Just when the current seems safer, an unseen danger emerges and threatens to destroy everything. When Cassidy Livingston finds a journal hidden deep in the recesses of her ice cream truck, her curiosity kicks into high gear. Islanders suspect that Elsa, the journal’s owner, didn’t die accidentally. Her final entry indicates their suspicions might be correct and that what Elsa observed on her final … on her final night may have led to her demise.
Against the advice of Ty Chambers, her former Navy SEAL boyfriend, Cassidy taps into her detective skills and hunts for answers. But her search only leads to a skeletal body and trouble for both of them. As helplessness threatens to drown her, Cassidy is desperate to turn back time.
Can Cassidy find what she needs to navigate the perilous situation? Or will the riptide surrounding her threaten everyone and everything Cassidy loves?

This is as good as the rest of the series! It goes back and forth, past to present.
You never know who or what will happen to this spunky, brave heroine.
For four months, I’ve followed Cassidy through some harrowing situations. But this detective-in-hiding always manages to outsmart her opponents and solve the crime.
Now that Ty is aware of her past, Cassidy can sit back and be herself with the man she loves. But when he’s accused of a crime, Cassidy must solve the most important case of her life.
With Ty indisposed, Cassidy accepts the aid of his friends, allowing readers to get to know the supporting cast a bit better (one of my favorite things about Perilous Riptide).
Christy Barritt delivers another action-packed, intense read that kept me guessing until close to the end. Hang on tight readers, Lantern Beach is not free from crime yet (and the suspect list includes some people you may recognize).

I love the Lantern Beach Mystery Series. Christy does a great job of drawing the reader into the story. The icing on the cake are the wonderful Christian themes woven into the stories.
New information emerges in this fifth book of an exciting mystery series, but the waters are not crystal clear yet. Who is really behind the notorious gang DH-7 that wants to wipe out Cassidy Livingston? Can she and her neighbor-boyfriend Ty Chambers solve the puzzle she’s caught in? The rapid-paced novel keeps you swimming to the end, where hopefully everything will be work out okay for these realistic characters you can’t help but care about. What does the future hold for the former detective? Surprises pop up in this volume too, which add to the intrigue. You’ll want to read all the books in order for the full experience. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
I love all the Lantern Beach series. Each book has a great plot, and you feel as if you know the characters.
Like this series
She finally opens up to who she is and now even more is at risk. With Ty unavailable she needs help but will they suspect there’s more to her than she’s let on? It’s a juggling game that could put her further in the cross hairs. This girl finds more trouble around her than the law allows but now she feels responsible for the problems it’s caused for those around her. Now she has no choice, she’ll do whatever it takes for those she loves. False accusations, lives in jeopardy, dead bodies, truths revealed, it’s all just another day in her life. Again action and revelations.
This series just gets better as it continues. There were many twists and turns in this one that I didn’t see coming. Ty in jail, the house on fire, the tape recorder, who-done-it… all lent to a a great read. Watching Cassidy’s heart grow in love for Ty and those she is beginning to call family on Lantern Beach is endearing. I look forward to the ending of this series.
Maybe my favorite Christy Barritt series.
Christy Barritt will keep you turning the pages. I received the first book in the series as a freebie. When I finished it I ordered the next one and before I knew it I bought all 6 books in the series and loved each one. I read all six books in less than 7 days. There is suspense, murder, gang related drug trafficking, humor- an ice cream that seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to playing music – even when its not turned on. You can read each book in the series as a stand alone but each one will not complete the whole story. Each one is better than the last and has a teaser at the end. There is human trafficking, romance, a lighthouse that plays a part in almost all the books. Some of the characters are just that – characters to love, laugh at, some that will make you wonder which side of the law they are really on. My kindle went everywhere with me while I was reading this series.
No one asked me to read, review or say anything about these books. All opinions are my own and all I can say is that I was sorry to see the series to come to an end. I normally don’t like series that go more than 3-4 books. I highly recommend the Lantern Beach series. WARNING!! You might lose some sleep or let a few errands go. I did.
A really great book. Highly recommended. The whole series is good.
I love most of Christy Barritt’s characters and books. This series is no exception.
I liked this book. I like all of Christy’ s books.
Very good book.
I am liking this author. She has God stories with interesting characters. She weaves the word of God throughout the story which I like.
“I’ve seen that look before . . . .The one that’s usually a catalyst for getting involved with something otherwise forbidden.”
She just can’t help it, being curious, that is. Unsolved mysteries just keep falling into the lap of Cassidy Livingston, and this time Elsa, the pink ice cream truck, is to blame. Elsa, the person, had kept a journal hidden in her truck and the final entry seems to indicate that there was a murder on the beautiful island of Lantern Beach, North Carolina. Did the owner of the infamous truck meet her demise in a more sinister manner than a simple fall resulting in a fatal head injury; because she saw what happened?
Of course Cassidy ignores the voice of reason, namely that of Ty Chambers, her boyfriend and former Navy SEAL, when they travel to the location of the supposed murder. Cassidy’s life depends on remaining under the radar, hiding her training as an homicide detective, while waiting to appear as a witness in a highly charged trial on the West Coast. But when the facts described in the journal cause a terrible misunderstanding, Cassidy grieves over the fact that she ever got involved.
As if this series couldn’t get any better, it does!
Love these books, can’t wait for the next one.
Love this series. Can’t wait for the next one
I can not wait for the next book to come out in June!
Perilous Riptide is the fifth installment in Christy Barritt’s Lantern Beach Mystery series. I have absolutely loved every one of them, but I have to say I think this is my favorite. It is one of those books that ends with the reader saying, I surely didn’t see that coming. I have been curious about what really happened to Elsa, the original owner of the ice cream truck, since I started reading the series. I am glad those questions were finally answered in this book.
As I have come to expect, this book is fast-paced, full of mystery, and full of the same fabulous and somewhat quirky characters I have grown to love. I can’t wait to read book six, Deadly Undertow, when it releases next month.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
