Just enjoyed reading it ,
Hard to put down
I enjoyed this book. It’s not the first book I purchased by Angie Fox, but it is the first one I had a chance to read. I listened to the Audible verson of it. The reader, Tavia Gilbert, did an excellent job with the voices of the characters. I did have trouble understanding her a few times when she was speaking for the ghost of the French Inspector, but she did a good job with the French accent.
This was a very enjoyable book. I plan to read the other books in the series.
Verity is a sleuth who lives with the ghost of a gangster from the 1920s, Frankie. Frankie lets Verity into the world of ghosts because he needs her help to get an old dead detective’s ghost off his back. Verity also helps her human boyfriend, Ellis. Ellis is a detective and Verity aids him on his real cases despite his mother’s hatred of her and his brother being her ex. This is a cute little fantasy-mystery that was fun to read.
I love Angie Foxes books. She is one of my favorites. Pecan Pies & dead guys was, fantastic.
I love the ghost. I always read right thru on all all her books. This was terrific.
All of his series i super. I look forward to every book and am sorry when I am done with it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book provided by NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I don’t remember where I was in September of 2018 but I somehow missed this story at my local bookstore. Pecan Pies and Dead Guys, by Angie Fox, is book 7 in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. I’ve enjoyed this read so much I’m now off to find the rest of the series. Pecan Pies works as a stand alone even though it’s part of a series. I didn’t realize that until I’d finished the book, there wasn’t a need to backtrack, it was all well taken care of by the author.
Our lead is Verity Long, former graphic artist turned ghost hunter. Her world has done a 180 several times over but she’s still standing. She’s got guts, even when she scared spitless she pushes on. I like that about her. Her current boyfriend is hot policeman Ellis Wydell. Ellis happens to be a brother of her ex-fiancée. His mother hates her, to say the least, but she and Ellis are in love and to heck with other opinions. Ellis is written as a good guy, does what he needs to do, isn’t a pushover, and takes care of those he loves.
A ghost named Frankie “The German” Winklemann, former mobster, is thrown into this mix as spirit guide to Verity. He’s a hoot but can’t move on to the light just yet. In the meantime he’s got a ghost girlfriend and they go to ghost clubs, it’s not a bad afterlife. The ghost hunting is scary and funny at the same time, I laughed a lot.
The best line in book is “I’m here to report a suspicious pie”. Don’t hesitate to give Pecan Pies and Dead Guys a try. Happy reading.

I think this one is one of the best books in the series!
Wow! I Every time I read one of these books, I am glued to the pages. This one was no exception.
I think this book had even more mystery, no way did I figure out who it was. I mean I had a little idea, but …..
Verity is actually working 2 cases this time. Both were extraordinary.
And then, the little hint for the next book, oh I can not wait to read that.
I love this series with out a doubt.
You can really feel the characters, and their growth during the series.
*I received my copy in exchange for an honest review.
Love Violet, her skunk, and her significant other. The book is another fun romp.
If you love a heroine with a paranormal sidekick and a great sense of humor, then this book is for you. I strongly recommend that you start with the first book in the series, Southern Spirits, and read them in order. This will allow you to watch the characters and their relationships grow to the point where they feel like old friends. You will not be disappointed.
Roaring Twenties Murder Mystery
If you enjoy stories set in the ‘roaring twenties’, you will love this story. Although this is the
7th book in the series, it is the first one I have read. Although the story comments on previous adventures and is built on past events, it stands alone quite well. The story has several different plot lines going on at the same time. It is interesting and a bit convoluted, but it all ties up together at the end. Very well done! The characters are also well done. They are all deep and have realistic motivations. The book is tense and a bit scary. I didn’t want to read it before bed and waited until daylight hours. I enjoyed this book so much that I am going to read the whole series from the beginning. I received this book for free and this is my honest opinion.
Fun as always. It’s a rare treat when I get to see what Frankie the German is up to now
What could possibly go wrong for a heroine who has a pet skunk, a mobster ghost and a cop boyfriend who just happens to be the big brother of her ex-fiance? She keeps get
I missed the book right before this, but had no problem picking up where Verity was. I really enjoy how Fox comes up with original story lines in a setting I would have imagined would offer limited opportunities. I guess that explains why I’m not a writer. I liked meeting the new crew of ghosts and could visualize the home and house party in my mind from the writing.
The secondary story line with Beau could have been left out, however, I think it was added to further move along Verity’s personal life (and it also would have made a shorter book).
As usual, Lucy pops up here and there to add a little cuteness. We even get a little, like two sentences, giving her backstory. I think she’s my favorite fictional pet.
I think this has been my favorite book in the series so far.

Loved it.
OMG what a ride. Amazing, it just keeps getting better and better. I love everything about this series. Fantastic writing
Angie Fox never disappoints!!!! I LOVE This series.
Love the gang. Great characters and great read. I won’t give the plot, but it is worth the read.
I love this series, and couldn’t wait to read this latest entry. It did not disappoint! As a matter of fact, I think it is my favorite book in the series so far. Two good mysteries, one ghostly and one human, and all the great characters from the previous books. I really enjoyed the 1920s flappers setting of the ghostly mystery. I highly recommend this book!
