Maya Augustine needed to disappear—her life depended on it. When her path led her to the middle-of-nowhere Virginia, she found the perfect place to hide. A woman on the run, Maya had no business befriending anyone, let alone allowing herself to become involved with a man … especially after her last experience. Even so, she couldn’t help but become obsessed with the bruised, battered, and … beautiful killer who walked into her life.
Grady Cain reached rock bottom. His past finally caught up with him, causing him to lose his edge at work and in life. Spiraling down a desperate path of remorse and guilt, Grady wasn’t expecting his refuge to come in the form of a woman. Day in—day out, she was the only thing he’d allowed himself to think about. To focus on. To consume him.
One was running. The other had nothing to run to.
Until these troubled souls crossed paths…
And two paths became one.
Warning: This author is a mom who runs a PG-13 home. This book is not PG-13. She would literally keel over and die if anyone under the age of 18 read this book. If you’re not of age, save this author from her untimely death, and go read about teenage wizards. They’re awesome.

I know I’m late discovering this series, but I’m glad I finally came round. Who would have thought you could turn a group of former assassins into book boyfriends? It works, and it’s wonderful.
Grady is a broken man that’s never been able to stay in one place until now. Maya is running for her life. These two have so many secrets to hide. The book also has a large amount of humor. Clara is a fantastic secondary character that will have you laughing out loud. I can’t forget to mention the elderly characters at The Ranch.
One of the favorite things about Grady is his enormous sweet tooth. I can’t wait to read the next one. Oh, and this cover.
Brynne Asher has a way of writing that just sucks you in and keeps you wanting to know more and more about the characters. Maya is such a mystery to me and uncovering what landed her at Whitetail kept me glued to the pages. I really loved this story. There was so much more to Grady than I imagined and he stole my heart. Maya was such a mystery in Vines so I loved learning her story about how and why she came to Virginia and watching her come out of her shell. I really enjoy Brynne Asher’s writing style and just want to devour this whole series.
Another great book in this series. I really loved Maya and Grady. The way the author has written this world and although each book can be read as a standalone they are so interconnected that to get the most out of the book and characters you need to read the first one. You won’t be sorry that you do.
I get lost in this out in the middle of nowhere c0untry area, with its winery, the cows, the camp and even the horse farm. It is just a place I can picture in my head because the author is so good at describing everything to make you feel like you are there.
This author is not only great at world building but her characters are written so well. You get these complex people who make you love them. They have deep backgrounds and lives that are not the easiest but they are making their own paths. Grady and Maya are exactly what each other need to help them heal and move forward in their lives.
I cannot wait for Asa’s story next.
2nd time reading this and I still love it. I was so excited for Grady’s book and this did not disappoint. Grady gets in to trouble and that turns him in to brooding grumpy man. Maya is new in town and is crushing on him from behind the counter of her job. Once Maya becomes Grady’s PT their relationship starts to blossom. Maya who is running from her past but it catches up to her and Grady becomes her bodyguard so to speak. I LOVE this series.
I am glad we got to see Grady get his happy ever after. I think Maya is perfect for him. They made a nice couple to add to the group.
I enjoyed every moment of Grady and Maya’s story, falling in love with them as they chased after their own love story. Grady swooped in and made himself a fortress for Maya, the safe haven she desperately needed till she could get steady again – even if she fought against it or questioned it at first. Maya fed Grady’s heart, head, and spirit, providing him with the refuge and motivation to rebuild himself. Together they gave so much – and I soaked up every moment!
I’m quickly becoming a total fan-girl of Brynne Asher – all her stories, and (so far) especially her Killer’s series, feed my heart and keep me coming back for more. I’ve found myself randomly picking up her books to reread bits and pieces of favorite scenes when I have just a few min to spend reading. When you don’t want to leave an author’s world? That’s a sign of an epic storyteller!!
“Paths” is a 5 Star read and I truly enjoying delving in to Grady and Maya’s story. We knew from “Vines” that Grady was not in a good place and I couldn’t wait to read his story. I liked how Grady never gives up on Maya and how she helps him heal. But true to Brynne Asher fashion there is action, suspense and sexy times along the way. Another great book in the Killers series.
