ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
There’s nothing like the feeling of a new book announcement for a series which was technically supposed to be complete. The Harris Brothers series is one of my absolute faves, this family has totally stolen my heart. So when Amy announced that there was going to be more Harris family? Holy moly, I was excited.
Allie is the Harris’s cousin, and our female lead. Roan DeWalt is our male lead, and we have previously met him, if only briefly, in the Harris boys books. These two have instant chemistry and I was keen to see how their story would play out, from the minute they met.
Allie is a very easy to like main female lead, and Roan is damned adorable. Once these two finally get together, I just love everything about them. And there are so many moments with our favourite Harris family, that it feels just like being home. Because these characters have truly made their marks on my heart.
We also got a couple of new-ish secondary characters in their friendship circle, and let me tell you I really want them to get a book too. Anything else in this series really, I just want more and I will never say no.
Loved this one so much, it had great characters, great chemistry (sizzling sexy time scenes), and a perfect ending. Can’t wait to see what we get next from Amy.
in a surprise twist, just when you might have thought the harris brothers were in retirement, amy daws throws a loop and come out with payback. focusing on alice harris, a long-lost american cousin, and roan de walt, booker and tanner’s south african bethnal green teammate.
the chemistry between these two is scorching hot. and it’s only right that their porn-style raunchy sex is actually caught on video. and you know what they say about the accidental sex tape in the first act…it will come into play by the third.
you’d think that what allie did was unforgivable, but the thing is, roan is like the super dreamiest guy. he is actually not interested in groupies. he’s looking for a monogamous relationship. he wants something real and serious with allie. he’s all in from the get-go and it’s allie who is the hot mess who needs to get her head on straight.
spending time with the harrises is always a delight. and allie and roan are a couple you can root for. but i still like gareth best. just sayin’
**payback will publish on may 16, 2019. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of amy daws in exchange for my honest review.
This book was full of so many emotions that I can’t even describe them all because it would take to long. Amy has a way with words that sucks you in and you don’t want it to stop. This book was no different.
Allie and Roan have so much chemistry from day one that it’s hard to imagine that they wouldn’t be together. Even though these two are so different they work very well for each other.
Roan is very guarded and like to keep his private life just that private. He also isn’t afraid to give the Harris brothers a run for their money.
Allie is brave and has many little corks that she tries to hide. She is also a Harris and isn’t afraid to let that show when needed.
The way Amy wrote their story just sucks you in and runs you through the ringer because of actions from both/all characters.
I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
‘Payback’ is the first book that I have read by Amy Daws and I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.
The book is about Alice ‘Allie’ Harris, who arrives in London nursing a broken heart after she discovers her long-term boyfriend sleeping with her Stepsister. The whole ordeal has left her feeling pretty vulnerable, and she decides that she needs to get her own ‘Payback’ to show her cheating ex just exactly what he’s missing.
Allie concocts a plan in her mind, assisted by her crafty cousin Vi who sets her up with the devilishly handsome Football player Roan DeWalt. Roan is to play her date for the evening and help her to enact her revenge, but there’s something about Roan that knocks her completely off kilter.
Roan is new to London, after travelling from South Africa in the hope of making it big as a professional football player, he does not embark upon getting tangled up in any drama. He prides himself upon his squeaky clean image, but there’s something about Allie Harris that makes him want to throw caution to the wind. She is everything he shouldn’t go near; cousin to his team mate, niece of his boss, yet there is something about her that draws him and makes him break his ‘no one night stand rule’. But can she remain that way?
I loved the writing style of this book, it was fast paced, believable and completely hot. The sparks between Allie and Roan are on fire from the beginning and everything about them felt special.
I love the vulnerability of Allie as a character, and you root for her to find the stability and love that she craves. Roan is a good guy, a guy who you can’t help but adore. He takes care of his family, looks out for those around him and tries his hardest to keep out of trouble. You respect him and his goals, and he is always trying to get Allie to let down her walls.
