“It reminds me of Meg Cabot’s Mediator series…but with two ghosts…and psychics…and serial killers.” – Candice, ReviewAs far as apartments go, roommates Stella and Charlotte “Bronte” believe theirs to be just fine. Sure, they hate taking the stairs up to the third floor, especially after grocery shopping. And yes, the apartment staff could be a bit nicer. All things considered though, it’s not a … nicer. All things considered though, it’s not a bad place to live.
Then they realize it’s haunted.
Which isn’t all that bad, really. Cyril and Oliver are polite, charming, and respectful. Sure, they have to get used to seeing shadows in the corner of their eyes or hearing voices whispering from out of nowhere. But at least there aren’t cockroaches in the kitchen and the neighbors aren’t loud.
Things seem positively hunky-dory. Until Oliver and Cyril begin seeing shadows, hearing growls. Then all four are left wondering: can ghosts be haunted themselves?

“Perception” marks the start to the “Apparition Investigations” a paranormal fantasy series by Eliza Lainn, which follow the adventures of Stella and Bronte (Charlotte), two girls on their twenties, and their encounters with the supernatural.
An interesting read, good structured, that awakes memories of weekly tv soaps and offers an easy-to-follow pastime and entertainment. The book contains two different adventures (cases) ‘Villanova Apartments” and “Hell’s Gate’, each of them could be an independently book on its own, the former is twenty-one chapters long, while the later have twenty chapters, both together encompass 375 pages.
In “Villanova Apartments”, Stella & Bronte discover that the apartment they are living in, is not as standard as they might think, but it’s in fact haunted by Cyrill and Oliver, two rather nice and charming ghosts, the problem begins with the real nasty ghost haunting those two nice guys. The story is easy-to-read, with enjoyable characters, the ghost trying to interact with the girls are the stuff or more than a lol, and the girls’ response allows for very amusing situations.
“Hell’s Gate” is very different story, in which Rose secures Stella and her friends help to look into the disappearance of Esperanza Gomez, a fifteen-year-old girl whose family thinks have been kidnapped by ghost in Hell’s Gate. As the case develops Stella and her friends have not only to find Esperanza and vanquish the ghost by also keep the police – who are already tied in the investigation – none the wiser.
Perception by Eliza Lainn is a wonderful story that I have had the privilege to read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series written by a brand new author that I have fallen in love with and can not wait to read book number two in this wonderful series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and paranormal romance.

Perception: Apparition Investigations, Book 1, my first read from author Eliza Lainn, and the first book in the Apparition Investigation Series. Character & plot development were great. I look forward to reading more in this series and from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Stella and Charlotte are best friends and roommates. Then they learn they are not alone. Cyril and Oliver are ghosts and Stella can hear them and Charlotte can see them. This then leads to further adventures as there is another entity that shows up and it isn’t nice like Cyril and Oliver. With ghosts helping to protect them the girls are going to figure out how to get rid of this entity. What a fun read! I am excited to see how this series moves forward. This was fun to read for sure.
3.5 stars
Case #1: Villanova Apartments – 4 stars
At first it appeared like rose might catch Stella and Noah is a compromising situation. Fortunately, that didn’t occur. Unfortunately, the relationships among the three girlfriends became rather stressed out. The story approaches but never seems to cross the line into horror. Overall a good story.
Case #2: Hell’s Gate – 3 stars
Noah turned into even more of a sleaze bag coward making the story considerably less enjoyable. Bronte was missing for most of the story as well. Stella and Rose floundered around solving the mystery but only with Noah’s help.
I received a copy of this book as a gift. This is my honest review.
This is an awesome storyline. I love the character dynamics and how they play off if each other. The roommates are learning about there invisible roommates. One can see and one can hear them. The cases are scary with thrills and chills. Things are not always what they seem. If you like a big sandwich of plans and plots then take a big bite of this book. I am so excited to see what’s going on with these characters in the next book. Received ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
The story line and character work were okay. With a little more refining and editing this book has the potential of being great.
