Torn between brothers, torn between worlds. All I wanted was a fresh start when I left my abusive ex-boyfriend behind in Austin. What I got? A den of wolves. No, I mean literal wolves—moon worship, fangs and all.Sebastian and Victor? One’s troubled and dangerous, the other’s as overprotective as he is overpowered, and they’re both alpha males. Speaking of alphas, each of them thinks I’m his … each of them thinks I’m his “fleur.” Which I’m guessing is another term for “omega.”
If I wanted anything to do with the wolf pack or its super-exclusive “gentleman’s club,” I’d be flattered that the twins are fighting over me like a scrap of meat, but I’m not that kind of guy no matter what they insist I am and there’s nothing gentlemanly about the wolves who run the Lodge.
Problem is, they’re not the only ones who are after me. Keeping the wolves at bay is hard enough, but when a vampire from my past comes calling, I’ll have to choose sides—and a mate—just to survive.

An absolute must read for anyone who wants to fall into a world where werewolves are dangerous and wild, and vampires are so dark their pull might just be deemed, “demonic.” Where humans are as oblivious as always, and the pages are so enchanted, they practically turn themselves.
Sometimes it’s hard to know who is the hero and who is the villain. Just who is the hunter and who the prey? One second, you are cheering for one character and the next you want to smack him/ them/ her, in the head. **sigh… However, isn’t that part of the charm of most good stories?
Communication is not very high on the list with any of these guys, because they each feel they must keep the others safe. I cannot tell you the times I grumbled and growled out loud because of miscommunication or the simple lack of communication at all. These guys needed a den mother very very badly. Hahahaaa… I must stress however, I did love each of the characters Abernathy created. You could envision each one as you immersed yourself in their world. I know for me, I wanted to erase the trauma from the past and hold each one of the main MCs close to ensure they were safe for the future. What can I say, I am a momma-hen at heart, don’t judge.
As the story unfolds it centers around a young man, Remus, and we learn at the outset that he has left his old life behind and that of a traumatic past with an ex-boyfriend. Memories are very important in this story, and Abernathy weaves them beautifully throughout, so the reader is able to see and understand the importance of Remus in the lives of Sebastian and Victor.
Joel Abernathy has created a dark and suspenseful world filled with enough tantalizing beasts to fulfill all our fantasies adding just enough erotic passion to sink our teeth in and keep us begging for more.

Enticing look into Kingdom of Night
—>>> Remus Cole is starting over at Eastern Washington University, hopefully to leave his abusive ex-boyfriend behind once and for all. Making fast friends with fellow-classmate-turned-roommate Arthur, he gets pulled along against with a quest to visit the Lodge on THE most coveted time of the year, the Alpha’s Pet Contest, to become an offering to the mysterious Alpha of the Wolf Pack. The next thing he knows, Remus is more than knee deep into the world of werewolves, Doms, soulmates, psychic powers, and other mysteries he cannot ignore or even begin to understand.
Pulled like a new chew toy between the powerful twins Sebastian and Victor of the Wolf Pack and then finding out that he may still have a tangible tie to his old life, Remus struggles with new feelings for two men as well as where he can fit into this new puzzle of a life which appears to be his new reality.
There is much murkiness to explore with all the secondary characters we meet in Pendulum, and I look forward to seeing the roles they will play as Remus struggles to make sense of what truth he has learned thus far.
Gripping! Fellas, stay away from my neck of the woods!