This book had all the drama, romance and humour needed to make for an entertaining read. I loved all of Allie’s cousins and their families, and I absolutely adored her Uncle Vaughan as a character. This is the first book I’ve read which has had a sports romance set in the UK, which was refreshing and made me easily get on board with the plot.
I would recommend to all romance lovers and people who tend to read hotter romances. It was a complete page-turner that I didn’t want to put down. It had a great plot and a finale that I can guarantee will tug on your heartstrings.
Payback is Amy Daws’ newest sexy, football romance set in the Harris Brothers world! It’s their cousin Alice and Roan is Tanner’s teammate. If you haven’t read the Harris Brothers series you need to run and do that now. This is a standalone so you won’t be lost, but you will want to know every one of their stories. Trust me. I listened to the entire series in audio and I love all the brothers! I actually might love Roan the same if not more than them and I was so excited he was going to get his own story. The sexy South African beauty needed his own happily ever after! He’s not your typical footballer with the girls and the drama. He pretty much stays to himself with his roommate Mac (Please give us his story!) and dates here and there. He’s not a player and he’s actually a nice guy. Allie’s cousin Vi sets her up on a date with Roan and Allie can’t believe how good looking, funny and sweet he is. He’s also confident, sexy and a dirty talker. Allie’s only in London for a few days and she spends one amazing night with Roan. Two years later and Allie is back in town. Roan isn’t going to let this opportunity go by again. He wants more of Allie and he’s determined to get what he wants. He’s never wanted a woman like this and not just in the bedroom. There’s something about her that’s so different. She’s beautiful, but there’s so much more to her. Allie tries to resist Roan, but he just says the perfect things. He wants more but he’s not sure what she wants. When things finally get real, something from their past gets out and it’s not good. Not good at all. Roan has worked his whole life to stay clean and focused and help his mom and sisters and his whole life is in jeopardy too. And so is the life he thought he was going to have with Allie. Will Roan be able to forgive Allie? Will he realize he needs her before it’s too late? Wow. I loved this story! Roan gave me all the feels. He’s so sexy and handsome and loves his family. He’s talented and dedicated and loves so many things about Allie. I loved watching them fall for each other. They are opposites, but they just fit. Their connection is off the charts! Allie was broken, but she survived. She’s strong, funny and quirky. I mean, she is a Harris! Overall, I laughed, cried, got hot and bothered and I can’t wait to listen to this sexiness in audio!!
New one night stand sports romance from Amy Daws
Can I have a favorite Harris if I’ve only read Challenge & now Payback?….yes. Yes I can. I freaking LOVE Allie! I love that the emotions you feel with her are so real! I loved everything about this book! And Roan….he’s probably my new favorite book boyfriend. I love how much he’s into Allie, and how much he works at getting her to admit her feelings for him.
I might’ve read this series all wonky, but I really enjoyed every second of this book!
The Harris Brothers are very hard to top but I have to say, I really did LOVE Roan DeWalt. As always Ms. Daws had me laughing, crying, and falling in love. I also loved getting glimpses of all my favorite Harris’. I can not tell you enough anything by Amy Daws is an ABSOLUTE ONE CLICK!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!
GAH! Just when I thought I was okay with the Harris family saga being complete but OMG! This was so good and I’m completely open to having more books in this world!
After the worst breakup ever, Allie, the Harris’ cousin, has a devious plan for payback. She’s not ready for her one-night stand to turn into something so much more two years down the road. I loved watching her growth and self discovery progress as the book did. Roan is such a swoon worthy hero! He knows exactly what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. He’s a hot footballer who knows how to ballroom dance, need I say more?
Roan and Allie’s story is EVERYTHING! These two have sparking hot chemistry right off the bat. As their relationship became more serious, it felt like coming home; home to the entire Harris clan. I couldn’t read their love story fast enough. The drama was there and it was something that has happened to many real athletes. It was interesting to see how it all played out in this story.
This book can absolutely be read as a stand alone but I beg you to go read the Vi and the Harris brothers’ books first. You’ll be able to truly appreciate all of the scenes with the family and fall even more in love with them.
I don’t often listen to audiobooks after I’ve already read the physical or ebook but I am SO excited for this one! I get so giddy every time I think about it! I’ll be listening to it for sure!
