Who doesn’t love a furry ball of fun? Great characters and a sweet suspenseful romance with a scene-stealing dog.
Gah! This was such an fantastic read! This is my first book by this author and most definitely won’t be my last! I totally loved Emerson (Em) and Finn together, and this book is a perfect mix of hot, funny, suspenseful and romantic, that kept me fascinated throughout and turning the pages. Let’s not forget about the crazy dog (Batshit) that kept me chuckling and stealing the show! I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend you read it for yourself, you will be glad you did.
Passions of a Papillon tells of the healing power of love. And if its instigated by a ball of fluff with big floppy ears well then so much the better. While some of the story is contrived the characters are so sweet you’ll let it slide. Who can resist a sweet little dog, a vet on the run and a lawyer who has lost his way. Take the journey with them and enjoy.
Funny, cute and an adorable dog!
The story of Em and Finn caught me since the beginning and kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time. Sweet, endearing, witty, entertaining and funny, the story even with the few angst is so easy to read and very enjoyable. I loved everything from the wonderful characters, to the interesting plot and all the implicit romance…of course a cute Papillon was the cherry on top. I can’t wait for more books on this series!
What do you get when you cross a dog, a vet, a lawyer, and some criminals? Hijinks galore!
Finn was minding his own business, walking home from a night out, and out pops this little dog. Try as he might, he couldn’t shake him. What’s a guy to do? He brings him home. Trying to figure out how to get the dog back to his owner, he takes him to a vet to seek help. Batshit crazy, aka the little runaway, plays matchmaker, kinda. Before either of them knows it, they’re going to lunch together. Lunch turns into dinner, and the connection grows. Unfortunately, fate has a few connections of its own. Turns out, the past Emerson (the vet) is running from has shown up as Finn’s client. Worse yet, the dog is connected! How bizarre is that?
This book was a lot of fun to read. Finn tried so hard to not like Batshit, and failed miserably. The dog was smart, adorable, and claimed Finn as his. Emerson tried hard not to give in to his feelings for Finn, because it was dangerous. He couldn’t risk it, but eventually, he failed miserably. Their connection was too great.
The writing is consistent with all of Tara Lain’s books I’ve read before. I knew I was going to like it, and I wasn’t wrong. Finn and Em are as adorable as Batshit was. They just needed to get some things worked out before they could get a HEA. This book was book one in the series, and I’m looking forward to the next one. What hijinks can Batshit get into next?

First time author for me , her writing style is solid and extremely well written .
On to the next book now …
I absolutely loved this book. It’s a low angst, sweet romance with some suspense/action and a very intelligent eight pound furry heroine.
Finn is a lawyer for a top criminal defense firm who has worked to provide himself the good things in life but is starting to feel like he’s missing out on something. On his way home one night he finds a little dog who decides to pick him as her person. When he takes the dog to a local vet the next day hoping to foist him off on someone he meets the gorgeous Emerson. Em is a vet with a big secret. As Finn grows more attached to the dog he names Batshit and to Em, worlds begin to collide and not in a good way.
I loved the story building and really loved Batshit. Finn’s growing crisis of conscience is well done and realistic as opposed to some heroic epiphany that never rings true when authors try it. The story arc is wonderfully woven together as the pieces bringing two separate worlds together start to slot into place.
The crisis moment is suspenseful, exciting and amusing all at once. The ending is sweet. I would have liked to have seen the aftermath at Finn’s job after the crisis moment. That could have been a very interesting scene write and to read.
A very enjoyable book that I read in one sitting. Moving on now to an ARC of book two which I am really looking forward to.
Passions of a Papillon by Tara Lain is a contemporary m/m romance. This well written and entertaining story is filled with suspense, action, humor and sweetness. The characters are great in this fun tale and I fully enjoyed getting to know their story.
Narrator is Kale Williams who does a hood job. The recording is clear and smooth and the voicework entertains and is easy to fall into.
Finn is just your average criminal defense lawyer making big bucks by defending rich scumbags. He doesn’t particularly like his job, but he’s not ashamed of it and enjoys the money it brings in. Besides his mother’s nagging, life is going pretty good for Finn – he’s representing a major client and is on track to being the youngest senior partner in his law firm. Everything is going to plan until a fluffy ball of love and mischief yips into his life. With this unexpected development, Finn learns what all dog parents know – there’s nothing you won’t do for your pup. With the help of Emerson, the gorgeous veterinarian with secrets of his own, Finn soon reevaluates what he wants out of his life and the lengths he’ll go to achieve his new vision of the future.
I had so much fun with this book. It was a wonderful mixture of romance, fluff, cozy mystery, and lowkey thriller, but without a lot of the cringe factors I usually find in cozy mysterious and thrillers. Finn and Em never pretend to be super sleuths or vigilantes. They are concerned dog parents who want to protect their baby – which I completely relate to. And their baby – a cute, fluffy papillon named Batsh*t who is part cupid, part escape artist, and all love and adorableness – quickly earned a place in my heart with all her antics. Tara Lain did a really good job with developing her characters. Their actions and motivations made sense throughout the book and stayed consistent with their development and growth. Plus, I have never liked a criminal defense lawyer more than I have Finn Morgenstern. And oh my goodness, the chemistry between Finn and Em was intense and hot – I need my romances to have good and delicious chemistry and I was not disappointed.
I listened to the audiobook that was narrated by Kale Williams and I was impressed by the quality of the production. Kale does such a wonderful job with all the character voices – they are consistent and I had an easy time differentiating between each character. I go running and hiking when I listen to audiobooks, so I need my audio performances to not only be a pleasant listen, but to completely enthrall me and pull me into the story. Kale did not let me down and I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent with this story.
