First book in a completed series of five lighthearted, fast-paced, and twisty mysteries!Every town has its secrets, but no one has a secret like hers.
Amber Blackwood, lifelong resident of Edgehill, Oregon, has earned a reputation for being a semi-reclusive odd duck. Her store, The Quirky Whisker, is full of curiosities, from extremely potent sleepy teas and ever-burning candles to kids’ toys … sleepy teas and ever-burning candles to kids’ toys that seem to run endlessly without the aid of batteries. The people of Edgehill think of the Quirky Whisker as an integral part of their feline-obsessed town, but most give Amber herself a wide berth. Amber prefers it that way; it keeps her secret safe. But that secret is thrown into jeopardy when Amber’s friend Melanie is found dead, a vial of headache tonic from Amber’s store clutched in her hand.
Edgehill’s newest police chief has had it out for Amber since he arrived three years before. He can’t possibly know she’s a witch, but his suspicions about her odd store and even odder behavior have shot her to the top of his suspect list. When the Edgehill rumor mill finds out Melanie was poisoned, it’s not only the police chief who looks at Amber differently. Determined to both find justice for her friend and to clear her own name, Amber must use her unique gifts to help track down Melanie’s real killer. A quest that threatens much more than her secret …

Love, loved the cat-themed town and Amber’s witchy toy making!
Melissa Erin Jackson delivers a humorous, quirky, and fun mystery that has magic, murder, and meows. The murder mystery has a lighthearted tone with a cat-infused vibe that is seen throughout the feline-obsessed town. This is the place that every cat lover would love to visit and spend time at the local stores such as Quirky Whisker, Paws 4 Tea, and Here & Meow. Jackson captures the essence of this town so perfectly that you can imagine yourself strolling throughout and visiting the stores along with the assortment of charming characters.
Amber is a delightful character that brings to life the lighthearted tone and charm of the story. She has a place in the town as the quirky creator of toys favorited by every child. She’s found a place among the townspeople and has managed to keep her secrets hidden. Though, the local police chief isn’t her biggest fan which creates quite the conflict when her friend is found dead clutching a vial of potion that Amber gave her. Being the number one suspect and at the top of the chief’s list creates the drive for her to solve the murder even if it puts her into the killer’s sights. Paranormal isn’t unusual to spice up the mystery genre, but Jackson adds a whimsical flair that makes Pawisitvely Poisonous stand out with its cleverness and charm.
Looking forward to the next book in the series!
Pawsitively Poisonous by Melissa Erin Jackson is book one in the A Witch of Edgehill Mystery series that I listened to on audio narrated by Victoria Villarreal.
This is the first book of Melissa’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. This book kept me very intrigued until the very end. I cannot wait to listen to the next book in the series Pawsitively Cursed.
Victoria did an amazing job on the narration. She really knows how to bring a story to life.

I really liked the story. I had a hard time putting it down I liked so much that I purchased the rest of the series
too cat based for me
This book was cute but a bit slow going.
Not a bad book, but I had to skim over parts that were just too slow. I finished it, but only because I got involved and did not want to quit after about 30%, had to know who did it, but it was a labor of love to finish.
Quirky mystery for cat lovers!
A fun entertaining story. A great escape from reality for a while.
too much magik for me only got 1/3 way through
I did like this book
It had a great start but the character dwells on a father that disappeared decades ago. Every other page she reference her father. She’s an older character with a dead end job, seeking to restart her life, no kids, none existent dating life. At 30 this lady has nothing.
Amber owns a toy shop in Edgefield, where she also has a few other odds and ends…like her specialty sleepy tea mix. Why does it work so well? Well, Amber is a witch. She uses her abilities to make special herbal remedies to help the townsfolk, as well as charm her toys to do amazing things. Life is great…until her best friend is found dead and one of Amber’s remedy bottles is found in her hand. Amber’s going to have to use everything she’s got to help solve this case and clear her name, all while keeping her magical secret.
Edgehill, Oregon has always been home to Amber Blackwood. She owns a magical toy store which is a huge hit of the cat themed town. She has always kept her magic a secret. For some reason the new sheriff in town seems to dislike her. That was not a problem until there is a murder and Erin needs to solve it.
