It’s the end we’ve been waiting for. It’s the beginning we didn’t realize we wanted.
Maddie and Tyler have been through so much in their short time together. They’ve struggled internally, externally, and everywhere else you can struggle.
And just when you think you’re getting comfortable, because Huss and McClain lull you into a false sense of security for a good portion of this book, the shit hits the fan.
I was nervous. I wasn’t sure what was going on. I messaged my friends who had already finished and asked them when the other shoe would drop. Because let’s face it, it wasn’t just Maddie and Tyler who felt that something bad was coming. Anyone who reads JA Huss is always waiting for that kick in the ass, that one thing that throws you for a loop.
But really, just when I thought I might come out the other side completely unscathed, they go and kick me in the ass.
And the result? Growth. Growth as a reader, growth as a devourer of the written word, growth as a whole.
The book is about many things. I’ve read reviews from people who didn’t enjoy certain aspects of the book (Tyler’s inner-monologues being a biggie for some), but those were the things I liked. Those were the parts that made the characters stand out and those were the little things that had me saying ‘stick with it, I think there’s a purpose.’ And you know what? There was a purpose. There was a bigger, underlying cause. There was more than just some guy rambling in his own head. There was more than a girl pushing away the one person she always wanted.
There was more.
There was growth.
Growth as individuals, growth as a couple.
Maddie and Tyler at the end of Passion Rising are not the same Maddie and Tyler from the beginning of Sin With Me. They’re more. They’re wiser. They’re together, in more ways than the obvious.
And that’s what I took from this series. Growth. Not staying in one spot. Being more. Doing more. Finding purpose. Finding that one person who makes you a better version of yourself. The person who fills in all the broken bits and makes you whole. The person who loves you when you are at your literal worst. The person–or persons, because friendship goes a long, long way in this story–to build and share and grow with.
So, thank you, Julie and Johnathan for giving me more than I bargained for with Maddie and Tyler’s journey. Thank you for making it deeper and more meaningful than just some hot sex and fucked up scenarios. Thank you for making me cry.
And Johnathan, if you ever read this, the love you have for your wife brought tears to my eyes. I almost came out of this book without tears–almost–but your EOBS left me sobbing. Happy tears. Tears of beauty because there is something beautiful and powerful about the love you have with your wife. For your wife. And the words you used to share that with us, your readers, left me smiling and crying.
This final book in the Original Sin Series had all the feels, such an emotional rollercoaster ride but worth all the laughs, tears and love! The conclusion to Tyler and Maddie’s story is a journey they take together in which the pain, heartache, loss and demons they fight lead them to the forgiveness they need to move on. “Where you go I go” their motto because without each other they have nothing! This beautiful story will capture your heart so definitely grab this MUST read from the amazing Huss/McClain duo!
Passion Rising is the perfect send-off for our wild and crazy couple that is Tyler and Madison. OMG these two can’t help but get into trouble at every turn. But damn if they aren’t the most adorable duo despite the danger. Huss and McClain are one talented writing team and their comedic flair kept even the most dire of scenes a bit lighter.
I figured since their drama-filled days seemed to be finally over, that perhaps Ty and his Mads would just chill a bit and lay low after all the insanity of Mexico. But there is one more obstacle in their way and one helluva surprise that almost befalls them one New Year’s Eve. But what follows is a truly sweet chapter and a one of a kind experience that Tyler desperately needed to finally gain some sense of calm in his life.
The passion is forever there and I loved just how much they could joke and make each other laugh during those sexy times. The thoughts in Tyler’s head could almost certify him a bit on the crazy side but he lives by the seat of his pants and Maddie is right there with him, going where he goes. They are truly perfect for one another.
The entire Original Sin series is an adventure NOT to be missed. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute with these well-crafted and interesting characters, even those who threatened harm every step of the way. The writing is crisp and refreshing and the story-line full of surprises. And a love that stood the test of time and two very stubborn hearts.
