A warm and witty paranormal cozy mystery! (Goodreads)
Review:
The characters are well developed and well rounded. Anytime that I get to spend with Verity and Lucy, her pet skunk, is time well spent. Verity and Ellis make a great couple and I enjoy seeing how their relationship is growing. And Ellis’s mother is still as nasty as ever, I hope one day she gets hers.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book I felt like I was right there, watching all the ghosts in their togas, partying, and listening in on conversations. I liked the fact that there were a couple of mysteries to solve, a long ago one and a current one. There were plenty of suspects to consider and clues to sift through and were not easily solved, which is the way I like my mysteries.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted paranormal cozy. I am already looking forward to Verity’s and Frankie’s next ghostly adventure.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book and gave my honest opinion.
Angie Fox is brilliant once again! Verity Long is a wonderful heroine I always enjoy spending time with. Sadly, I haven’t read all the books in this series, but I don’t mind. Never one to have spoilers, Angie Fox’s books can be read in any order. I did peg the baddie right away, which didn’t distract from the story at all. There was a twist that I didn’t see coming. Always a nice surprise. As always, the characters are real and easy to relate to. Their relationships are honest and entertaining. I highly recommend this book. It was absolutely fabulous.
Thank you to Angie Fox, Moose Island Books, and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to enjoy this story and share my honest thoughts and opinions with others.
Pecan Pies and Dead guys by Angie Fox was another fun filled adventure through Summerland with Verity and Frankie.
This time Verity has two mysteries to solve, attempts to reunite a mother and daughter, save her home from a Federal ghost prison and save herself from a vengeful dominant ghost and a stalker.
The story kept me turning the pages as Ms. Fox introduced readers to a new/old venue on the edge of Summerland that was known for it’s extravagant parties in the past. She did meet some really lovely and kind ghosts at the parties that assisted Verity during her investigation. However, poor Verity found herself in danger more than once which kept me gripping the edge of my seat. A quickly paced plot, descriptive writing and characters that are not only likable but lovable make this another rich paranormal cozy that is easy to read and hard to put down until the end.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. All of the above opinions are my own.
I enjoyed book 7 of this series as I have them all.
Verity has her hands full not only with ghosts but a murder, and pies showing up at her door from an unknown source.
I love these characters and enjoyed revisiting with them. The mystery was good and wraps up nicely. I will continue on with this series.
I enjoy this series
I literally laugh out loud during different parts of this entire series.
I really like this fun little series. Light reading that make you smile.
it’s a cute series although the vicious mother-in-law is pretty sad.
I love Angie Fox stories and this has Become my new favorite series.
Unpredictable, engaging and full of ghosts who play by their own rules. Plus the rules are different for humans.
I always enjoy a book in this series!
Book seven in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series a well written story that once I started I was not putting down. Verity Long has another mystery to solve there are ghosts, suspense, drama, danger, jealousy, murder, attempted murder, and a fun story to read. I want to read the next book.
Angie Fox is a very fun author. All of her books make me want to read them all in one setting. They are cute, sweet, funny, and just relaxing!
I loved this whole series. I recommend to see start with the first one.
I always enjoy a new Angie Fox’s Southern Ghost Hunter book
That time of the year has rolled around once again when the air gets crisp, the leaves are rustling, and its time for a new mystery to solve with my favorite 1920’s gangster ghost and his sweet southern gal pal.
Pecan Pies and Dead Guys is the seventh installment in a delightful paranormal cozy mystery series. Each book can be read as standalone, but there is a clear series arc that helps the reader understand the story surrounding the mystery- or mysteries as there are more than one.
In the last book, Verity and Frankie promised a ghostly police inspector that they would help him solve his last unsolved crime. He calls in the favor and they help investigate an unsolved murder that took place at an appropriately creepy, abandoned mansion outside of town. At the same time, Verity’s boyfriend Ellis is working on a present day murder and Verity is receiving mysterious pecan pies while her ex is causing her trouble once again.
I love that the amateur detecting team is a sweet lady and a jaded ghostly gangster. These two crack me up the way they go about things and get into trouble without trying real hard. Okay, so Frankie is a natural at it because he still hangs out with his old ghostly gang members and still thinks like a crook, but Verity just sort of trips over trouble. They are joined many times by Verity’s love interest, police detective, Ellis Wydell.
Speaking of Ellis, the situation Verity is still in with the Wydells is a ticklish one. Ellis’ mom hates her because of their rocky past dealings, but Verity is trying hard for Ellis’ sake. Ellis cares for his family, but he’s still considered the black sheep because he didn’t go into politics or their family law firm like the others- no, he wished to protect and serve as a small town police detective. Ellis is a sweetie and I love how he accepts what he can’t see when it comes to Verity’s ghostly adventures and supports her when he can.
The mysteries in this one were good ones. The historical ghost mystery was definitely more intriguing to me as Verity and Frankie worked a case of a murder that happened back in the ’20’s. The modern murder didn’t get as much attention, but it wasn’t that hard to figure out really. There are some good suspenseful action scenes that keep things exciting between Frankie’s wise cracks and Verity’s investigation work. For the first time, there is a mild cliffhanger that has me anxious to get my paws on the next release pronto.
All in all, this was another solid gold installment in a favorite paranormal cozy mystery series that I can happily recommend to fans of the genre. The ghostly creepiness can get suspenseful, but is definitely within the comfort zone of paranormal light weights.
I read the first book then went ahead and downloaded the rest (iBooks). Love the series and hoping for more.
I love this series; being from the South I can relate to some of family quirks and issues.
