is a spirit trapped in her own version of hell with no recollection of her life or death.
Zelda
It sounds like the start of a horror novel or something.
I’m the amnesiac ghost bride who wakes up with no memory of my life or death.
Only one person can see me.
With no clues as to who I am or how I wound up in this predicament, Scott is my only chance of helping to unlock my memories.
It’s not easy. He’s sarcastic and jaded.
But he’s the only link I have to the living world.

Peaceful Slumber by Nikki Lynn Barrett a fantastic five-star read. This is number one in the Soul Connection series and well I am so eager for the rest, I have read this author previously but not this genre and well it is done so well. This has it all, its very easy to read, and the multiple POV keeps the story fresh, and keeps you hooked and reading. The whole story will enrapture you, and keep you guessing all the way through. Scott and Zelda will just keep you hooked as you meet them and get to know them both remembering with Zelda. This is a great story, and I can’t wait for more.
Nikki Lynn Barrett has written an interesting paranormal romance that is a wonderful introduction to the genre or a great addition to your standing collection. In her novel we meet Scott, who after his near-death encounter is left with the ability of seeing ghosts. He sees one ghost who intrigues him the most; a woman in a wedding gown that is covered in blood. Zelda is not sure how she is able to be seen or how she died. Even what was her life is a mystery. Zelda hopes Scott can help her discover who she is and what happened to her. Scott has his own troubles and has his own reasons to be closed-off. Will Zelda be able to help Scott even with her lack of memories. Will Scott still love Zelda when he learns the truth of her life?
What a great start to a fascinating new paranormal series by Nikki Lynn Barrett.
The series begins with Scott, a sullen young man with trust and family issues, who after a near death experience can see and talk to ghosts. Scott, usually tries to tune out the ghosts who seek his help. However, while attending his uncle’s funeral, he is drawn to a beautiful young ghost with no memory of who she is or what has happened to her. Scott makes it his mission to help her find her way. But in the interim he develops feeling for her. The story that follows is part mystery, thriller, paranormal and romance.
I enjoyed this first book and will definitely be reading “Sleeping Angel” which is the next book in the series. I do recommend it to anyone who enjoys their “ghost” stories with a twist.
“I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.”
I love love love this story. There’s mystery, suspense, romance and ghosts. What else does a person need?
The characters are all flawed and amazing. Scott is definitely my favorite character. He grows so much throughout this story.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I can’t wait to read more.
This is the first book that I have read by Nikki. I have to say this was interesting from beginning to very end. Had me on the edge of my seat. I have to reread some pages to be able to understand the storyline because there are some twists and turns in this book. It is a different genre that I normally read but so glad that I did read this one. Scott can see and talk to ghosts. They seek his help. The day of his uncles funeral he meets Zelda. She does not know what is going on has no memory of what is happening to her. Prepare yourself for the ride you never expected. These two together are amazing. Things happen that you never see coming. Scott helps Zelda with everything even once things happen that bring out who she really is. I absolutely loved this story line. For being a genre that I normally don’t read. I loved it and highly recommend reading it. I would gladly read more from this writer. She has gained a fan with this one.
Scott survived and now he sees ghosts. Normally, he is bothered by them and gets aggravated but not “Zelda”, a ghost who showed up with no memory of who she is and what has happened to her. Can Scott help her so she can move on, or is there something more to this story? As he tries to help her, feelings evolve, as well as, the truth and who she is. I normally don’t read a paranormal stories, but this one was very intriguing and had me captivated from page one.
Peaceful Slumber by Nikki Lynn Barrett is the first book in the Soul Connection Series. It is an amazing paranormal romance and mystery in one.
Scott was clinically dead for a few minutes, and that has given him the ability to see
ghosts. At a graveyard service, a lady in a blood-stained wedding dress appears, but he is the only one who can see her. As Scott tries to find out who the ghost is, and what happened, he can’t help but fall for her, or what he knows of her.
A must read for sure! Can’t wait for the next story!
Oh my goodness, I fell in love with with Scott and Zelda They have so many challenges to go through to find the love that they know is there for them. The plot is so well written and smooth that I didn’t want to stop reading. I kept going just one more chapter and found I couldn’t put my kindle down. The characters feel real. The emotion and personality can take you up and down like a hurricane in Florida. It’s a beautiful love story with a bit of murder, mystery, romance, mental illness, a bit of comedy and a touch of ghosts. I’m excited to see there are two more books in the series. Scott and Zelda may just be my new favorite romance pairing of the year. This is a true paranormal that you just cannot miss.
Amazing read! I couldn’t put it down once I started. I loved the plot. It was different and unique. The storyline flowed smoothly throughout; however, there were sections that were extremely slow. It was well written. I liked the author’s writing style. The characters were well developed and easily relatable. Lots of twist and turns trying find out who Zelda really was. I totally recommend this book. I ended up adding it to my kindle library! Can’t wait to read the next one in this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book.
Simon is a loner. He has been seeing ghosts in the last few years. It’s not an easy thing to describe to the people you know. He tried once…telling his parents, but they made him go to therapy. So now, he just doesn’t talk about it.
