The first time Adeline Ivey danced into my life, high on ecstasy instead of life, was at the party before the kickoff of our seventh tour. I spotted her out on the lawn, a gorgeous girl spinning around in circles with her arms wide and a big smile directed at the Los Angeles sky.We shared an insane summer on the road, surrounded by sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll—a combination that could only end in … only end in disaster.
That was ten years ago. The world has forgotten Lincoln Hayes, rock god and guitarist in Path of Destruction. As the date of my parole hearing approaches, I’m nothing but a number in the system of the Michigan Department of Corrections. And as much as I want to forget the events of that summer and move on, the girl I can’t get out of my head is trying to make an encore appearance in my life.

Path of Destruction – an epic journey and an epic lovestory!!!*
„I´m bitter because I lost. … I lost everything. My career, my freedom, my friends….I lost you.“
„Path of Destruction“ is book 3 in Cara Dee´s „Camassia Cove Series“
This is another amazing, heartwrecking book created by Cara Dee.
Again she convinces with an incredibly detailed world building, with deep characters and exceptional character developments.
Again, Cara Dee takes her readers right into the minds and thoughts of her characters, so you feel and live their every emotions, struggles and doubts, that you can´t help but suffer with them, feel with them and fall in love with them.
As reader you are right in the middle of the life of famous rock stars on their tour all over the country, the life of prison inmates and friends and family who are left behind and finally the life of prisoners after their release.
Follow Lincoln Hayes, guitarist of the world famous rock band „Path of Destruction“ and Adeline Ivey, his groupie, being on tour for 3 months, living the intense, fast and destructive life of „Sex, Drugs and Rock N´Roll“ to the point, when Lincoln tries to protect Adeline from her past.
He committs a crime, that changes both their lives forever.
„Yeah. I miss life. I miss playing. I miss writing. I miss freedom. I miss her…“
„She was everything. Or used to be.“
But this story is so much more that just a rock star love story.
It´s some really heavy stuff, that made it sometimes difficult for me to keep on reading. Cause it´s heartbreaking.
It´s about drug addiction, childhood abuse, self hatred to the point of wishing to die.
And it´s about 10 long years of struggling with guilt, regret, blame, self-loathing but also about good friends for life, becoming a family when you expect it the least, mourning the loss of a beloved friend.
„Who wouldn´t want a light to guide you home when you´re lost?“
If you´re starting all new with Cara Dee´s books make sure to checkout the correct timeline on her website before reading, because most of her books are somehow connected, even when they are supposed to be standalones.
Here in „Path of Destruction“ are a lot of new characters introduced, that appear in the following books in the Camassia Cove universe.
There are Lincoln´s fellow inmate Casey (Kid), who has his own book „Uncomplicated Choices“ and Madigan, who also has his own book „Power Play“.
I wish, I would have read this book before reading „Power Play“ which is Madigan´s and Abel´s story. A lot of details make much more sense now.
This is such an emotional story. I had to stop a few times just to catch my breath. This shows the other side of fame. The author does an excellent job of setting up the characters and the main story. The characters come to life as the story flows. Between Ade’s childhood and Lincoln’s protectiveness my heart broke for both of them. They both make the music, sex and drugs appear anything but fun. Their interaction with the secondary characters is so real I felt I was reading more a true story rather than fiction. All the events that take place to get them together made me ready to cry more than once. When the author tossed in Morgan and his son’s that really broke my heart. I really am happy that the author was able to pull it all together and show what “family” really is. I really enjoyed this story. I just recently found this author and started with the latest book in the series. I liked it so much I had to go get the rest. I am enjoying each story and I have to say this author can sure make heartbreaking situations but she also makes the story great. I’m going to read the rest of this series and can’t wait for others to be published
This book is addicting from start to finish. The connection between Lincoln and Adeline is so much more than just a love story. These two go through so many things to find their happily ever after. Their road has so many curves and roadblocks that at times it seems hopeless. I don’t want to go into too much of the details and give too much away but this is defiantly a story worth your time. It had me totally hooked from the beginning. I loved their journey so much at times it made me mad then at others it broke my heart then at times I was completely devastated for what these characters went through. This author put all these feelings and emotions into these characters and told such a tragically beautiful story in such a beautiful way that will have you falling in love from start to finish. I loved it so so much. Then the icing on top they all ended up in Camassia Cove!!
*4.5 Stars*
Cara Dee takes realism to another level. She’ll tackle subjects I don’t often see in romance books whether it’s drugs, mental health, prison or anything that is gritty. The story unfolds in a way that is so absolutely heartbreaking but so perfect because it’s a reminder that life and love takes an imperfect journey.
For the most part, the beginning with the two POVs and switching between past/present didn’t work well for me. It took me a little while to truly connect with the characters. It was a necessary part of the book but to some degree it felt like the character development was a bit slow to develop. The world building also struggled with the past/present and two POVs. That being said it did lay necessary groundwork but I took away half a point for this part.
The present part of the book blew me away. There is so much angst in this book, it reached out to my heart and soul. At times I didn’t know what to hope for and what to think. One of the main aspects I enjoyed was in this part there’s extreme character development, not just in the hero and heroine but secondary characters. That is part of the realism Cara Dee creates that I so thoroughly enjoy. The world building in this section presented a more detailed and intense picture that kept me entirely engaged.
This is not the typical love story I’m used to reading but then again Cara Dee never gives me the expected, which is why I love her books. While I put it as a 4.5 star book I still consider it an amazing romance, sure to elicit strong emotions and a must read.
Highly recommend!
