AN ALL-NEW STANDALONE FROM NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR JULIA KENTOne hundred years ago when I was young and impulsive (okay, it was five, alright? Five years ago…) I let my boyfriend take, let’s just say…compromising pictures of me.(Shut up. It made sense at the time).Surprise! The sleazy back-stabbing jerk posted them on a website and, well, you can guess what happened. That’s right.I’m … happened. That’s right.
I’m a meme. A really gross one.
You’re seen the pictures. And if you haven’t – don’t ask. And don’t look!
As face recognition software online improves, I get tagged on social media whenever anyone shares my pictures. You try getting a thousand notifications a day, all of them pictures of your tatas.
So. I’m done.
It’s time for revenge. Let him see how it feels! But how do you get embarrassingly intimate pictures of your jerkface ex who double-crossed you five years ago?
Especially when he’s a member of the U.S.House of Representatives now?
Getting sweet between the sheets with a congressman is pretty much every political roadie’s dream, right? I’m one in a crowd.
Except to this day, he swears he didn’t do it. Pursued me for months after I dumped him five years ago. Begged me to take him back.
And I almost did it. Almost. I was weak and stupid and in love a hundred years ago.
Okay. Fine. Five.
But I still have the upper hand. Second chance romance has all the emotional feels, doesn’t it?
I can’t wait to punch him in the feels.
All I need to do is sleep with him once, take some hot-and-sweaty pics of him in… delicate positions, and bring him down. That’s it. Nothing more.
Pictures first. Revenge after. And then I win.
At least, that’s how it was supposed to happen. But then I did something worse than sexting.
I fell in love with him. Again.

Trust and communication, if it had only been there from the start. This is a great second chance story with those quirky high jinks we love from Julia Kent. Just her characters names, Perky, Dancy, Feisty, cause a chuckle. And of course the steam is rising as usual. I might just have to grab my husband and checkout my coat closet!
This book surprised me. After reading Fluffy, I anticipated more vocabulary lessons and hysterical laughter until my sides hurt and I was wiping away tears. Perky had a completely different tone and goes a lot deeper, showcasing the author’s versatility. And it suits the story, considering it’s a second chance for a romance that ended in an epically horrendous way.
Persephone (Perky) Tsongas is world famous. Well, at least her chest is. She lost the love of her life over it when he leaked a nude picture of her that was turned into a meme that trended like wildfire. But when she sees Parker Campbell five years later at her best friend’s pre-wedding festivities, she can’t seem to keep her lips off of him.
Perky’s story is one of shattered dreams, lost love, surviving scandal, overcoming disappointments, rectifying misunderstandings, and best of all, second chances. Yes, there’re still plenty of laughs and lighter moments, but even more emotional tugs at the heart strings. These characters will own your heart as you follow them to their ever after, so be sure to grab this fantastic, heartwarming story of redemption where love always wins!
*I read an early edition of this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide feedback and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source.
With Julia Kent’s usual sure hand for comedy and character development, Perky is a fabulous, fun and completely entertaining read. While there is great milage to be had from Persephone’s ascerbic wit and the bond between our three diverse heroines, this book is also thoughtful about relationships and the dangers inherent in believing the worst of another. When you have been deeply hurt it takes a lot to turn that Titanic feeling around and accept you might be wrong!
With wonderful, off the wall conversations, the input of the calmly exasperated Raul, the combustible feelings between Perky and Parker (what a great combination of names ), you will find yourself in the type of wonderful chaos that I love.
Once again Julia Kent has delivered a read that had me in stitches, I laughed out loud or should I say snorted out loud and one bit advice I need to give you is don’t read Perky while eating or drinking because you risk covering anyone sitting close by with what’s in your mouth……
Perky follows on from Fluffy which is a series of second chance romances and I have to say so far this is one of the best series of romantic comedy’s of this year but to honest I wouldn’t expect any thing less from this very talented author. This book is an entertaining fun read read with quirky characters you can’t help loving, it’s about friendship and romance with some sizzling hot chemistry but will the chemistry be enough for Perky’s first love Parker to redeem himself when he comes back into town. Perky is a smart, funny yet dramatic woman and she is someone I’m sure we would all love to have as a friend but one thing is certain life would never be boring with her by your side and for me one of the highlights of this great read was the the friendship Mallory and Fiona shared with her, I loved the banter and every character in this book and I’m so looking forward to book 3 which I understand will be the final book in this great series.
I loved Parker and perky! Can’t wait for the next book. Love Julia!!!