Today Simon is in a cemetery. Not the best place for one who sees ghosts. He tries to ignore them all, but one stands out. She’s in a wedding dress, and she looks lost. “Zelda” as he ends up calling her is in the spirit world but has no recollection of her previous life. This begins a partnership between the two of them as they try to piece together the missing parts of her life.
Peaceful Slumber is an amazing story. You will love the characters from the onset. They are wonderfully created and as the puzzle pieces of Zelda’s life are put in order, you will be shocked to learn of the depths to which people will go if it will make their life better.
This is the second book I have read by this author. Very different from the first but still amazing!! A man who can see ghosts…..and a ghost who doesn’t remember her past, not even her name. I love that the geekiness shows through as he calls her Zelda, as she didn’t like getting called ghost bride.. They have so many hurdles to finding out who this woman is, and why she can’t remember anything. Scott was a very endearing character as he struggled to come to terms with his “gift”.
WOW! Peaceful Slumber by Nikki Lynn Barrett is a book that you won’t want to put down. Scott sees ghosts since he died for a few moments. People would not understand this. Raina understands. Her story is full of trauma, drama and mystery. As each revelation unfolds, it makes you want to meet both Scott and Zelda (Raina). Yes, she has a mysterious, dangerous past.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book that was part of a Quirky Blind Date with an Author. The plot and the characters are well developed and there are lots of twists and turns that kept me turning pages. I loved the quirky story which included ghosts, kidnapping, murder and romance.
Scott is a teenager and a bit of a recluse, he is jaded and sarcastic and pushes people away and keeps his own council, he doesn’t get along with his parents, or at least he doesn’t now, not since he died and was brought back, but the only problem with that is that now he can see the dead when nobody else can and that is why he is how he is. She is a ghost, she is wearing a wedding dress covered in blood and has no memories of who she is or what has happened, apart from that she is dead and nobody can see her, that is until she locks eyes with someone at a funeral and that all changes.
I have woken up in a dark place with fog swirling around my feet, I can’t feel anything and I can’t see anybody else around me, but I’m shivering and can feel a cold wind swirling around me, but as I start to panic, I can hear voices, someone sobbing and others trying to comfort them, but when I try to make contact, they can’t hear me. Scott is at the funeral of his Uncle, they are gathered around the grave while the ceremony is conducted, he is there for his Aunt and nobody else, but the dead are all around him and trying to get his attention, so far he has managed to ignore them all, if not, then they will swarm him and ask for his help, that is until one female ghost catches his attention, she is wearing a bloody wedding dress and for some reason he can’t look away and she notices and looks relieved. After he has finished avoiding his parents, he goes over to talk to her, and albeit he is short with her, she doesn’t back off and he is surprised to find that he invites her back to his house so he can help her.
Why did I have to find the one sarcastic guy in the world who can see me, even worse, I’m slightly attracted to him, as I ask him question and he does in return, how little memories I have are worrying and I don’t know what to do, but as Scott seems to be my only ally and we seem to get on well, I’ll take a chance. I get annoyed with Scott when he keeps calling me Ghost Bride, so I ask him to give me a different name and one he likes, he comes up with Zelda, apparently a character from a video game, but I like it, so that is one thing, as he suggests getting the laptop out to start on the research, I realise that I am happy that he will help me when nobody else can. Scott meanwhile is realising that this ghost is attractive, funny and can give the sarcasm as much as he can, so he decides that helping her could be fun, until she leaves, but still he cannot stop himself from noticing how attractive she is and how even though he knows she is dead, he still can’t ignore the fact that she makes him feel alive again.
Will Scott and Zelda be able to figure out who she is and how she died and how will this affect them both of the mystery can be solved? This is a romance with a very paranormal twist, with a mystery you will want to solve as well.
I absolutely recommend this story. Nikki Lynn Barrett has written one heck of a ghost story. Three years ago Scott died, for 10 minutes. After he was revived, things had changed for him. He could see ghosts. Scott has to work his way through a maze of lies and deceit to make the lovely Zelda whole again. A ghost story with suspense and a mystery all wrapped up in pages that basically turn themselves.
His special gift could just be his doorway to happiness.
Scott Henderson’s life had already been on a downhill turn for some time, then his life got so much worse. Little did he know that the worse would turn out to be the best that could ever happen to him.
She is a blank slate because she has no memory. To make matters worse, she may now be dead. How confusing and terrifying. Then she catches the attention of a man attending a funeral. Just maybe he will help her sort out what happened to her.
Peaceful Slumber is definitely a page-turner. It is an odd, but engrossing romantic mystery that has endearing characters and a tightly woven plot. I like both of the main characters, and their chemistry was palatable. Nikki Lynn Barrett did a very good job of balancing dialogue with descriptions and musings. I really liked this book, but sadly I could not give it 5 stars because of the frequent use of vulgarities. I just wish the author would have dialed back the foul language.
Content alert: This book contains passionate kissing and very vulgar language.