I don’t remember what I expected when I picked up this book but it was so much more! So many twists and mysteries: this is not your typical MM paranormal romance. The philosophical and psychological discussions slowed it down at times, but there’s so much action and suspenseful build-up and a real stunner at the end. I am looking forward to the next volume.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I was totally enthralled by this dark & devious MMM shifter romance, it certainly caught my attention & kept it until the last page was turned. It has a well-paced story-line & plot filled with unexpected occurrences & events. The characters are unique with complex personalities, some of the characters displayed determination combined with some deviousness to get their goals, while another character continues to struggle with acceptance in a new & unfamiliar world of shifters.
There is: a young male college student (Remus Cole) who wants a fresh start after he left his abusive ex-boyfriend (Jeff) behind in Austin, a new college friend (Arthur) who invites him to go & watch a competition (Alpha’s Pet Contest), a man who is very interested in Remus (Sebastian), his brother (Victor), their alpha (Ulric), a conniving mother (Sarah), wolf shifters, vampires, twist & turns, intrigue, suspense, secrets, mystery, blood play, BDSM, danger, threats, enemies, violence, conflict, murder, death, misunderstandings, manipulations, brotherly conflict, discovery, confrontations, memories, abuse, devious plans, desperation, injuries, decisions, rejection, guilt, accusation & steamy scenes. Sadly this book does end with a cliffhanger & I will be waiting with great anticipation for the next book from this talented author.
I really loved this dark, erotic, emotional supernatural story. The characters were complex, well-developed, and interesting. There is suspense, mystery, drama, rivalry, and plenty of twists and surprises. I’m usually not a fan of cliff-hanger endings, but we’re forewarned in the book blurb, so it was okay, and the story is well worth the wait for more.
I received a complimentary ARC. This is my honest, voluntary review.
Not all Monsters Hide in the Dark
Looking for a sweet werewolf romance with a Happy Ever After? This is so not your book.
Remus is just looking to leave the past behind. He’s left his abusive Ex, his Ex’s power-mad father, and Austin in the rear view.
But now he’s got new problems. His Ex has his old academic records locked down until he pays massive bills from a revoked scholarship. His new professor has a reputation as a hard ass. He takes pity on a classmate and winds up with a roommate who likes leather, a lot. And when said roommate drags him to The Lodge, well things don’t improve…
Now he’s caught between twin werewolf brothers, who both think he’s their mate. One of them marks him as such, starting a countdown clock to the harvest moon. And he’ll either transform or die.
Or will he? More figures emerge from the past and Remus is just trying to survive.
Part one of a trilogy and already I want more.
Characters and hidden motives abound. A dark broody read that will keep you up with all the plot twist and turns.
Full disclosure, I received a free copy of an earlier version of this story from a giveaway last fall, and also received a copy of this version in exchange for an honest review.
This isn’t the usual book that I would read but I thought I’d give this book a chance at the blurb sounded interesting. This is also a new author for me so I wasn’t sure how his writing would be. I am pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed reading this book. The author has come up with a great plot and seems to effortlessly tell the story in such a way that I was drawn in and became emotionally invested in the characters. The characters are well developed and likable, not perfect but not overtly nasty. This is the first book in a series and does end with a cliffhanger so be prepared for that. Also, there are some triggers in this story due to the dark nature of the plot, again just something to be aware of whilst considering investing in this series. If you enjoy dark and have no issues with BDSM and M/M then this is a wonderful series and I’d encourage you to snap it up and get comfy.

Remus is living more on the edge than he knows.
of course, he is essentially dying on the edge as well.
a tangled story of an orphaned boy who survived an abusive childhood, a really abusive relationship, to wind up across the country in a supernaturally fated relationship.
awfully, his alleged soul mates does not know or understand the rape scenarios that lead Remus to his worse self.
dark and tangled life and death romantic bonds.
hidden connections with friends and mentors

I would rate this 4.25 stars.
This is a trilogy and the first two books end with cliffhangers, so you have been warned. If you follow my reviews, you know I hate cliffhangers, but there is a definate story arc and these have already been written since this is a rerelease under a new pen name, so I decided to take the plunge. This series has dark themes and explicit content so pay attention to the trigger warnings and tags. (As an aside, there is nothing hardcore in this book in terms of BDSM, but I have used the author’s tags which may be for the whole trilogy.)
Remus is looking to start over in Washington after having left Texas, to get away from his rich controlling ex-boyfriend. He meets Arthur, who is a member of a high class BDSM club run by the Wolf Pack. There is a contest to be Alpha’s Pet that Remus enters without meaning to and quickly gets in over his head. The whole situation is odd and gets more odd by the minute. It’s also a lot of fun as both Remus and I tried to figure out what is happening. Remus meets the twins Sebastion and Victor, sparking angst and jealousy in Victor as Sebsatian has marked them as mates without telling Remus or giving him a choice.
Although Victor seems creepy at first, in many ways he would be a better match for Remus. The love between Sebastian and Remus is too soon and unbelievable. The sex scenes between them are lacking something. The author does a good job of seesawing between the three of them in a love trangle, but it would have been a great job with more time devoted to figuring out why Sebastian and Remus fall in love in the first place. Having more depth here would have really given an emotional oomph to what happens later in the story. The author is great at building the tension like a horror novel. Also the sexual tension between Victor and Remus is well done in places, but could have been better developed with more scenes. Here, the short looming deadline could be seen as working against the story, but a few more scenes with Victor as Master would have gone a long way. This may be a personal preference as some readers may like the fast pacing, which does add urgency. By the time the extent of Remus’s past is revealed, there is yet another impediment to them being together.
This brings us to the vampires. The origin myth for the wolves and vampires is completely awesome. It also helps develop the mythos of both cultures which we’ll see more of moving forward. I feel like there is a little hypocrisy about the way the wolves view the vampires in terms of death and violence although the wolves do seem…saner, mostly. The last part of the book is OTT (Over The Top). It is both horrifying and fun. No one is left untouched and the readers’ perception of each charcter will completely change by the end. I think I know what will happen–there is plenty of foreshadowing. For me to be happy about Remus ending up with Sebastian in any fashion, there will have to be some major character development. Having said that Remus has some problems of his own to fix. I had wondered why the author spent so much time on Remus’s professor and roommate, only to seemingly drop that portion of the story, but they popped up later when I least expected it and will definitely be more involved in the next books. My last little thing is that I didn’t actually like the switch in POV in the Epilogue, even though I acknowledge that it helps set up a dilemma for the next book. Without giving away too much, there is a good reason that Remus’s POV may not be desirable at this point in the story arc. It’s a good thing I only have to wait a few weeks to see what happens.
