‘You don’t know how significant you are. We need you.’No matter where she is, Deirdre feels out of place. So when a cult known as the Center contacts her, wanting her join up, she’s intrigued. They say a terrible war is coming, humanity is in danger and without explaining why, say she’s needed for the fight. Suddenly the chance to be spectacular is within her grasp. With the charismatic Myra as … charismatic Myra as the cult leader, and talk of prophecies and psychic abilities, Deirdre is soon seduced and ditches her humdrum life to join up.
Once inside, her understanding of the world shifts. She learns the truth about the elite, a secret organisation that has meddled with humanity since the beginning of time. The elite use entertainment and the media as a constant distraction to stop people from reaching their true potential. To free themselves of this conditioning, the followers must give up ‘excessive’ food and sleep. They also carry out increasingly bizarre rituals under the critical eye of the Captain, a minor leader of the new followers. He seems to take pleasure from turning them against one another.
Tensions increase. The followers gain odd new abilities, but bullying and hysteria also grow. Meanwhile Myra’s prophecies become increasingly extreme. As paranoia intensifies, Deirdre questions where the belief ends, and delusion begins.

This is definitely an interesting read that has the main character Deirdre becoming involved in a cult. She has felt alone and hasn’t found a place that she fits. The Center uses these feeling to bring her into their fold. I enjoyed reading this book for psychological aspects and reading Deirdre’s thought process. I also liked reading how Deirdre grew and changed. I did find that the beginning was a bit slow, but things soon picked up.
“No one ever said saving the human race would be all rainbows and teddy bears”. That’s a pretty deep statement and one that can convince others that they are on the right path . Isn’t that how all cults begin?
PEDDLING DOOMSDAY is a complex tale in it’s simplicity. A person with a strong personality has a thought, convinces others that it is the truth and has them tell others and so on and so on. This story feels like it could be our everyday truth with the way the world is right now, today. Everyone is looking for something. All it takes is one meglomaniac to gather a following and lies become truth.
This story is a departure from what I normally read. It was interesting to see the fictional thought process of the bland to follow the vibrant. At times, this story was scary. At other times it felt so true. I had to sit with it a bit before I could get my thoughts straight to write this review. I enjoyed the story for as much as I wanted to hate it. The characters are very complex and seeing the layers peeled back was fascinating. Mental illness, loneliness, lack of self worth. Ego, escalated self reliance, mental illness. Fiction that appears to be fact. This book is those things and more.
At the end or it all, I do recommend this book.

Peddling Doomsday By Petra Jacob is a mystery and psychological thriller about a woman whom runs a colt. This is my first book by this author and it definitely wont be my last. Once I got into it I couldn’t put it down. There are a few twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what happens next. This story will have you asking questions and trying to figure out the answers..Are you ready to dive into a world of unknown and cults?I highly recommend reading this book..I look forward to reading more from this author.
This story was intense and fascinating, this book opens up the world of cults and you feel like you understand a little bit about this world.
I enjoyed the way the story weaves through and you feel like you are within the story with them, the descriptions and information does make you really think, the suspense that you get in each chapter has you thinking you have figured it out and then something comes in left field and chances your mind set.
Although starting this book was a bit slow at first once you perceive you will not be disappointed, I felt the insight into the cult element of the story was in depth and interesting, it is great when you learn about the subject matter involved especially with the emotional manipulation against these lose souls was well written by the author.
This not my usual genre I read but I had to say I was intrigued, gripped and fascinated by the psychological aspect of the story and the shear page turning aspect of the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the mind meddle and twists of a good physiological drama.
Peddling Doomsday by Petra Jacob was a psychological thriller that drew you in and really got you thinking about how people are recruited into cults.
I’m going to start with that it took me a bit to get into this book. I did find it a bit drawn out at the start. But as it got more into the story, the main plot and the “teachings” I got hooked. It was more then a page turned it was interesting and it really got your mind thinking. It was like a inside look, not only on the inside, but it got you to see the mine set of the people that got “recruited”. And how everyone had a common link, that got them to that situation. It also read like a true crime documentary, doing it that way really made you feel like you were just a invisible bystanders, watching, seeing, not interacting. This not only made the read engaging, but addicting.
I have to say there were times that I wasn’t quiet sure if there was a supernatural element at play, but as you got through the clues and really looked into the speech patterns, you start to see what is actually going on. I’m not going to say anymore on that, because I don’t want to spoil this epic thriller for you.
So I will leave you with my high recommendation that this book will mess with your brain, having you second guessing, and it will bring you to a conclusion that will leave you shocked.
