With a lovable heroine and riveting hero, the story bounces off the page and into your heart. … heart. Magnificent as always – Chloe Walsh International best-selling author
A refreshing reminder that I’m not over the hill…just over hot flushes, hot wax and ex-husbands – Beverley from the Co-Op
I’m Katie Grainger, I’m 45 years old, a divorced mother of three, slightly annoying at times, but always loveable, kids and I can wet myself at the drop of hat. Actually, it’s more like a sneeze or a cough than a drop of a hat, but whatever the reason, let’s just say I am forever grateful for the invention of the ultra-thin panty pad.
I don’t have a bad life, there’s book club where I discuss the menopause with my friends, there’s Clubbercise where I wet myself and dance like my mother with my friend Mandy and there’s my work which is pretty boring, where I get to learn a lot about reality TV from my much younger co-workers. All of which makes me content – yes, I’d like more sex, but who wouldn’t when their castle hadn’t been breached for four years.
Do I have regrets in my life?
Yes, I do. I regret that my ex-husband, Carl, and I didn’t realise we’d grown apart sooner. I regret not trying more online dating when I first got divorced and I regret that my youngest, Charlie, feels torn between pleasing me and his dad. What I don’t regret is my bag breaking and spilling everything over the pizza place floor, the night Dex Michaels was in there ordering a 9inch meat feast.
Pelvic Flaws is the story of one woman’s struggle with hot sweats, mood swings and perilously poor pelvic floor muscles. It’s the story of Dex, who thinks all those things about Katie are funny and adorable. It’s the story of a romance that could turn into something big. It’s the story of what might be the love affair of the century, potentially being ruined by the baggage that neither of them knew existed.

If you’re going to purchase Pelvic Flaws by Nikki Ashton and you’re a lady over the age of 40, I suggest to purchase a maxi pack of Tena lady first off – you’re going to need them. Also don’t read this in the waiting room of your psychiatrist’s office. Your persistent guffawing to yourself might give them cause to section you.
That said, please don’t let that put you off buying it. It’s freaking hilarious. It’s easily the funniest book I’ve read this year. I work for a well-known pizza company and I’m never looking at their twisted dough balls again in the same light.
The cast of characters is brilliant, from sexy silver fox, Dex, to incorrigible Katie with no filter and a talent for getting herself into scrapes, to the staff at the tattoo parlour, Katie’s complex kids and weird but loveable mother and even her ex and his wife. They all blend together into a modern twenty-first century family of sorts who love and hate each other in equal measure.
The story has enough angst to keep you intrigued but not so much that the characters are too stupid to live. The scrapes Katie gets into are believable (They’re the sort of thing that happens to me – sadly without meeting the gorgeous silver fox so far). The laughs keep coming, and coming, and coming. A bit like Katie and Dex, eventually.
This book is fabulous. If you don’t try it, you’re missing out. If you’re a woman who has passed 40 and has a sense of humour you’ll totally get this book and empathise with Katie. I feel Katie’s pain and anxiety. Katie lives a little in us all and I was sad when the book ended. I want to know more. I want to meet Katie and Dex and go to the pub with them. And that’s the sign of a great book.
I’ve read a few books by Nikki Ashton now and though I loved the others, this is now my favourite. Buy it now and you won’t be sorry.
Live this book! No one writes quite like this.
The perfect mix of laughter, giggles and heart.
4.5 stars
Ok, so I am 35 and even if i can’t relate with some of the events and situations that our heroine goes through, i love this book so much.
The writing and everything that is said in the book from Kattie’s outbursts towards her kids to all her relationships with her friends and even Dex, made me laugh out loud so much and she seems so real and true to her feelings and thoughts that i can see her as one of my friends.
Being a single mother of 3 kids and going through a certain moody period in life, one can get frustrated and unsure of her feelings, but Dex is the sexy tatted American silver fox that wanted a quiet life in the UK with no strings attached that will fall for Kattie without wanting.
Said in dual pov, i loved this romance at any age because love doesn’t care about that, and will recommend this book to all my friends.
