Don’t miss the classic tale from King of Horror and #1 New York Times bestselling author Stephen King, described by Publishers Weekly as “the most frightening novel Stephen King has ever written.” When the Creeds move into a beautiful old house in rural Maine, it all seems too good to be true: physician father, beautiful wife, charming little daughter, adorable infant son—and now an idyllic home. … home. As a family, they’ve got it all…right down to the friendly cat. But the nearby woods hide a blood-chilling truth—more terrifying than death itself…and hideously more powerful. The Creeds are going to learn that sometimes dead is better.

In the foreword before the story begins, Stephen King describes how he dug this book out of a drawer to send to his agent to fulfill a contract, having not looked at it since he committed the story to paper, and that he was horrified by what he’d written.
One can see why. This book is brutal. In my opinion, King’s best work is when he combines …
Believe it or not, after 700+ books read (and I know there’s at least 100 I’ve forgotten to review over the years), I’ve never read a Stephen King novel. I’ve seen a few movies and enjoyed them (Dolores Claiborne, Misery, It, Carrie, The Shining) but never actually read one. Yep, I’m a loser, I know it… okay, done yelling at me? Let’s get on to …
A haunting and frightening book, in ways completely different to those I expected. This is probably thematically King’ strongest book, starting off with a thread of existential dread about human mortality (for ourselves and our children), and then following that dread into a dark, supernatural place. One of the best books King has ever written, …
Dr. Louise Creed and his family move to Ludlow, Maine. A beautifully idyllic and quiet town, where the neighbors get to know each other and everything seems almost perfect. But there’s something that always keeps things from being “just right”. He’s moved into a beautiful, large old home, but the logging trucks that drive by on the main road in …
This book is the only book in the history of books , that I put down and had tremendous difficulty reading to the end. I didn’t think I could read another word at certain parts of this book. I had to force myself onward, it’s just a book, right? I’m glad I did, it’s unspeakable in some places, but it’s ok, King doesn’t go there, but you are …
I read this many years ago, at the time I owned a cat that looked just like the one on the cover, she would sleep at the foot of my bed. I lived in the isolated area in the woods, in Connecticut. I looked up on night as I was reading and she was looking at me- I got a chill. I actually put her out of my room and closed the door. This is one of my …
“A place where the family could settle; the children grow and play and explore. The rolling hills and meadows of Maine seemed a world away from the fume-choked dangers of Chicago.”
I think this is King’s scariest novel, especially for parents. His always achingly accurate depictions of children (who he then ruthlessly puts into peril), are …
It’s a great Stephen King book I love it!!!!!!!!!
What a disturbing read! I had seen the original movie numerous times but had never read the book until now. I am not sure which was more disturbing though. This book definitely came across creepier and more chilling than the movie but maybe that was due to my overactive imagination. Do not be turned off by what I said I did enjoy this read and I …
This is such a creepy story–the kind you just can’t stop reading! One that has stood the test of time! And the audio version read by Michael C. Hall (think Dexter) is AMAZING! If you’ve already read it, re-read it, it’s that good!
One of the best from that master of horror. I think I read it in three days.
I read this book for the first time 30 years ago and I’ve reread it several times since. Being a young teenager, this book took me way out of my comfort zone. The idea of the dead coming back to life coupled with King’s writing was downright creepy. To this day I still can recall certain passages from the book quite vividly. In my opinion, one of …
I’ve always been a fan of Stephen King but he really outdid himself on this one. Everybody loves their family and pets so this was easy to imagine. It scared the heck out of me but I could not put it down. If you only read one S.K. book, make this the one!
At this point in time, everyone is aware of Pet Sematary and the movies made from the book. What I found a little frustrating is the way that the book swerves towards its conclusion. When reading it, I can’t escape the sense that King was just starting to spin his yarn when he decided to cut it off and get it done for the sake of completing it. …
Pet Sematary tells the story of the Creed family as they move and start a new life in Ludlow, Maine. A nice house, career opportunities, friendly neighbors…what more could you ask for? Little do they know about the eerie Pet Sematary behind their house in the woods…or what lies beyond that.
This was my first Steven King novel and I absolutely …
A Tier. Solid A. Terrifying concept. Although not the scariest book I’ve read, it is however a different type of scary story that is much more terrifying for parents focusing on death and grief. It is a very atmospheric book. Slow build with a mind blowing ending. Character development is amazing, love Louis and Jud.
“Pet Sematary” is a classic horror tale which captured ’80s Americana in a wonderful way with great characters and a compelling story. I can still remember the scenes as they opened up to me while reading the book. Recommended if you like horror.
A great Stephen King book.
1.5
If I thought The Shining had a lot of fluff this one is PACKED with it. I don’t know if doing the audiobook made it worse, but I felt like it dragged on and on. At times, it was so unbearably boring I would shut it off and I’ve never done that with an audiobook before. There are parts that were good and I do think the plot was super unique, …
