Who says the matchmaker can’t fall in love? This story and plot is intriguing. It’s so intriguing that one party is trying to get rid of the matchmaker, so the Duke will marry the woman selected for him. I enjoyed this story and the intrigue around Alexandra. This story is well written and the plot well thought out.
Ok, I can’t resist: Patricia Haverton‘s Perfectly Mismatched with the Duke is s perfect match for me. Whew. Ok. Out of my system. Now, as for the book itself, it really is quite terrific if you’re anything like me and love a well told and period-appropriate historical Regency Romance novel. Especially if you’ve a weakness for dashing dukes. (*Sigh*). That it’s very well written and had a delicious plot makes it devilishly irresistible – and easy to recommend.
I loved this book and the characters. The matchmakers place in the world left me wanting her to succeed and have a better life. I really liked that she didn’t completely fit into her world. This is the first novel by this author, but it will not be the last. I was pleasantly surprised with this story.
This was a very well written story with many plot twists. It was a complete adventure in the Regency class system. The only reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars was there were many unnecessary editorial errors. It appeared as if whoever edited the book either didn’t know what they were doing or just didn’t care about because it was very sloppily done.
Alexandra Evan is a matchmaker for the upper class. She is now running the business that her late mother started. Even though she makes her living making matches, she has sworn to never marry because she saw the pain her mother went through after Alexandra’s father passed away shortly before she was born.
Alexandra has a new client, Lady Frances Stewart, who’s father, the Earl of Cladborough. The Earl is very anxious to get Lady Frances married to a suitable candidate by the end of the year. Lady Frances wants someone to share her life with, to talk with as well as raise a family. Alexandra agrees to help Lady Frances but she doesn’t have anyone suitable at that moment.
Alexandra arranges to go to the Almack where she not only gets more clients but meets the Dowager Duchess of Gatterlen, who’s son, Maxwell Hayes, Duke of Gatterlen, has finally agreed to let his mother find him a suitable bride.
Alexandra arranges to be introduced to the Duchess and offers her services to find his bride. And she has a suitable bride in mind, Lady Frances. The Duchess agrees to arrange a meeting with the Duke to discuss the possibility if him courting Lady Frances. They seem to be suited in theory, what could go wrong?
There are lots of plotlines in this book, not just the possible courtship. And lots of characters that go from very minor in the beginning to becoming crucial to the storylines.
I received an ARC to read and give an honest review. You will enjoy this book. I know I did.
Can a matchmaker vowing to never marry and a Duke unwilling to marry somehow come together and find love?
Alexandra Evans is the owner of Evans United Hearts matchmaking agency. It is a very successful business as she matches couples well. She herself has never wanted to fall in love because of the pain she saw in her late mother who lost her husband before Alexandra was born. Maxwell, the Duke of Gatterlen did not wish to marry but knew it was his reponsibility to produce an heir as his younger brother would never be able to become a Duke. As luck would have it; she has been given the task to find him a suitable wife. Upon their first meeting Alexandra loses her temper at his phrase of all this being a “farce” and only being a business arrangement. It infuriates her that he would be so casual and unfeeling concerning marriage. He is immediately drawn to her because she speaks her mind no matter their status in life and enjoyrs her fiery spirit and delights in provoking her. As both are required to be present during the Duke’s courtship of the Lady Frances; whom Alexandra matched together, they find they have feelings for each other. The Duke’s mother is appalled as she considers commoners not suitable for upper society. Can Maxwell and Alexandra overcome all this and find their happily after ever? Once again, Patricia Haverton doesn’t dissappoint the reader. I love the way she describes this era of time and she stitches a rich tapestry of words as each character comes to life. I highly recommend this book.
“Perfectly Mismatched with the Duke” by Patricia Haverton
What a wild ride is this story. I received a free ARC from the author for an honest review. So here are my thoughts. A sweet clean Regency romance with suspense and a bit of mystery all rolled into one adventure. I did enjoy my time with Alexandra, Maxwell and the other characters of this story. If the description caught your eye, then I think you will enjoy this story as much as I dd. Happy Reading ! !
A simple storyline. Delightful, flirtatious and enjoyable. I had wondered about the title and if it would match the story and it does. A marriage matchmaker mismatches a duke. She, Alexandra, tries to match Maxwell, Duke of Gatterlen with a young lady best suited for Maxwell’s best friend an impoverished Viscount. It is easy to look up to Alexandra. She is a self-made businesswoman, taught by the best, her mother, and is making it on her own. Maxwell is a decent fellow. Few friends, but the ones he does have he would move heaven and earth for. He is down-to-earth and respects his fellow man regardless of station. His mother on the other hand does not. There are plenty of unpredictable twists and turns in the story and the ending is quite dramatic and surprising. A very good read.