Katie and Dex were hilarious in this book. Katie is the kind of woman you can relate to in your 40’s. Dex was hot and thought Katie was adorable and cute with all her quirks. This is a great rom-com read. Pick it up today.
Another cracking read from this author!
“His accent was broad and sexy and made me want to put on a pair of Daisy Dukes and ride across a ranch, on a horse called Champion.”
Katie Grainger is middle-aged, menopausal, and has three kids. She hasn’t really been with anyone in years -since her divorce. When she meets sexy, tattooed, silver-fox Dex Michaels in the local pizza place, she does so in spectacular embarrassing style!
“This woman is like no one I’ve ever met before. She’s funny and cute, has no f*cking filter on how to be around a man she’s attracted to, and she’s sexy without even realizing it.”
Dex Michaels is a coveted tattoo artist. He’s ripped, absolutely gorgeous and has a sexy Texan drawl to boot! From the moment he meets Katie, he’s pretty much smitten but he needs to overcome her insecurities and a difficult ex, and hope that she gives in to their undeniable attraction that could turn into something he wasn’t even looking for.
“I wanted everything with her. I wanted it all and half measures would never be enough.”
Absolutely adored this story and loved that it was about a couple the same age as me, making it wholly relatable. Katie was gloriously awkward, unfiltered and unconsciously funny. And, OH.MY.GOD! Dex! I’ve got my own silver fox but, darlin’, we all need a bit of Dex in our lives! He’s so freakin’ gorgeous and thoughtful, and hella hot!! He had plenty of charm and manners, and I loved the way he pushed through Katie’s insecurities and made her feel beautiful and desired. He was honest, earnest and so in the moment!
Gaaah! Fabulous read!

Soon as I started this I was hooked. Nikki Ashton brought her A game with this hilarious, entertaining, swoon-worthy read.
Oh how I loved Katie, she was a real woman with beautiful flaws. A divorced mother of 3 trying to find out who she is at the stage in her life. You could so relate to her as Nikki did a fantastic job with Katie making her so real.
Dex is a hot AF silver fox, A Texan living in the UK. When he first meets Katie I was honestly in hysterics. I was both amused and mortified on her behalf.
This was definitely my favourite read from Nikki Ashton so far so I can’t wait to see what she brings us next
Pelvic Flaws is the second in the ‘An American In The UK’ by Nikki Ashton and it’s another comedic genius. For women of a certain age and disposition, I’m here to give you a warning first hand. Be prepared for an eventualities that this book will bring forth.
The leading lady has the same problem and well… let’s just leave it there- shall we.
But if you want a hilarious, laugh yourself silly book, then this is the one for you.
It’s got it all.
Fun with food. A sexy silver fox, a sassy woman who knows what she wants and doesn’t let anything stop her.
That being said, it’s not all light-hearted and jokes. There’s a bit of emotional turmoil and the story keeps you interested and turning the pages. Everyone will be like Katie at some point in their life. She just opens it up for all to see. Those of us already at ‘that’ point will laugh and cry along with her.
This was a fun, easy to read, and relate to story, well worth giving a go. So, get out on-line and grab it today.
What a great book!! I fell in love with Nikki Ashton in ‘Do You Do Extras?’ and I was so excited for this book! Great characters, a plot that was flawless and amazing writing! I fell in love with Katie and Dex right away! Katie may be my spirit animal! Nikki Ashton is my newest favorite RomCom author! FIVE STARS!!
Laugh out loud hilarious!! What do you get when you combine menopause, kids, hormones and love? YOU get the perfectly heart warming story about Katie and Dex. Both have loads of baggage to get through, but they do this with inner strength and happiness. I never knew you could have so much fun with menopause. A definite must read!!
When divorcee, Katie, meets silver fox hottie, Dex, she ends up making the worst impression… at least she thinks she does. A few words exchanged over a broken purse, and Dex has never been happier that he chose to go get pizza. Katie is busy dealing with her children, her hormones that are all over the place, and her insecurities. Dex has never been married, and doesn’t have any children but there is something about Katie that just keeps drawing him in more and more. Will Katie’s insecurities drive Dex away?