5 Stars!!
Well, we’ve made it to the end of the Original Sin series, and I’m a pretty sad panda now. Leading up to this last book, I was super stoked to see what was going to happen with Maddie and Tyler now. By the end of Flesh Into Fire, they had pretty much been to hell and back. The threats they had been facing through the first three books have been eradicated, so what could possibly be next for Maddie and Tyler? Were they finally going to be able to just “be” and get down to becoming acquainted with each other, in more than just the biblical sense?
This last book was quite an emotional journey for this couple. I don’t mean they were on an emotional rollercoaster, I’m talking about them finally delving deep inside themselves, and figuring out what the emotions are that they’ve been feeling. For a long time now, Maddie has been of this mindset that she’s a magnet for bad luck, or that nothing good seems to happen to her, or that she’s been endlessly climbing a mountain that just keeps shoving her back down. And Tyler has just shut emotion out of the equation altogether and avoided anything and anyone that would make him interact and relate to another person on an intimate or deep level. But now that these two are together, they’re beginning to realize that they’ve been going at this life thing all wrong.
The depths that Julie and Johnathan take our beloved couple in the emotional development category is pretty deep. I’ve read plenty of Julie’s books in which a character has some pretty intense, a-ha moments, where things click into place for them. And many a time those scenes punched me right in the gut and left me breathless and teary eyed. Well, that same thing happened in this book, only that emotional punch came from Johnathan and a specific scene that our loveable Tyler experienced. I haven’t decided if I want to find him and smack him for making me bawl, or if I want to give him a hug and thank him for the beauty that scene provided. In its imagery and the feelings I experienced while reading it.
The journey that Maddie and Tyler took us on in this series was a whirlwind to be sure. I laughed, a lot and I teared up, (okay, cried) a lot, and I have gained a newfound respect for authors who take on the complex challenge of co-writing stories. I’ve been reading Julie’s books for a lot of years now, so I already knew that she was capable of producing amazing stories. And now reading this series and seeing the depth of talent, emotions and creativity that Johnathan contributed to this collaboration, I can only say how excited I am to see what they bring us next!
A fitting conclusion to this debut series from writing partners JA Huss and Johnathan McClain.
Leave it to the authors to give us one final heart stopper before we get to HEA, but it just feels good to know Tyler and Maddie are going to be in it for the long haul together.
This is the final book in this series. And at first I wasn’t sure what to expect. I have read all of Huss’s books except the Junco series. And I have loved them all. She always takes us on an adventure and keeps us on our toes. We expect the unexpected. When I learned she was going to start writing with Johnathan McClain I was excited but wasn’t sure what to expect. When I first started to read the series I will be honest I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. I had to put it down a few times. Because Tyler left me feeling twitchy. LOL! He was so all over the place and high strung. (you know how you get around those people who just won’t sit still) they make you nervous. Yeah that was Tyler. Well I stuck with it and I am glad I did. It was beautiful chaos! Tyler eventual grew on me and I loved how Maddie grew throughout the series. And I look forward to see what Huss and McClain will bring us next.
“She’s all I need.”
It’s here! It’s finally here! The ending, the epic conclusion we’ve all been jonesing for! PASSION RISING by the amazing writing duo, J.A. Huss and Jonathan McClain, is the final book in their Original Sin series and all I can say is, WHAT A RIDE! Tragic as it uplifting, beautiful as it is emotional, intense as it is insanely sexy, PASSION RISING gives the readers what they want and that, my friends, is one well earned happily ever after that is only fit for Maddie and Tyler. These two have stolen my heart from the very beginning and I’m still not ready to let them go.
This finale was a little more tame than the rest of the books in the series, but it still knocked me on my ass! These two authors have created something truly special with these characters and I can’t wait for EVERYONE to experience their journey. I have a feeling that this is just a single taste of what these two authors can achieve together, so I am so damn excited to see what they bring us next. An epic finale, a beautiful joining of two broken souls, and a love that could wage any war. I absolutely LOVED this book, this series, and these incredible characters, and I just know that you will too!
Passion Rising is the 4th and final book in the fantastic Original Sins series. We get to say goodbye to Maddie and Tyler, now that the chaos has ended and they can settle down and start their lives together. But, can they really?