This book had everything. It’s one of my favourite of all this authors work. The writing is amazing and I loved the characters. The storyline is unique and will keep you guessing all the way thro. Emotional and intensely compelling. Awesome book
Maya and Grady’s story is simply amazing. This read had all the feels as well. I really enjoyed this read. The action, the angst, the troubled past, the love and the HEA makes for one exciting read.
It has been a couple of years since I’ve read this book and it was as good, if not better than I remember it being (my rating changed from 4 stars to 5 stars). I just have to say, Brynne Asher is so consistent with creating the best characters! I loved Maya and Grady so much! Maya has been in hiding and closed herself off from really getting to know the people around her. Unfortunately for her, with some meddling from Addy and Crew (from Vines) she is unable to keep her distance.
Grady Cain, currently recovering from a mission gone bad, is one grumpy bear of a man and wants to be left alone. But once Addy and Crew found out that Maya has some background in physical therapy both Grady and Maya are reluctantly thrown into each other. These two definitely have some baggage and tried to keep things professional, but the attraction and chemistry made that impossible. And once Maya’s past comes back to cause havoc and places her in danger, all bets are off and Grady was all in.
I absolutely adored the relationship between Grady and Maya. They gave each other exactly what they needed. Maya finally found a place to belong and Grady was finally able to heal, both physically and mentally.
Paths was an amazing read and it was so great to revisit these characters again.
What a great second novel to the series.
This book will keep you on your toes from cover to cover.
Glad Harry made a cameo too!!
Another win for Brynne Asher.
Give me Grady
I really enjoyed this book. Grady is all growls and grunts but such a charismatic sweetheart once you get past that broken hard exterior of his. His ability to interject seemingly lighthearted comments that also really cut to the chase is awesome. I simply enjoyed him. Maya as well is a very likeable character. Plenty of steam and suspense.
Because this is book two and I had read book one I felt like just got taken deeper into the fold and I loved every minute of it. It wasn’t the quickest read but I am really happy I met and spent some more time with this series and characters.
After falling in love with Vines, I knew I needed to start Paths immediately. I was super intrigued by Grady and wanted to know more of his story. Well, he was great. Another well done alpha hero who starts off a little broody, but overcomes that as the novel moves forward. He was very sweet with Maya and I loved how he put a smile on her face. I also really liked Maya as well. I was curious about what her secret was and enjoyed finding out her story. Grady and Maya had immediate chemistry and lots of steam! As in the first novel, there’s a good amount of suspense throughout the novel as well. I also enjoyed seeing more of Crew and Addy from Vines as well. This can be read as a standalone novel, but I do recommend reading the first at some point because it’s amazing as well!
The only thing that needs to be said is…..go get it and read it……this book is at the very top of my most favorite books ever….I am absolutely loving this series!
Ah Grady and Maya… Here we are again back in the fabulous world of former operatives (former is used loosely because Grady) and the ladyies thst love them, after playing hard to get (kinda) and tossing a wrench in everything because of their padt which is chasing her and follows/finds her! But alas – Grady to save the day. And he does but that man made Maya WORK to even pay her attention. It might have something to do with… Opps never mind, you just go to read Paths.
Paths is book two in The Killers series by Brynne Asher. This is the first book I have read in this series and can easily be read as a stand alone. This is my third book by Brynne and I can say with no hesitation that she has become a favorite author. Her books have protective, alpha heroes that we can’t help ourselves but to fall in love with as I am sure you will with Grady in this book!
Grady Cain’s life led him to this place, at this time, and to this woman, the object of his obsession. He is injured, both in body and soul, and needed this time to recuperate and figure out what was next for him. At a time when he didn’t have anything to focus on, he found Maya. She just didn’t realize it. He watched her jog through the woods over the security system. He probably started falling for her then, before she even knew who he was.
Maya Augustine needed to hide and what better place than a small town in the middle of nowhere in Virginia. She is a physical therapist but isn’t licensed in Virginia so she is working both as an activities director for a nursing home and as a waitress in a winery. It’s here that she first saw him, the beautiful, brooding man who had unexplained injuries. She never had the nerve to talk to him but always watched him. She felt like she was being a creeper. But seeing him was the highlight of her day.
