Three novellas, each of which introduces a mystery series. My favorite was the first one, A Soupçon of Poison. The main character, Kat Holloway, is the cook in a wealthy Victorian-era household. She’s a wonderful character, a joy to read, and her counterpart, a mysterious male, is delightfully intriguing.
The second novella takes place in Ancient Rome, another era I like to read about. The hero is a retired gladiator, and his female counterpart is brilliant. I hope this develops into a long series. The third novella intros the Captain Lacey series, of which I’ve read and enjoyed quite a few.
it is very high
If I read it, it was excellent !!!!! I READ IT. JAK,jr.
Really like this author. Everything so far I have enjoyed.
Not the greatest literature and much too predictable, therefore somewhat boring.
Enjoyable read. Great characters and well written. Moves at a nice pac.
Loved the historical background! I bought the two Jennider Ashley books, Death below Stairs and Scandal above stairs! Hope there will be more soon!
Great introduction to various characters in different series!
well developed, interesting characters
I always enjoy this author and leave each book hungry to learn more about the characters. Well written and well researched. Good plot lines.
I loved the first story in the book but lost interest in the others. Sorry, but the writing and story telling are not consistent throughout. I believe the writer should stick to the same time period as A Soupcon of Poison where she is at her best, and let go of the other historical periods.
Loved it
Enjoyed the perspectives on the 3 different eras, but mostly I really enjoyed the characters. Will check into other books by this author. I understand that the 3 selections in this book are novellas filling in some gaps in the 3 individual series with the characters. Looking forward to the novels.
Well researched and well written.
Great stories. Original and a nice break from the titled London stories. Have a look at the seamier side of the grand old days of balls and titled marriages.
These have been published elsewhere…but they are still great stories!
I was engaged.
An entertaining read!
3 different stories. all well written and interesting to bring older times to light.
The stories were mainly a way for the author to introduce the series the stories represented. The best was the one set in Rome but the characters seemed flat, the plots formulaic.