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
5 of 5 stars
It was so good being back in the Harris Brother’s (and sister) world. I remember Roan from previous books, but this time the spot light was on him and Harris cousin Allie.
Immediately this book hooked me. From the “warm welcome” Allie received in the beginning the very awesome end. Once again Amy Daws amazed me with her wonderfully well written characters. Allie and Roan were impossible to not love. I fell in love with these two just as I have with every other character she’s ever written. But that’s just a testiment to how good she is. This book had me feeling so much. Humor, happiness and even moments of sadness and anger. But it was so well written and just flows so well you find it hard to put it down to do adult life things.
I highly recommend this story and cannot wait to listen to it again on audio.
This is the story we’ve been waiting for since Ms Daws completed the Harris Brothers series. Roan “Make Me Moan” DeWalt and Allie Harris (cousin to the Harris Brothers) have a one night stand and never plan to see each other again. Fast forward two years and lo and behold Allie is now the assistant to the PR rep for Roan’s football team.
These two are amazing together. And the Harris women playing matchmakers is entertaining. Let us not forget the Harris Brothers shakedown. Good Lord, I about fell out of my chair laughing so hard. But there are also serious moments in this story. Allie’s talk with Uncle Vaughn melted my heart since some of the family history came out and she was finally able to open up to someone about some things. And then there’s the stepsister from Hades. Ms Daws knows how to make us feel all emotions in her book.
I’ve always said Endurance was my favorite book because c’mon it’s Tan the Man and his thigh tickler. But this book surpassed Tan the Man. I fell in love with Roan for multiple reasons. And let us not forget his roomie Mac, the red headed Scot. Hopefully we’ll see his book soon.
I wasn’t sure Amy Daws could top her Harris brothers with Allie but that woman and her antics took the cake! I was into Payback from page one. It was sexy and scandalous and I truly didn’t want to put it down. Because Roan!
Holy #HotButteredYum Roan DeWalt! He is the stuff that book boyfriend dreams are made of. Yes he’s an athlete but he was such a good guy that I couldn’t help but root for him. The way he talked about and helped and adored his family. The way he couldn’t get Allie out of his head. The way he gave Allie the gentle push she needed to give him a true chance.
Even with being a bit of a mess, I liked Allie. She was determined to not let the garbage that had been thrown at her bring her down. She was ready to start her life on her terms. Thankfully she had a family full of Harris men and women on her side to help her along the way.
The fact that Allie hung onto the reminder of her indiscretion bugged me. A lot. Especially as things with her and Roan got deep and real. She knew better than to A- do it in the first place. B- not tell Roan. And C- keep the evidence! I just knew it was going to come back and bite her. And did it ever. What a mess. My heart hurt for everyone, Allie included. But none more than Roan. He didn’t deserve that at all.
Payback kicked balls! From start to finish Amy Daws delivered on every front. I can’t lie, I wasn’t expecting the feels fest that the final quarter of Allie and Roan’s story gave me. I went from angry to heartbroken, to resigned to hopeful, to swooning my socks off to downright joyful. And that ending- gah! It was Roan and Allie to a T- Beyond perfect!
Roan will waltz his way into your heart!!
I adore the Harrisverse and I am so glad we got to revisit them!! Roan is simply fantabulous! He’s is the kind of deliciousness you’d hope to stumble upon in a one night stand that becomes oh so much more!! And Allie is absolutely amazing. She may have started broken by those she trusted, but she came thru that debacle stronger. She found her real ‘home’ and a bigger, better connection with her family. All the yummy feels! I think I may have a girl crush on Allie. And Roan just dethroned Gareth. Witty, tender, steamy, all the mess that having emotions bring! Floved it! I hope Amy is inspired to bring us back to the Harrisverse regularly. I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I absolutely love the Harris Clan. Amy Daws’s writing is amazing. Roan and Allie are both great characters, and they share an instant attraction, and a sizzling hot chemistry. Their story is hilarious, but also emotional, and captivating. It’s delightful to read about the Harris familiy again. I totally recommend it. Now, I can’t wait for the audiobook!
