Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school… again. And that’s the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he’s angered a few of them. Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy and … and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus’s stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves. With cover art from the major motion picture, this first installment of Rick Riordan’s best-selling series is a non-stop thrill-ride and a classic of mythic proportions.

BEST BOOK EVER!!!!
This is in all one of the best fantasy series’s I’ve ever read-no doubt about it. From the sarcastic narrative of Percy Jackson, to the action-packed story, Rick Riordan throws in more than just a few twists. And one of the best things? There’s a sequel series! If you love fantasy, Rick Riordan’s multiverse will keep you occupied for literal …
For those of you that would like to know where the movie comes from, here is the book. I read this a long time ago and have reread it a few times since then. It is on my short list for kids to read. With good action and character development it starts an excellent series that weaves mythology and the modern world. A truly enjoyable book.

I fairly enjoyed this. I admit that I have seen both of the Percy Jackson movies prior to reading this. I was oddly surprised by how much the movie differed from the book. No clue why since that is usually the case. I have a feeling that I would have enjoyed this one much more if I had actually read it when I …

I really loved this book, and it was the one that got me interested in other books.
The Lightning Thief is the book that made me like reading. Fascinating!
This book is one of my childhood friends. The way the author portrays normal kids’ problems and mixed them with mythology makes it very entertaining and educational and makes you relate to the characters…at certain level of course, you don’t…you don’t have to deal with a mythological bipolar family of gods. The story is so new and endearing …
Books are so much better than the movies!!
I was lent this book by my granddaughter Rosie, and valuing the strategy of sharing your great reads with others, I thanked her warmly and began it promptly. If you know pre-teen reader of either gender with an interest in myth and adventure, you would do one a kindness by recommending this item. It was published in 2005, so science-addicted youth …
This review works for the entire series.
I’ve always been super interested in Greek mythology. I can name the Twelve Olympians off the top of my head at the drop of a hat. If you’ve read my book review for ‘The Dark Wife’ by Sarah Diemer, you know I love these kinds of books. I think that reading the Percy Jackson series was just fuel to the fire …