This book had me laughing like a loon at some bits. I found Katie’s character completely relatable, and understood her feelings and thoughts at certain points. I really enjoyed the story. I did feel like the ending was a bit rushed at the end, I would have liked to see some of the stuff that happened behind the scenes. One thing that irked me was Dex’s dialogue wasn’t consistent, mostly he came off as American, but there were times he came off as British. This had some ok naughty bits, TBH I kind of expect them to be a bit more than they were. Loads of drama, and some very humorous happenings. I give this 4 stars.
A funny, at times hilarious, read that will leave you wanting more when you’ve finished reading! At the beginning I was a bit fearful that the story wasn’t really going to be for me ‘cuz of the topic but damn I absolutely enjoyed this story! Even though I’m not there yet as a woman personally, I really felt the characters and what they were going through. A perfect read and one that you’ll definitely remember after you’ve finished it!
Katie is a newly divorced woman with kids and is feeling all out of sorts. She’s trying to find out who she really is, with menopause and all, without having to be a wife. With the help of her best friend, she will slowly get out in the world. When she meets Dex, the circumstances how they meet is just one for the books! She doesn’t think she’ll ever see him again but to her surprise they do and they hit it off. Finally she’ll see that what she had with her ex wasn’t all that good and slowly she’s becoming the woman she was always meant to be and maybe, just maybe, she’ll have a second chance on love with Dex…
I absolutely loved this one. Will put you in a good mood reading it. After being divorced she runs into a man who is not only got but sweet. One thing leads to another and he changes her. But will things and people get in the way? Great storyline. Amazing chemistry between every single character.Amazing touching moments. This was a great book from beginning to end. Extremely enjoyable.
I loved this book, so many funny laugh out loud moments!
Katie is 45, divorced with 3 children, her castle hasn’t been breached for 4 years and to top it all, it’s hot flush city as she’s going through the menopause. Her ex is an arse who has married a much younger woman, so her confidence is low. Then she meets Dex, in a takeaway pizza place and omg what a meeting it is!
Katie has no filter in an adorable way and Dex is just an absolute hot, wet dream of a guy. What some women have to go through is just brought to life in the best way here. Its not all plain sailing for these two fabulous characters, but if you need a pick me up, a giggle and a very sexy, tattoed Texan man, then I highly recommend this. 5 oops moment stars!
This funny romcom is perfect for a weekend read snuggled up on the sofa. I loved the banter between Dex and Katie and also the insight we get from Katie as she tackles the problems that arise from starting to date again in her mid 40’s as she sweats her way through the menopause. This story kept me rooted to the sofa as I was so engrossed In it and it had me in kinks of laughter. I loved all the characters and the story is very believable, there are a couple of twists I did’t see coming but they were perfect twists. I can’t wait to read more from this author .
I haven’t read the first book in this series but that was not a drawback at all. This book is clearly able to stand on its own!
I feel our intrepid heroines pain. Leaky bladder, hot sweats, itchiness – getting older is not glamourous and HRT probably causes as much damage as the symptoms do!
Katie is an absolute gem. Put upon mum of three kids with a crappy ex who has moved onto a new little family. She has good friends but the last things she is looking for is romance, she’d be happy with a companion. But as usual love finds you when you least look for it.
Dex is hunkalicious but a nice guy with it. He’s not up his own bum and looks after his staff well. He sets the terms of his “liaisons” early on and so far no broken hearts since he moved to Blighty. But with Katie he gets a glimpse of what could be a more permanent relationship and he’s not so sure he’s cut out for that.
Just as they settle in to their relationship, Dex is thrown for a loop and doesn’t know how to realign all the new responsibilities he has.
Whilst our leads are older than the usual romance leads, don’t let that put you off. Love and all its associates challenges are universal, these just come with some added “bonuses” that a few extra years and miles on the clock give you LOL! Brilliantly funny and real tugged on the heartstrings.
