Penny is hell bent on revenge on the man who caused her to flee France as a teenager with little more than the clothes on her back. She lost everything, her friends, her home and her family. She is desperate to find love and to go back home. The Nazis have occupied her country. To return now means she will risk arrest, imprisonment, hideous torture and perhaps even death. Her British friends and … and adoptive family don’t understand her need to go back.
It’s the second year of the war. Britain stands alone. Civilians face death and destruction on a daily basis through the Blitz. Penny throws herself into her translation job in order to forget about the man that broke her heart. Yearning to do more, she convinces her bosses to drop her behind enemy lines in Northern France as a spy. Working with the resistance in the darkness of occupied France her bravery, skills and resourcefulness are tested to the limit.
Now a trained killer, she comes face to face with the man she holds responsible for the loss of everything she held dear. Will she let revenge destroy any chance of happiness the future may hold? Or will she give in to the love she has waited a lifetime to find?

I had a friend who was a spy for the Allies in WWII so I wanted to see a story with female spies. I liked the story, but I felt that the main character could have been stronger. I wanted to know more about after the war, in this sense it was a good story since I didn’t want the story to end.
I think I’ve read all of these but not sure. I’ve read up to and including this one. I got hooked on this series from the first book onward. I like the time period, probably because I was born in 45. They really held my attention.
This is a wonderful story filled with tragedy and hope.
loved the story and characters, Learned a lot about the war and Hitler etc,
Enjoyed learning about the historical events within the war. P
So often we forget that there were French citizens fighting the Nazis even though their government had given up. Around the world, fighting forces refused Petin’s order to stand down. And within France, the underground materialized. Though this is fiction, it reads like a peek at how ordinary citizens marshalled courage in spite of the dangers, while maintaining ‘normal’ lives under Nazi occupation. A good read!
A French refuge returns to France as a spy behind enemy lines. She helps to win the war, finds closure for her tragic past, and goes forward into the future with her true love. Ending was too pat,
This is the 3rd book I read from this author in this series. I think I missed one but all the books could stand on its own so if I find the other books I will read them anyhow. Looking forward to it. This one is about the aftermath of the holocaust, and Jew’s in Israel and love.
Enjoyed history plus page turning novel.
I didn’t realise this was book 2 of a trilogy, so I now have book 1 to read.
Such a good book that was very informative.
It was easy to read but once I started it I couldn’t put it down.
Will definitely read more of her books.
I enjoyed story, liked characters and read pretty quickly because story line was good, flowed smoothly.
I liked Penny as a no nonsense girl. Liked the people and the story line from start to finish. Would recommend it
Poor writing and story development
Not super well-written
Great beginning. Didn’t care for the personality change of the main character. I understood it to a certain point but I think the author went to far.
A very good adaption of World War II. The story line was logical and easy to follow. A good read.
I really enjoyed this novel about WWII. It was a page turner and very easy to read. I enjoyed the descriptions about English aristocracy. I highly recommend it.
A good read.
Made WW11 and the difficulties people had then really come alive. Especially the women.. and how amazing everything had started changing from the turn of the century through that era. Could not put it down
