love with two people who deserved it. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*
I absolutely love the 7 Brides for 7 Blackthorns series and Phillip is a great addition! It had me laughing from the start! The story grabs you from the start and keeps you reading until the end! It has a wonderful storyline and amazing characters!
Phillip and Ashley were in love in college but broke up over a stunt gone wrong. Phillip is going to show her he’s changed and win her back. Will he be able to prove that he’s changed? Will she give him another chance? If you haven’t read any of the 7 Brides for 7 Blackthorns I recommend that you do! I’m sure that you will love them too!
The past comes back to haunt them
Ashley has always sought the approval of her mother in particular and after she whispers in her ear about her boyfriend Phillip and how he’s not the right Blackthorne to make a respectable partner for Ashley, they break up over a silly incident. Fast forward years later and Ashley is making a name for herself organising events for businesses and non-profits. Unfortunately, when a golf cart careens into their tent, with Phillip at the helm…all their past issues rise once again
Phillip has always been the more carefree Blackthorne with a bit of a mischievous streak when the golf cart he’s driving loses its brakes and steering, landing in a tent set up for a charity event. Trying to make things right, Phillip is asked to sell his luxury car to fix the damage sustained by the cart. Sparks fly between Ashley and Phillip and they both wonder how things would’ve turned out years before and if they can have that future a second time around now?
Loved this story and I look forward to finding out more Blackthorne secrets in Brock’s story next

Phillip by Cristin Harber is book 4 in the series 7 Brides for 7 Blackthornes written by six other amazing authors! Each book is a standalone but has an underlying story that connects to each book…
Phillip Blackthorne and Ashley Cartwright where friends and lovers in college until a mischievous prank turns both their worlds upside down and tears them apart. Now years later, Phillip pulls another prank, golf car crashes into Ashley’s charity event on live TV…what happens next will keep you turning pages as these two still have unresolved issues, sparks, pranks, secrets and hopefully a second chance at their HEA…
Brock by Roxanne St. Clair is up next but we still don’t have any answers to the underlying story…
From the moment Phillip and Ashley’s eyes meet after years apart, their insta-connection with deep roots erupts back to life, blazing through past and present heartwrenching burdens to a place of healing and contentment.
Ashley struggles with breaking fully from the expectations of others and living up to impossible standards pressed upon her. Feeling her helplessness and pain, it’s beautiful to watch her break her way through those chains and find herself. It’s always a journey, and feels neverending, but you can see Ashley finding her way.
Phillip has his own set of burdens and pain to carry, and like Ashley, while his eyes came opened to seeing reality and the truth, it still is a long journey to healing, but one he takes on and finds a place of peace.
I adore how these two are total opposites, but yet they match up, filling up the missing parts of the other. Phillip had me melting with his pursuit of Ashley and tenacity to dig in and claim her and not let her go. Ashley had me cheering with her fight and resolve to make it through, even as much as she could also run away. I mean, who doesn’t need an escape at times?
Blending some giggles with heart touching truths and sweet moments, this story delivers on all the feels, giving a sense of hope, healing and acceptance.
After a prank that went very wrong twelve years ago, Ashley walked away from her romance with Phillip, noting that his immaturity was just way too much. But as his luck will have it they meet again after he crashes a golf cart through the tent of her fundraiser. The only way to fix the problem is for Phillip to work with Ashley and try to recoup the loss at another event. But can Phillip redeem himself and prove to the only woman he ever loved that he is so much more than fun and games? Will Ashley give him a chance to prove he is worth fighting for? This story had me laughing out loud in sections and wiping tears from my cheeks with others. The Blackthorne series is filled with such great characters and Cristin Harber’s book is a wonderful addition.
