When Penny and Robert meet again on Christmas Eve, will their childhood love bloom into something more? They only have the Twelve Days of Christmas to find out.
Robert Ellsworth, born the son of a wealthy gentleman, is now a mere steward in the service of another. While his position brings him satisfaction, it does not make him much of a matrimonial catch. It hardly matters, as Robert’s heart … It hardly matters, as Robert’s heart has long belonged to his childhood friend. When a chance meeting brings them face to face on Christmas Eve, he cannot bring himself to hope that she feels the same.
When she lost her parents years before, Penelope Clark also lost contact with her dearest friend. Visiting the community where she grew up, Penny is taken aback by how handsome Robert has grown, and how little her girlhood infatuation has diminished. But when a Christmas Ball leads to a mistletoe kiss him, she finds herself as much in love as ever before. Unfortunately for her, Robert confesses his heart already belongs to a mysterious woman.
Through the Twelve Days of Christmas, Penny and Robert each make a wish for the other’s happiness. Will they realize only confessing their hearts will grant those wishes before their time together is spent?

I loved this return to the Branches of Love series! What a sweet Christmas story with plenty of heart. I was one of (probably) many who asked to hear more of Robert after reading Courting the Vicar’s Daughter, this was worth the wait, but now I want to see Robert’s brother’s story. He deserves some payback for all the times he teased Robert. I enjoyed the conversations between old and new characters and how they built upon what has gone before.
I think this could be read as a stand alone book, but I really enjoyed the connections to characters I loved in previous books.
This is another well written novel by author Sally Britton and a fun Regency read placed in a Christmas time setting. Robert Ellsworth is the steward of Harry Devon. Having fallen on a bit of a hard time, Rob is working below the station he was born into. Miss Penny Clark returns to the village of her childhood and is happy to see her dear friend Rob, only to have all her feelings of youth and love return to her. This cute love story is full of misunderstandings as the two love each other so deeply, they almost miss out on each other by trying to make sure the other will be happy. I definitely enjoyed this sweet novella.
This sweet Christmas novella is a wonderful addition to Sally’s Branches of Love series. Robert and Penny reconnect after years apart and though both yearn to voice their true feelings, they each have reasons for hesitating. Sweet story of two genuine people finding happiness with each other that will give you all the Christmas romance feels.
I received an advanced copy but am voluntarily leaving a review of my own opinions.
The characters are so well done that it seemed like w were touching base with some old friends.
The story played out very sweetly.
Another sweet romance from Sally Britton. This was a lovely story to read for Christmas time. I loved both the main characters and only wanted them to finally communicate their hidden affection for each other. So the ending was a sweet moment. It is a quick read, perfect for an evening by the fire.
No sex, language or violence.
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I thought this was a sweet story and a perfect Christmas story. I liked how we were able to get a glimpse into the way the Christmas season was celebrated. The H was a minor character in a previous book and I thought it was wonderful he got his own story. I really liked Penny and her interactions with the H. This was a fun and quick read for me with a satisfying end. The romance felt believable and good dialogue. If looking for a nice Christmas read this is a good one.
I love the Branches of Love series and it was so fun to revisit it in this sweet Christmas novella. It took me a little while to place Robert, but once I did I was so happy to read his story. I love the relationship he and Penny had and how easy it was to rekindle that friendship in some ways after so many years apart. Penny and Robert are such sweet good people and I love that they got their HEA. I had thought this series was over, but now I can see a few more that will hopefully be added to this great series.
Sally Britton’s characters are so realistic. How many of us are guilty of making an assumption of what someone else is thinking and then acting accordingly? This is true of Robert and Penny. This is a fun story of two old friends reuniting but making assumptions about what the other is thinking. This almost keeps them from having their happily ever after. This was an enjoyable story.
