Wow!! I’m sad to see the end of this series. Could read over and over. Alex Grayson is an amazing author..
Awaken Me is the final book in the Jaded series. The end of the series brings us to Nick’s story.
After Anna’s death he has been in self destruct mode. Torturing himself with his memories, drinking none stop and not letting anyone close to him….
Chris has felt a connection to Nick from the moment she met him, with his pain filled eyes. It started off with just wanting to help him get through the pain. As time has gone by it’s so much more….
Can Chris save Nick from the demons of his past?
Will Nick let go of the darkness that is eating away at him, before it’s too late?
Wow! Awaken Me is the fourth and final (maybe?!) book in The Jaded Series. I highly recommend you read the first three to truly appreciate how we get to Nick and Chris’s story…..and what a story! I have felt EVERY emotion as I read this book……and some. This literally brought me to my knees with my vital organs smashed all over the floor, to have them placed back in to then have my heart ripped out and stomped on again! At 74% of the way in, I retreated to the sanctuary of my room to sleep! Ha! Like that happened…..it didn’t! But I needed to regroup before finishing the book, sounds dramatic?! Pshh! I don’t want to say much more because I don’t want to give anything away. If you haven’t read this book yet or any of the others in the series, go and one click NOW!! Please!
I knew Chris and Nick’s story would be a bumpy ride, but one that I could not wait to jump into the entire series, so I was glad to know his story would round out the series.
Nick is still dealing with the loss of Anna, a woman he loved for most of his life. Then Chris came along and made Nick feel again for the first time in years, but these feelings gave him an overwhelming feeling of guilt. Guilt of erasing memories he is not ready to let go of.
There were times when I wanted to shake Chris. I could not have stayed and endured the many different personalities Nick had. One minute hot, one minute cold, the next minute he was down right mean. She just knew he was worth saving.
Together they had to go through the trenches in order to come out of the other side. Sometimes it takes your world being tipped on its axis to realize you cannot live in the past, you can only move forward with your future before it slips away from you.
This is one of the most solid series I have read. Not one book was filler or fluff, they are all jam packed with angst, suspense, and romance. Each story adding to the love you will have for all of these characters. Thank you Jaded Hollow. What a ride!!
This is a very long read and, much as I enjoyed it, some of it felt like fillers and some felt like deja vu. I think we had just one too many ‘I wan’t you/I don’t want you’ scenes for my taste. My head whipped back and forth with it all, as though watching a record-breaking rally in tennis.
I fully got why Nick was struggling, and didn’t actually have an issue with the most of his behaviour/ attitude in the book. You really need to have read Book 1, so that you understand both the relationship he had with Anna and the devastating way it ended. I totally got his ire and attitude with his friends after this. I did wonder why no-one suggested he seek therapy/ counselling but hey, that would have been an entirely different book, so I let that one go! LOL.
I did struggle with how much of a doormat Chris was. She didn’t really know the Nick but kept going back for more and more mean treatment by him. If she’d been one of his friends before, had perhaps known him for years and had a crush etc, I would have more easily accepted her continued attempts. As things stand it made her seem like a fairly weak heroine, and at first I struggled to connect with her. It took a while, but by the end of the story I did care about Chris as much as I did Nick.
All that said it’s a well written book, the writing flows well, the story is easy to follow, the descriptions are good and don’t have any ‘continuity errors’. I’ve already said it’s a long book but it never felt like hard work to read it. The characters are very normal and ‘real’ in their construction and again, reading the previous books will give you more context for the supporting characters. I do think if you’ve read them then your reading of this book will enhanced and richer. There are plenty of plot twists, lots of angst and some ‘on the edge of paranormal’ happenings.
There are books that break your heart, books that totally wreck you mind and spirit, then there’s Awaken Me! Prepare yourself for this book! It’s a book that is going to hurt your heart and cause… this emotional mess of conflicting emotions that you will NOT be able to control. This entire Jaded Series is emotional, but Awaken Me and Shatter Me (book 1). I honestly do not want to go into this storyline at all!! If you’ve read the other books, you know what you are getting yourself into… if you haven’t read the other, read book 1, at least! Alex Grayson’s writing is so smooth and fluid. She transports you to another time! I can’t recommend this book, this series enough!!
After reading the other books in this series, I fully expected an emotional read and this one has that in spades. For most of this story I didn’t like Nick, but at the same time my heart broke for him and his grief over Anna. I would suggest that readers heed the warning in the blurb because Nick is both crude and harsh with Chris. I would’ve liked to have seen Chris take up for herself and stand up to Nick, but I have to say that the tension between them certainly kept the story moving. This one isn’t as dark as the rest of the series, but it does have its share of drama. The emotions run the gamut and I think I felt them all right along with these characters – anger, grief, sadness, love, heat, despair, and even hope. There are parts of Nick and Chris’ story that are hard to read, and I seriously thought about closing the book and not looking back more than once. Several times I was so mad at Nick that I wanted to shake him until his teeth rattled and in a matter of a few lines, I felt so sorry for him that I could’ve reached into the book and hugged him. This pair’s hard won romance was so compelling that I had to see how it all played out, no matter how upset I got at the characters. In the end, Nick and Chris may not be my favorite couple in Jaded Hollow, but Nick’s story needed to be told and is a good finish for the series. And when an author stirs up as many emotions as this one did, she’s done her job and done it well.
This was a very emotional book! Nick is still haunted by the events that happened in Shatter Me. Chris is the outsider to the group and she is smitten with Nick. He wants absolutely nothing to do with her and is beyond mean to her. Chris doesn’t give up on him. She makes sure he is going to be okay even if it is not with her. I wanted to throttle Nick sometimes but I understood where he was coming from. This was a great wrap up to an emotional series. I enjoyed it immensely!
Thank you for the privilege of reading this book! Amazing series
This story has all the emotions.
After Nick losses the love of his life in a unimaginable horrific way he’s lost. He has not desire, he doesn’t want to live without Anna.
Chrisabelle comes to town to see her friend Bailey after the ordeal she went tru. She finds herself to be pull towards Nick, but he’s not interested. At least, that’s what he claims.
Could Chris really save Nick from the darkness he finds himself in?
Can Nick let go of Anna and find love once again with Chris?
You will definitely need a box (if not several) of tissues with this story!