Five years ago, Perky’s life fell apart. In one day she lost the love of her life, her privacy, her dignity and her anonymity in the world. One photo that turned her into a meme that would be plastered over the internet and ruin her life. More importantly, it was Parker, her best friend and true love who posted it; well it must have been – he took it and was the only other person to have a copy of it. And now, five years later, he has walked into her life again, still as gorgeous and hot as ever and still apparently in love with her, and more importantly still proclaiming his innocence.
This book is so smart and witty that you really wish that Perky and her friends Mallory and Fi, were your friends too. It’s clever with plenty of laugh out loud moments and gut wrenching lows that make your heart hurt. Although it is a standalone, and can be read as such, it is worth reading Mallory’s story in Fluffy. You won’t regret either.
5 star review Perky by Julia Kent
Julia Kent never fails to deliver; whenever I see her name I know that I am in for a fabulous read. As with previous books I have read I was in stitches having laughed so much I cried. That’s right, not only laughing but snort laughing, totally unattractive I assure you and the looks I got from my fellow commuters just made me laugh even harder.
Julia Kent is one of my go to authors in the romantic comedy genre. There is just something about her style of writing that draws me in and I devour her books.
I absolutely loved the premise for Persephone’s (Perky) story. Perky was everything that I hoped it would be and so much more. Perhaps because Ms. Kent has such an ability to write about characters who are human, engaging and realistic that you cannot help but be drawn in to the story she weaves.
Betrayed years before by Parker, the man she loved, Perky is determined to seek her revenge. After all he pursued her for months after she dumped him after his betrayal. I
I so felt for Perky and the embarrassment and humiliation she has been made to live with over the last 5 years and I totally understand her need for revenge.
Although a hilarious read it is also a story of a second chance at love, of taking a leap of faith. The secondary characters were an absolute hoot and it was great to catch up with Will and Mallory. Reconnecting at the rehearsal dinner Parker still maintains his innocence and he still has feelings for Perky. Unfortunately Perky’s head is set on revenge but her body and heart are still drawn to Parker. Which will win out head or heart?
I fell hard and fast for Parker, he ticked all my boxes and was totally swoon worthy.
This is a gem of a book and in my humble opinion Ms.Kent has another winner on her hands.
This book has it all – tenderness, connection, steam, humor, lots of snark and it was full of feels. I came to love these characters in “Little Miss Perfect” and “Fluffy.” This could be a standalone but having met the characters previously made the experience that much richer. I loved the friendship between Mallory, Perky and Fiona. Their friendship was something really special and they had each other to lean on no matter what. Raul made me laugh and the dogs thought I’d lost it when I was laughing out loud at a few spots – especially the Go Pro reference. I will probably laugh again whenever I see a Go Pro. Parker was perfect. All he wanted was to be with Perky and their connection was electric. Perky was something else and was definitely not afraid to speak her mind. Her personality shines. There was a bit of a twist at the end but you can kind of see it coming. I can’t wait for Feisty’s book to come out.
This is Perky written by Julia Kent. I loved this book! We start at a party for Will and Mallory in preparation for their wedding. Perky is serving as bridesmaid and is thoroughly surprised when the man of her dreams…oops…I meant nightmares, Parker is there as a groomsman. They just can’t seem to keep their hands off each other though…? Lol. I LOVED all of the Harry Potter references! Ms Delores Umbridge indeed! KMSL. it’s another great book by the talented Julia Kent! You can’t go wrong with her books!
Persephone and Parker have amazing chemistry, but they are not together because of a crazy online naked photo post. She says he posted it and he has denied it for 5 years. The story starts when Parker shows up to be in the wedding party of a mutual friend. Persephone (Perky) is hilarious and Parker is amazing. This is a fun enemies to lovers story.
Julia Kent is a genius! I was hooked from the first page. This is a second chance at love book. Perky and parker were together for 8 months before she thought he had betrayed her, fast forward to 5 years later and he shows up to the rehearsal rehearsal dinner for her best friends wedding. Perky still has chemistry and sparks fly with Parker, but will she listen to him and will they have their happily ever after? This book was amazing and I loved that it has characters from the first book in it and ties it all together. I hope Fiona will have her book soon and can not wait to see what her story is.
This was stupendously funny and, at times, heart tugging. Perky (Persephone) was deeply in love with Parker—the forever kind. So when he released a compromising photo of her that deeply humiliated her, it broke her heart and she broke up with him. He swore he didn’t do it and continued for over a year to try and convince her of it. So five years later, when he ends up being “Skip,” her partner in her bestie Mallory’s wedding, and kisses her, she punches him hard. A natural reaction, but he’s now a congressman and he still swears he didn’t do it. She wants revenge. But she still wants him. But she wants revenge. Too bad that every time they come into contact they end up in some type of closet in extremely close contact. I love this series and can’t wait for Feisty’s story!
