NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The latest from Danielle Steel, Past Perfect is a spellbinding story of two families living a hundred years apart who come together in time in a startling moment, opening the door to rare friendship and major events in early-twentieth-century history. Sybil and Blake Gregory have established a predictable, well-ordered Manhattan life—she as a cutting-edge design … as a cutting-edge design authority and museum consultant, he in high-tech investments—raising their teenagers Andrew and Caroline and six-year-old Charlie. But everything changes when Blake is offered a dream job he can’t resist as CEO of a start-up in San Francisco. He accepts it without consulting his wife and buys a magnificent, irresistibly underpriced historic Pacific Heights mansion as their new home.
The past and present suddenly collide for them in the elegant mansion filled with tender memories and haunting portraits when an earthquake shocks them the night they arrive. The original inhabitants appear for a few brief minutes. In the ensuing days, the Gregorys meet the large and lively family who lived there a century ago: distinguished Bertrand Butterfield and his gracious wife Gwyneth, their sons Josiah and little Magnus, daughters Bettina and Lucy, formidable Scottish matriarch Augusta and her eccentric brother Angus.
All long since dead. All very much alive in spirit—and visible to the Gregorys and no one else. The two families are delighted to share elegant dinners and warm friendship. They have much to teach each other, as the Gregorys watch the past unfold while living their own modern-day lives. Within these enchanted rooms, it is at once 1917 and a century later, where the Gregorys gratefully realize they have been given a perfect gift—beloved friends and the wisdom to shape their own future with grace from a fascinating past.
Past Perfect is Danielle Steel at her bewitching best, a novel for the ages.

Could not put this down! Danielle Steele’s books never disappoint me. Can’t wait til the next one come out.
Unusual storyline that kept me reading Finished in 2 days. Absolutely loved it!,
This book was about a family that buys a haunted house. A different scenario with the families becoming friends from both generations –a hundred years apart.
Interesting idea for a book, buying a house & living with the former owners from 100 yrs before! I enjoy DS’s books but like all of Danielle Steele’s books she keeps repeating the same story idea in different ways. I sometimes wonder if she’s paid by words.
This book is about a family Gregory who have mother and father and 3 children.
The mother works at Museum as a curator she writes articles. Mr Grogory finds a opportunity to get Promoted by working san Francisco for a busuniss that he will be CEO wjich will be double than his Current job, but the Challenge is that he must move with his whole family from New york To San Francisco ended up Buying a House unintentionally which is he finds vey cheap but his wife doesnt like making decision of his husbands.
On the 1st 3 days luving in new apartment they experiemce earth quicke and meet the family who has been living in the house for over a decade..two world collide past and present. The Butterfields are nice family which want to adapt to the new technology of today social media though they are ghost. Having formal dinners at the dining the topics being discussed makes the experience of living in the new house enjoyable Live and Happy for everyone.
Own/have read every book she ever wrote…never disappoints! Thanks Ms Steel!!
Past perfect by Steel_ Danielle
Cybil and Blake married almost 20 years and they have 3 kids-2 in high school and one in first grade, born and raised in NYC and love it there.
Blake gets an offer in San Fran and goes out to check it out-there is nothing that will keep him from going there and making tons of money-he has to persuade his wife and kids to go also…
Not only did he take the job but bought a huge house, very old for them to move into.
20,000 square feet 1902 house with storage that included all art and furniture. Cybil loves the place and the move will give her time to finish writing her book and still do design work if the offers come.
They all arrive with their high tech devices and it’s quite the contrast to what the house is all about…
Eathquake occurs and things are moved to new locations prior to that…. Youngest keeps thinking there are hidden passages and ghosts…
Cybil had seen the prior residents as ghosts and tries to explain what she saw when she sees the pictures on the walls.
She reads the family historical book and finds out who they all are and calls in someone who specializes in ghosts and he tells her they feel comfortable there and she wants them gone!
Like how the families meld but i still think it’s very weird. What Cybil finds in the book and acts on it is really weird! Servants think the whole family is crazy talking to themselves as they can’t see the old family.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
The characters were so well developed. Even though this book is science fiction, it was absolutely acceptable and sssmed likes an everyday common occurrence. I totally enjoyed it!
Haven’t read a book like this before, very entertaining.
It was a very interesting book and it really held my attention. Danielle steel has been writing some very interesting New World books. Must read
This is my first Danielle Steele book so I can’t compare it to her other books. I liked the synopsis of the book, it sounded intriguing. I couldn’t put the book down because I couldn’t figure out she was going to end it. I was disappointed to find that there really was no ending. I’m happy that the ending wasn’t sad. Just disappointed.
I enjoyed the premise of the book and I enjoyed reading it. But I think it the story seemed to fall apart. I think the author failed to really flesh out the story.
What happens when you move into a house that has a family of ghosts living there as well?? Would you stay or move??
Not the usual Danielle Steel story. Different but it kept me reading to the end.
I can’t believe Danielle Steele wrote this book ! It was terrible, made no sense at all, too many characters and really not a story at all. I finished reading this book only because I purchased it at full price. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I have read all her books and look forward to every new one . This was completely awful! It was time travel mixed with fantasy and not even plausible in any way. Ghosts who eat big meals ? Ghosts who know they’re ghosts but struggle through death knowing they will return ? Please don’t waste your money !
Totally bizarre and wonderful!!
One of the very few d. S. Books I did not like, and did not finish reading.
Absolutely loved this book!
