Leaving behind the rural charms of Finnshire, Miss Penelope Fairweather arrives in London with hope in her heart and a dream in her eye. The dowager, no less, has invited her for a season in London, where she will attempt to catch a husband.
Thus begins our heroine’s tale as she attempts to tackle the London season with all her rustic finesse. Unfortunately, her rustic finesse turns out to be as … out to be as delicate as a fat bear trying to rip apart a honeycomb infested with buzzing bees.
What follows is a series of misadventures, love affairs, moonlit balls, fancy clothes, fake moustaches, highwaymen, sneering beauties, pickpockets, and the wrath of a devilishly handsome duke.

This story is firmly planted in two common Regency tropes, that of love developing between the dour guardian and his charge and a country mouse let loose on London society. Rather than overturning these tropes, the book embellishes them with …
What a hoot!
You know you’re in for fun as soon as you meet Miss Penelope Winifred Rose Spebbington Fairweather and her pet goat Lady Bathsheba!
Can’t wait to read the rest of the Fairweather Sisters series!
Penelope is a super fun (and funny) Regency romance and I was constantly laughing at Penelope’s naivety and uncomfortable scrapes. I hate finding myself in situations such as she found herself in, but it was refreshing to be able to laugh along with her, and at her, as I realized that it’s not the end of the world to be so thoroughly …
At one point in the book, the H says, “You, Miss Fairweather, are more than a little strange.” For me, those words kind of sum up the book. I think the basic premise of the story was a good one but the “zany” was a bit over the top for me. Had the attempts at humor been more subtle and the h been more believably accident prone, I think I would …
I couldn’t make it through the first chapter
Kept me laughing all the way through with her ridiculous characters and zany plot.
Rarely do I read a book twice as there are so many wonderful books and so little time. However, this is one that I have now read twice. If you like the Tammy movies staring Sandra Dee, this book is for you. The cover gives no indication of the humor in this book. It is adorable and laugh out loud funny.
Anne of Green Gables meets Regency romance, with a touch of Ever After. Very enjoyable.
Smiled my way through the whole book. I devoured it much to quickly. Loved it!!
Apparently it was meant to be funny but totally stupid describes my opinion of this dreadful attempt of writing a humorous book.
It was just not my cup of tea.
Such a cute and funny love story. Made me laugh out loud!
This book had me laughing out loud. Thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I really enjoyed reading this book because it was romantic without being cheesy, the characters were well written as was the plot. It was also full of well written humour and dialogue and it didn’t follow the same over used storyline of most 18th century regency novel’s.
Silly.
Too whimsical for me. Stopped at her entrance with a goat.
Delightful.
Far fetched, juvenile
Great read!! The heroine is funny, unpredictable, and likable. I loved this so much I bought the other two books in the series immediately after.
The ridiculous situations Penelope gets herself in are hysterical. Any young woman that goes to Regency London with a pet goat, will undoubtably get into funny situations.