Alice “Allie” Harris is a great friend, and cousin, to Vi Harris. If you don’t know who Vi is you’re starting with the wrong book. Might I suggest you start with That One Moment. And if you don’t know who her brothers are, might I suggest you start reading The Harris Brothers Series.
Roan DeWalt may be helping Vi out but it seems to have turned into something different.
This book seems to take place as Dominate also takes place. What’s good for me is that I’ve listened to the series long enough that I automatically hear Mr. Will M. Watt and Ms. Charlotte Cole reading to me. Now I just have to wait for the audiobook to come out to see how my mind did. But I will have to have some tissue handy because there’s a scene that came towards the end, that was both romantic and tear worthy.
It was nice to see Vi being the boss again. She was the character that made me fall in love with both the Harris family and this author. It was nice to catch up with all the brothers as well. When this book comes out on audio I’ll get to fall in love with this family all over again and have a Harris marathon.
Our author is very crafty when it comes to creating scenes that will get you to laugh. She creates characters that speak their minds and tell it like it is. If you have trouble with people that are descriptive in what they want and do than this may not be the book for you. But if you’re a fan of the series, and this author, than you’re not going to be disappointed. The “now what am I going to do” question comes when I see those two dreaded words, “The End”.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
“Why are you so persistent about this?” Pinning me with his smouldering eyes, he lifts his brows knowingly. “Because I know anything worth having is worth working hard for.”
Let me just be fair in saying I’m 100% in love with the Harris brothers, their women, and basically anyone lucky enough to truly be a part of their life. I just want to get that out there right at the beginning, okay? Okay. Now, let’s talk about Roan.
Right from the beginning, I was totally into him. I can’t even tell you how much I’m anticipating the audio to hear the accent, because I think I may swoon more (I’ll let you know). As the story continued, I was waiting to be annoyed, frustrated, or even disgusted with Roan, but … I just wasn’t. He is such a good guy.
Allie, although from the Harris line and quite likable, frustrated me. I completely understood how hurt she was and how badly she wanted to make herself feel whole again. I could even understand her plan of attack in seeking revenge, but … I’m not sure I fully agreed with her. You feel me? Also, I’m a HUGE fan of honesty, so when she keeps gliding past opportunities to share the truth, I was so disappointed.
BUT, this story…gah, lovely. Allie and Roan have much to face in finding one another, but I loved that it seemed Roan was the one truly giving his feelings first. So often, I feel, in stories about love that I’ve read, the woman is always revealing her feelings first and the man is just like, “Yep. You, too.” This time, though, it seemed that Allie kept herself behind a wall. “Because that’s sort of our rhythm, Lis. I always want more and you always want less.”
I’m always in awe of how this series can seamlessly mesh laugh out loud humor, heart, realistic family dynamics, and the beautiful ride of love. One of my favorite series TO. DATE. Y’all, invest in the Harris brothers if you can … and you will never want to come back to America again.
I feel like I need to walk down the road and have people yell ‘Shame!’ ‘Shame!’ at me because, hangs head in shame while also protecting my face, Payback is my first Amy Daws’ sports romance…my first Amy Daw’s book period.
But before avid Daws’ readers pass judgment on me, I do have to say that I just checked my Kindle content, and I have 8 of Amy Daws’ books! So, it’s not that I haven’t heard of her; it’s just that I need more time in the day…in the week…in the month…in the year to get through my ARCs, my proofreading, and my content editing books, so I can hit my endless TBR list.
I can wholeheartedly say, though, now that I finished Payback, Allie and Roan’s story, I’m going to find time to check out her other stories, especially the ones that center around this awesome Harris family and a group of sexy alpha males who give it their all both on and off the field.
The way Allie Harris and Roan DeWalt meet, the reason behind Allie’s request for a blind date, and the circumstances that arise after said night together becomes more than either of them could have imagined, and while the fact that Allie is only in London for a few days definitely prevents anything substantial from developing between them, let’s just say that it’s not only the distance that stands in the way of Allie and Roan committing to each other, but by the time that information is shared, one or both could already be in too deep, which then has the power to destroy so much more than just their feelings for one another.
