Resourceful librarian Kathleen Paulson needs the help of her magical cats, Owen and Hercules, to clear the name of someone close to her heart in this mystery in the New York Times bestselling series… Kathleen is excited to meet three old pals of her beau, Detective Marcus Gordon, while they visit charming Mayville Heights on business. But the reunion is cut short when one of the friends is … one of the friends is killed—and the evidence points toward Marcus as the murderer.
Though it seems she doesn’t know all of Marcus’s secrets, Kathleen is sure he’s no killer. With his suspect status sidelining him from investigating the case, it’s up to Kathleen and her feline partners-in-crime to find whoever is framing Marcus—and make sure the good detective hasn’t found his last clue.

In Paws and Effect, we get a little more backstory on Kathleen’s beau, Marcus. When three of Marcus’s friends arrive in town to investigate some land that is looking to be developed, Kathleen can’t wait to meet them. When she does, there is definitely some history – and not all of if it good. Then, as the land develop proceeds, one of his friends is found dead. Evidence points to Marcus but murder isn’t on his dossier. To keep him from ending up on the opposite side of a jail cell, Kathleen and her cats start doing some digging. She’s determined to prove that Marcus is being framed.
Paws and Effect is another great book in Sofie Kelly’s Magical Cats Mystery series. I enjoy my time spent in Mayville Heights. The pacing of the story is steady and the entire novel is easy to read and understand. Multiple suspects keep the reader guessing and keep Kathleen and Marcus on their toes. The continued world building and character development of Kathleen, her magical kitties, and Marcus, along with the secondary characters, is fresh and original with each installment.
The books in Sofie Kelly’s Magical Cats Mysteries are descriptive without going overboard. I feel like I’m in every scene of the story. The books also have the right amount of suspense to keep the reader engaged all the way to the end. The romance included isn’t over the top and doesn’t overshadow the mystery solving. It’s a nice addition to give the story and characters realism.
The Magical Cats Mystery series is one of my favorites. I enjoy the lowkey nature of cozy mysteries. They keep me entertained with their quirky main characters. I recommend the series to all cozy mystery lovers.
I would love to have magical cats of my own but I do have 2 feral cats so I relate. Fun storyline and love the special gifts that cats have.
I have read all the books in this series. It is one of my favorite series. The characters are all interesting especially the cats. This is my least favorite of the series because it is darker in tone that others in the series.
It has been a while since I read it but I love all her books
I’m so glad I found this series. I love these characters and wish I could move to this town.
I really enjoyed this book. The beginning drew me into the story. The characters have more of themselves revealed. This investigation into a murder of Marcus’ friend leaves Marcus on the sidelines. We learn more about Marcus’ partner and her relationship to Marcus and Kathleen.
This book does not need to be read in sequence. As all of her books, Ms Kelly has ensured it is a standalone. You get all the info you need to enjoy the story. I checked this book out of the library.
I read this and posted reviews on 26 Oct 2016.
A nice cozy series!
This is a fun, easy read series! And it doesn’t hurt that I am a cat lover.
This book from the Magical Cat series is every bit as entertaining as the other books in the series.
This is a very enjoyable series!
Love—-love this series!!! Can’t wait to read the next one.
Charming. Sort of a segue from the “Cat Who . . .” books.
I enjoy this author very much. Her writing is good. I would give this book 5 stars.
I love books about cats
I love to read books about magic and cats…can’t get better than a series about magical cats.
I do like Sofie Kelly’s Magical Cats series. Her 2 rescue cats are embued with unique personalities and abilities. The story line is engaging and keeps you guessing and puzzled until almost the very end. Would I recommend this? Absolutely. Especially to others who like a bit fantasy and whimsy mixed with the harsher realities of life.
This is another great addition to Sofie Kelly’s Magical Cats series. I read a lot of cozies and especially enjoy cat-themed cozies, but this series is way above any others. Paws and Effect has some unexpected twists and turns with Kathleen’s boyfriend, straight-arrow detective Marcus, being suspected of murder!
this series is fantastic!! fun, fast, cozy-style mystery to really enjoy.
Am looking for more in this series
Very entertaining and a cheery break from the intensity of my usual fare.
