If you like cozy mysteries you will have to buy the book to find out
Recommend to anyone who likes a quick and funny read
More Lucy & Ethel than Thelma & Louise!
Dora is CPA with an inner wild child which is brought out during this madcap mystery! She is usually the straight-woman to her flighty friends, Evie, more…bohemian hippy-dippy. But both women are made of stronger, sterner stuff than they know and both hide harsh pasts.
With friends that are enemies, double-dealing cops, money laundering and two very different romances on the bubble, there is a lot to keep you enchanted. Not least Sunshine, psychic or just very smart pup!
My only gripe was the cliffhanger – I hate those! However, I can’t wait to see what else New Orleans holds for the dynamic duo!
I listened to this book on Chirp. It was hard to determine how good the story was with the way the narrator chose to read it. There were parts that I’m sure were meant to be tense, but it didn’t come through the narration. All in all it was a pretty good story.
Good, really good. Evie about drove me nuts though. She does seem to care about a few others and Not just herself but we’ll see. Now Dora is who I just LOVE. We are alot a like so cheering for her is easy. The only part I didn’t like (other than Evie) was the cliffhanger ending. Had I known I would have checked the second book out too from the library.
I really liked the story line as well as the writing. It was different in the fact that the writing was from two points of view (two main characters) and it really brought the characters feelings out. The one thing that I haven’t decided if I like or not is that the original problem has not been resolved after three books. However, I have purchased all three and will continue to do so. I really like the series.
This was an exciting, non stop action, funny, tense story that have Dora and her BFF Evie are trying to solve a shooting that Dora is involved in when she discovers people aren’t always who they pretend to be. I raced through this book like you would think the car on the cover would race down the road. Lucy Quinn always writes great mysteries that keep you guess until the end and this one is not diffferent I am sure looking forward to reading the second book in this series.
I enjoyed every minute of this fun cozy mystery that kept me entertained and intrigued from beginning to end with great characters and a good must-solve mystery. I really liked Dora Winslow who stumbles upon a money laundering scheme and loved her dynamic with the other characters especially her best friend Evie Grant, Sunshine – Evie’s little white dog, and sexy chef Luke Landucci. If you enjoy well-written laugh-out-loud cozies, don’t miss “Peril in Pensacola”, the first book in the Accidentally Undercover Mysteries by Lucy Quinn. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review. I liked it so much, I purchased a copy.
Such a wonderful cozy mystery. That also includes two puppies.m
Loved reading….
I just found too many farfetched situations in this book. If something isn’t believable it just hits me the wrong way. I managed to finish the book but I won’t be reading the rest of the series, although I might try another book by its author depending on the genre.
In Peril in Pensacola, two ditsy females – Dora and Evie – and one very smart dog – Sunshine – end up involved in money, laundering and murder. Dora, Evie and Sunshine end up fleeing their homes as they seek poof that Dora is not a murderer. Their crazy antics as they try to stay alive made for a very entertaining afternoon!
I have never read a cozy mystery that has a cliffhanger – I did not care for that. The story was interesting and moved along quickly. The characters had distinct personalities and were relatable. The main characters Dora and Evie were funny, ditzy, and completely dedicated to each other.
Peril in Pensacola was a fun read. You jump right into the action in the first chapter, so not much character development to begin. As you read further into the story, the character development is gradual, then you begin to see how the characters venture outside of their comfort zones because of the situations they are in.
This book ends in a cliff hanger so if you want to find out what happens next you will need to continue reading the second book.
Overall, this was a fun book to read. It’s a very quick paced book and will have you wondering what will come next?
If you enjoy mystery and merriment coupled with intriguing locales and unforgettable characters, this series is highly recommended. Dora and Evie are BFFs with a sense of adventure and a knack for trouble. After Dora discovers illegal business dealings by her employer’s son, she becomes the primary suspect in the employer’s death; and with the help of Evie and some colorful assistants and villains sets out to prove her innocence. From a strip joint, to an adult emporium, to an alligator farm and then on to a senior center, the journey proceeds with ever increasing urgency and laugh out loud situations. Now as the book ends, the two friends are on their way to New Orleans In search of a flash drive, hoping to finally obtain the definitive evidence to show that Dora is no murderer. I expect Bourbon Street has some surprises for the determined duo and I intend to be along for the ride.
Dora and Evie begin a crazy adventure of chasing evidence and bad guys, escaping alligators and finding out that sometimes the smartest person in the room is a cute dog named Sunshine. I am sure that in the next book we will find that New Orleans may never be the same after this crew comes to town.
Romantic new cozy mystery series, with double the romance! Dora, Evie, Luke, Billy and the other characters are on a whirlwind adventure; can’t help enjoying the suspenseful shenanigans! A cliffhanger.
Voluntarily read ARC for honest review.
Normally I am a paranormal romance or sci fi romance reader but it read Lucy Quinn last series and was hooked! So I had to see if she could get me again. Lol OMG she did
The story is about Dora who is an accountant for the restaurant two to mango it’s the perfect job maybe just too perfect. Her best friend is Evie and that girl has had way to many jobs . She also has a love interest named Trace who is a rock singer.
As things get crazy Dora gets attached to a great guy named Luke and there is a sweet mailman Billy that gets pulled into all this craziness lol oh and bad guys don’t forget them. Lol
I can’t ready tell you more because it will just spoil the fun for you so I’ll let you read it. And OMG I am so hooked on this series too. Awesome story. Great characters! It’s got mystery, action, drama, betrayal, humor, and so much more. Don’t miss it. I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait for the next book to come out. It’s an adventure.
Voluntarily review a copy and I honestly loved it .
Well, that was a delightful first in a new series for Lucy Quinn.
Peril in Pensacola was a wonderful mystery surrounding BFF’s Dora and Evie and I just have to say both of these characters are amazing Dora in a slightly more conservative way and Evie is adorable and right out there…lol
I love how the boys Luke and Billy added to the madness and mayhem… in other words they kind of saved the day…lo.l and it was good that Brian got what he deserved now the girls are in New Orleans and I don’t think that’s all going to go as easy as it should…lol let’s hope Luke gets to come to the girls rescue again I mean who doesn’t love a guy that can cook and whisper to alligators…lol
Vividly funny and delightful, I can’t wait for more.
DISCLOSURE; Strictly on a volunteer basis, I reviewed a pre-release copy.
Intriguing mystery with – suspense – action – humor – danger – an adorable intelligent dog – a sultry chef and the start of a romance.
Dora unfortunately, is on the run from the police; she is the prime suspect in her boss’s murder. A cop she trusted is just as dirty as her money laundering boss. Dora’s best friend Evie offers help in proving her innocence. Dangerous rescues take place.
Captivating creative read with engaging characters that spring to life with witty dialogue and vivid scene descriptions. Loved this story. I look forward to reading the next segment in this series which takes place in the enchanting city of New Orleans.
Great job, Dora thinks. Bookkeeper for a great boss and multi-business company. Great view. That is until she finds out too much. That great bosses son is using the company to launder money. For who? Just himself? When she tries to find out she gets more info than she bargained for with unbelievable results. Results that put her in danger and on the run undercover to clear her name.
Never fear, bestie Evie is right there to back her up and don’t forget her sweet, smart little pooch. This escapade involves some good guys and some bad guys she thought were good. Add an alligator or two, a trusty mailman and a hot James Bond lookalike chef and you have the basis for some fun, danger and maybe even some romance.
Part one is fun and action-packed can’t wait for the next part.