The title, while ominous, only depicts one aspect of the story, and the revenge that Allie wants to exact on her ex and her stepsister actually becomes insignificant the more time she spends with Roan and the deeper her feelings for him grow. But here’s the thing about someone feeling betrayed…it’s not a logical emotion, which means that reactions are what drives it and then if it’s never truly dealt with, it has a tendency to fester, preventing an open wound from closing and also disallowing one’s ability to move on.
Because there’s a two year gap between Allie and Roan’s blind date and the second chance they get to be together, Amy Daws is able to illustrate Allie’s growth from a woman who is determined to make those who betrayed her pay for their sins to a woman who has more than learned the meaning of family and the value of finding your person. I have to say it takes a hell of a lot of courage and strength to go through with a plan like the one Allie made for payback, but as much as I understood the hurt and grief that Allie felt, I do wish she would have come clean much sooner, especially when her connection with Roan clearly demonstrated where they were headed. I can’t fault her for her desire for closure, but I do think she went about the wrong way of handling it because it had the ability to implode her life and potentially lose everything that she had worked so hard to obtain.
Roan is such the swoon worthy hero; the way he lives his life…the way he helps his mom and sisters…everything about him will only add to readers’ obsession with him
The Harris brothers definitely have me intrigued; they’re exactly the rough and in your face guys I expected, and the fact that they protect their own, regardless of what happened or why, they’re the ones responsible for showing Allie what family does for each other and their hijinks are also what kept me quite entertained when they were a part of the scenes.
The sense of belonging…of finding one’s true home…of creating unbreakable familial bonds are the overarching themes in Payback, and while Allie may have gone about things in the wrong way, in the end, she learns the lessons she needs to while also figuring out exactly where she needs to be and who she needs to be with, regardless of the work that has to be put in, in order to accomplish that feat.
Amy Daws has absolutely made me a fan of her storytelling and of her characters, and I can’t wait dive into her other series and learn everything I can about these Harris brothers as well as the other heroes and heroines who grace the pages of her books.
4.5 Poison Apples
Allie Harris live in on a crazed downward spiral and she is doing everything she can to keep her head above water. Meeting Roan at this time and dragging him into her craziness for one magical night. Two years later, they are thrown together by the funny loving Harris family who take insane to a whole new level. Roan has dreamed for two years about the one who caught away from him. Why I adore this book: He is a soccer/footballer who can ballroom dance!! Daws sense of humor is all over this book. We get to catch up with our precious Harris Bros and their lives. Ahhh the epilogue, it just gets you right in the heart.

I absolutely loved Allie and Roan’s story! From beginning to end and some tears in between, I couldn’t put this book down. Listening to it around others is probably not the best decision if you tend to randomly laugh really loud like I do.
Great chemistry and plot, executed in a hilarious fashion. All members of the Harris family come out to play in this spin-off and I’m definitely bumping up the original series on my TBR so I can see how the couples came to be!
Oh goodness Amy! You blow my mind! This is something completely amazing and epic! I’ve laugh, got angry, turn on and very much cried during this whole book! I LOVE Roan so much!!!
Allie Harris is not a woman I expected. She starts off as this crazy woman who is ready for payback and then changes drastically but then she doesn’t… she confused me a little bit BUT you could easily see the sexual tension she was trying to hide! I couldn’t understand her decision at first and how this whole book would play out but OMG do things escalate quickly!
Roan is perfect from the beginning and I couldn’t wait to keep reading for more of this alpha male hotness! He not only had this possessiveness about him but a romantic quality too. He had mind changes that the guys thought they knew him but turns out he was a different man. He has this heart I wanted to wrap up and keep away from any harm!
I grew so dang anxious reading at work I went to the bathroom to hide and read because I needed to hurry up and finish! I needed to know what would happen. The biggest part I cried at the end, I could just envision everything and it left me in a puddle of tears! Amy I’m so sad this series has ended but I’ll keep hoping for more..