Maya had to run from her ex, a man she had known since she was sixteen years old, her first love. Only as the years went by and she got older, she learned things about him, and about his family. She tried to end things but he wouldn’t take no for an answer. And his family made it clear that she was now a liability, that she knew too much. She tries not to make any connections with anyone in her new town. She doesn’t want to draw any attention to herself. But she can’t help but feel drawn to this man.
“Every moment I spend with her, I want her. More than I’ve ever wanted anything.”
Maya and Grady finally do speak to each other and the chemistry they both feel is crazy strong. At the same time, Maya’s location becomes known to the very man she needs to stay hidden from and Grady steps in to protect her. He knows that this woman is going to be his future, that she saved him and he wants to spend the rest of his life with her. But there is so much about him that she doesn’t know. Will she still look at him in the same way when she finds out?
“I’ve wanted you since the beginning, baby, before you even knew there was a beginning.”
There wasn’t a single thing I didn’t love about Grady. Yes, in the beginning he was all broody but that isn’t who he really was at all. I think the thing I loved the most about him was how hilarious he was. In the tensest of moments, he would come out with the cutest things to make Maya smile. While I was reading, at one point, I realized I was smiling right along with her. He took things so slow, proving to her that she could trust him, that he would take care of her. And he did in every way.
“I’ve fallen so deep, there’s no way to find my way back.”
“Baby, the path I’ve walked to get to you? I’m never going back.”
I absolutely loved everything about this book. Grady made me sigh so many times. And Maya was so strong. This book had plenty of steam, sweet moments and lots of suspense. It had everything. I absolutely will be reading more by this author. Stay tuned to see what comes next!
5 ALL MY GRADY STARS!! Grady is my new book boyfriend, this guy is the perfect hero. He is cocky, hot, sweet, sexy, protective, confident and ALL MINE. I loved everything about Grady and Maya’s story these two needed each other after both being broken and what a perfect couple they make. This was my first book by Brynne Asher and she has gained a stalker, I can’t wait to read more book by this author.
Maya Augustine found out her ex-fiancee was a complete facade and it made her go on the run.
Grady Cain is still recovering from his last mission which nearly left him dead.
Put these two together and you have the making of a great story!!
Grady’s character I loved because he was the ultimate Alpha wanting to help Maya once he realized that she was in need of protection. He has a strong exterior but he is a real softly once you peel back the layers. Maya wasn`t your typical damsel in distress she took it upon herself to change her circumstances and start anew which I admired because she just didn’t wait for someone to do it for her. The relationship between the two characters was great. I thought they were great together – a nice balance. great chemistry; making the story flow nicely.
Being that this is the first book I read from this author I did not know what to expect so I was pleasantly surprised I was hooked from the first page! I will definately be reading more from this author!
I won this book and so glad I did. Never read this author before, but will definitely be reading her now. Wow, it was like a little piece of book crack. So, it had definitely started the addiction for this series. Grady is like my food snob soulmate, yeah I totally went there. All of his comments about food, I swear I have said them all at one time or the other…I think you all already know I’m calling dibs, you can’t keep food snob soulmates apart…not happening.
This book starts out with Grady in a bad head space and Maya trying to hide from her cray cray ex that cannot take no for an answer and her awful, controlling mom. Maya is such a sweetie, she works part time for Addy and part time at a senior center…which is where the funniest scenes happen. She also happens to be a physical therapist, in which Grady really needs after his last mission didn’t go so well. They kind of lust after each other from a distance, but once Crew and Addy make him see her for therapy…whew, it gets all kinds of heated. Their humor cracks me up, he says the funniest things to her and I loved it. “Now you ask me out,” I complain. “After I let you strip me down to almost nothing, maneuver me into your bed, and practically get me to second base. Taking me to your Christmas party is the least you can do.” Lmao…he is a handful in the best possible way. He helps her deal with her ex and her mom, trust me when I say she needed help with both.
This was a safe read with some great suspense. No ow drama, but some om drama, because her ex can’t take no for an answer and he’s cray cray. A badass, food snob alpha and his sweet, healthy eating physical therapist, who’s always trying to get him to eat better…it really is hilarious. Great supporting characters, his over the top sisters, Foxy and Grady’s harem at the senior center…so damn funny. A kick ass “proposal”, baby batter, a sweet epilogue and an hea. I am so glad I won this book. Thank you Brynne Asher, I have already started on the book crack that is Crew and Addy’s book.