Overall, I highly recommend this book for people who are looking for a fluffy romance that isn’t sickeningly sweet, especially if they like their romance with a little bite and thrill. These men make no apologies for who they are, they know what consequences their actions have, and I found that extremely refreshing. There’s humor, hot sex, a cute dog, and a happy ever after – all the ingredients for a fun time.
Fantastic story! It was fun and entertaining. I love the accidental connections that brought the MCs together. Great Job!
Two men brought together by one dog. Finn and Emerson’s lives are turned upside down by a lovable dog. Each man is dealing with his own worries when their lives collide. They are a lawyer looking to move up the ladder the easy way and regretting it and a vet who has a past, when the special dog brings them together the chaos begins.
enjoyed watching Finn and Emerson find their way to happiness. The two men find something worthwhile with the help of the dog. I had to laugh at the dog’s name and antics, but they did fit. This is a fun and engaging story. Emotions fill this book and it had me laughing at times and feeling the love at others. Their story is a nice light read that had my attention all the way to the end as the two men find themselves fighting crimes and falling in love.
This is such a funny and sweet story. I couldn’t help but love this story. Finn and Em are perfect for each other and I do love them as characters. However of course I think that my favorite character is Batshit. She is just such a loveable little dog. This is such a great storyline and Tara Lain definitely pulled me into this story.
Loved this story so much. The little pup Bat was amazing. The characters were great and thought out. This was a fun story to read.
Delightfully engaging with suspense, humor, action, drama and all the feels. Mix an adorable dog, a driven lawyer and a compassionate vet and you have the beginnings of a wonderful connection. I truly loved the interactions of Finn and the dog who gets an awesome name. I laughed out loud to many of the situations with this creative and adorable dog and his male caretakers. I found the MC’s to be real, vulnerable and well developed which allowed me to like the and root for their happiness. The story-line was creative and yet believable. I really enjoyed how both men were able to bring their best for the other.
Em and Finn are steamy, sweet, funny, a little angst with lots of love. I really enjoyed how these very different men found so much that was similar between them. Their connection was touchable and i loved how they found space in each other’s life.
I was gifted this book from the author and i freely give my honest opinion and review.
‘Passions of a Papillon’ is the story of Defense Attorney, Finn Morgenstern and Emerson Fairweather, a Veterinarian. The book is told in third person with dual pov, except for briefly in the beginning when it starts with a minor character’s pov.
I enjoyed this story. It’s different from the author’s other series, like ‘Balls to the Wall’, ‘The Pennymaker Tales’, and ‘The Aloysius Tales’. The topic was a little more serious and the writing was better. There’s more than one mystery and the author does a good job weaving them in and out to finally meet at the end. However, I did have difficulty figuring out who all the people were for about the first twenty pages. The story doesn’t start with the main character; it starts with a minor character’s pov, which threw me off. Then the story switches to Finn’s pov, but then, many more people are introduced, and it confused me. I didn’t enjoy the first part of the story.
I liked the two main characters. Finn starts out as driven to succeed, he doesn’t even like dogs and wants to dump Batshit at the vet’s or the Humane Society, but he keeps her and she wheedles her way into his heart. Finn is representing a big client, someone who is not on the right side of the law. Emerson or Em for short, is not his real name. He’s been running and hiding and has settled down long enough to open a vet clinic. Gradually, Em finds out whom Finn is defending and Em is ready to bolt. However, he’s drawn to Finn and Batshit and doesn’t want to run again. Things get more and more complicated as schemes are revealed and somehow Batshit is involved. Batshit was awesome. She was pretty fearless, proud, and seemed to have an uncanny ability to understand what humans either were talking about or wanted her to do. Well, except for stop barking. She never got the hang of that.
If you’re looking for detailed sex scenes, there aren’t any except one in the car. Most are fade to black which I liked. This book is focused on the mystery, action, and romance. It didn’t need explicit scenes.
I enjoyed the mystery and the way the author wove everything together. Batshit was a nice touch because her antics kept Passions of a Papillon from getting too heavy and she livened up the action. I recommend this entertaining read and give this book, 4 Stars.
I always know that I have a good story waiting for me when I start a Tara Lain book. Passions of a Papillon is no exception.
This is a wonderful mix of humor, a little angst, romance and a dog that steals the show!
I really loved Emerson (Em) and Finn together, their chemistry and connection jumps off the page.
I enjoyed this story from start to finish!
Passions of a Papillon by Tara Lain was given in exchange for an honest review. This is a sweet story with an honest to goodness dog who saves themselves from an evil owner and chooses who will own her and love her next. Finn is a shark of a defense attorney who helps keep the bad guys out of prison. Em is a vet who is hiding a secret for 6 long years. Finn and Em meet through a very savvy and smart dog whom attached herself to Finn and wouldn’t let go. While Finn is trying to find the owner and keep his client out of jail he finds himself quite attached to the Papillion as well as Em. I really loved this story it had intrigue and a sweetness that is sometimes hard to balance but Tara worked her magic wonderfully.
This book was at different times funny, sad, sexy, and exciting. I loved Finn, Em, and Bat. The way Finn and Em fell for each other after being brought together by the precious pup was swoon-worthy. I enjoyed watching Finn change into the man he needed to be, and I appreciated Em trying to overcome his terrifying past. Batshit was an awesome dog, and she wasn’t afraid to do what was needed in order to find happiness in her own life. These three made a wonderful loving, crime-fighting family. I will be reading this romantic adventure again. Loved it!
Absolutely brilliant book that I could not put down, a real single sitting read. Great stereo typical bad guys, 2 loveable good guys and a scene stealing little princess who is totally and perfectly Batshit crazy…… even this cat lover wants a Papillon now !