This wonderful witchy cozy mystery is the first book in the Witch of Edgehill Series. It is full of quirky personalties, complete with strengths and foibles that makes them interesting and engaging. The storyline runs quickly and smoothly filled with twists and turns and several side stories. The mystery is complex, with a plethora of viable suspects, interesting subtle clues, surprises, danger and suspense. The narrative is well done and gives both a great description of the small town atmosphere and insight into the heroine’s thoughts, insecurities, emotions, motivations and actions. The book is overall really well done and the dialogue and character interaction is great. I look forward to reading more books in this series.
Amber Blackwood is a lifelong resident of Edgehill and she has a secret ~ she’s a witch. When her friend is found murdered, the police chief initially suspects her but as more things come to light, they wind up working together. Can they move past his distrust and find the real killer?
I really enjoyed this book which is a great start to a series. It was well-written with wonderful characters and it pulled me in from the beginning. I look forward to the next book and highly recommend this one.
This was a great book that was a page turner. No one in the town of Edgehill knows that Amber Blackwood is a witch who runs a store with a little bit of everything in it but it also carries one of a kind animals that Amber makes and she puts magic in them. The sheriff is suspicious of her but he really doesn’t know why. Then when a murder happens, Amber turns very helpful to the sheriff’s annoyance. I really enjoyed this book.
Sneaky, sneaky witch…Amber Blackwood is a witch. She leads a rather normal life for a witch. She owns a shop called Quirky Whisker and she sells tea, different kinds of tinctures and toys which she makes herself. She lives in Edgewood and what is the most fun element is that in this town everything is about cats. There isn’t a shop or café which doesn’t have something “catty” in its name. I am more of a dog person but I enjoyed this aspect of the story. And then one day something terrible happens. Her best friend, Melanie is found dead, presumably murdered. And the new chief of police seems to think Amber’s got something to do with it. So Amber starts on a mission to find out what happened to her friend.
I liked that the story kept me guessing until the end. I did’t see it coming and that is always a good thing. What is also refreshing that there is absolutely no love interest between the two lead characters. Their dynamic makes the story even more fun to read.
The characters are great. Amber seems a little naive but I guess that’s okay, this is her first murder mysterie. Owen Brown, chief of police, now he is a really interesting guy. His character is not developed enough yet but I hope that will change in the following books. I will definitely read the following books.
Thank you to NetGalley, Ringtail Press and Melissa Erin Jackson for my copy.
This first book in A Witch of Edgehill Mystery Series by Melissa Erin Jackson was a cute, fun, and interesting cozy murder mystery story involving a witch hiding her identity, the police chief, and multiple potential suspects. The story centered around a young woman hiding the fact that she is a witch while attempting to solve the murder of her friend. The entire town is a cat theme from one end to the other and every business in between which is what contributes to the cuteness of the story. The plot moves along rather quickly and I must say I thought I had part of the end figured out but definitely not all of it as the author smoothly hides some facts from the reader until the end is revealed. I would definitely add another book in this series to my TBR. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books.
This was my first Melissa Erin Jackson’s book, and won’t be my last. This is the first book in the A Witch of Edghill Mystery Series, a great and fun cozy mystery. Amber is a wonderful character. The cast of characters is great and intriguing. The mystery unfold at a great pace. I loved it. Victoria Villarreal did a great job with the narration. She has a beautiful voice. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, Pawsitively Cursed. I you like cozy mysteries, this one is for you!
Audio Review:
Pawsitively Poisonous (A Witch of Edgehill Mystery, Book 1) is the first audio in this cozy mysteries series. I was bewitched by the cover and couldn’t wait to listen to it. I loved how the beginning and how the ending starts with mystical music bringing witchy mysterious vibes. The world building descriptions & settings are well detailed. Characters are entertainly witchy. Eclectic shop, feline haven, herbal remedies, magical spells & potions, magical toys, and heaps of suspense swirling through the pages. This ends in a way that leads into the next book, but ties up everything in this mystery. A entertaining listen.
Narator Victoria Villarreal’s performance was majestic and smooth.