I have to say, I have been a fan of JA Huss since her first book released, and have loved every single book she wrote. I was more than a little interested to see how her books would change with the addition of Johnathan McClain. But I don’t really think they changed. It’s strange. It’s like they have been partners forever. I love this series so much. The writing is seamless. I really don’t know who wrote which part or how much of each book was who’s idea. But I really don’t care.
Back to Tyler and Maddie. They say people never change. I disagree. After all, we are in a constant state of change, at least at the cellular level. Change makes us better, usually. People’s pasts are just that. The past. We learn, we grow. We change and adapt. And if two people ever overcame their pasts and changed for the better, it was Maddie and Tyler. Congrats on a wonderful series!!
Tyler and Maddie’s final journey to their own brand of HEA.
Self-discovery. Self-acceptance. Forgiveness; yourself and others. Inner peace. Love. Self-love.
And not fitting was reading their story in time with the New Year (although mine was far less exciting).
I’ve had this series in my TBR for s long time and I’m glad I finally read it. I’m a big fan of JA Huss snd I loved the paired writing by Huss and McClain.
What a ride these books take you on!! This was the final book of the series and I loved this book. I loved the whole series, the characters, the story, everything. The audio narration was brilliant.
This was an amazing conclusion to a fantastic story. Julie and Johnathan make a great writing pair, bringing out the best in each other. I love both characters, Maddie and Tyler, they’ve both struggled so much, in real life and in their minds, but they fought their way out, found each other and thrived.
“Every twenty-four hours there’s a new opportunity for a fresh start.”
The Final is here!
The first chapter was a lot of fun to read, it’s all about Maddie and Tyler connecting, bonding and pretty much fucking from one page to another.
As this is the last book I needed to know ‘is there going to be anything else happening besides these two banging’.
A bit drama happens towards the end and that’s pretty much the whole story. I was happy to see Maddie and Tyler relationship progress but I needed more.
We weren’t sure what to expect, but we do feel that this series probably could have been a trilogy instead of four books, but hey, it was still a great read, just a tad too long for us.
This is the final book in this Original Sinseries and wow what a way to finish. This book really did tie everything up for Maddie and Tyler, obviously they hit a few obstacles in the path to their HEA. I am going to be sad to see the back of these two as they really managed to embed themselves in my heart.
The final twist that Julie and Jonathan delivered near the end really cemented them as one of my must read authors and leaves me excited to see what these two will bring us next.
If you haven’t read this series yet this fix that mistake pronto as you will not be disappointed in it and will love every word and book.
I have really enjoyed this inaugural series that JA Huss and Jonathan McClain have written. It was such a crazy ride throughout the series and we got to see Maddie and Tyler’s range of emotions and all the issues that they are dealing with separately and together.
In this last book of the series, Maddie and Tyler have survived things that should last them a lifetime if not more. They now must deal with their own issues and views that they each have about themselves and see if they both can overcome their own demons from each of their pasts. It is another roller coaster ride of emotions, sexiness and craziness for the both of them.
Thank you for such a great series. I can’t wait to see what this writing duo will come up with next!
Wow, these “two” took the reader on some kind of wild roller coaster! By “two”, I’m talking about the authors, Julie Huss and Johnathan McClain, AND, our book couple, Tyler and Maddie!! I’m not even sure how to classify this series. It started as a “classic” romance between two deeply flawed characters, then our authors wove in a romantic suspense story. This fourth book, which appears to be the final one in the series, completes the love story between Tyler and Maddie. There are a few loose ends that weren’t covered completely, but the ending leaves the reader satisfied.
I truly enjoyed the collaboration between these two writers. Their different personalities came through the “point of view” dialogue of their respective characters. In reading the EoBS, Julie and Johnathan were resolving their books’ storylines much the way Tyler and Maddie were coming to terms with their relationship. I hope there’s a novella in the future that gives us a glimpse into their lives, along with the supporting characters, to see if they all achieved their goals.
WHOA!! WOW!! WHAT A WAY TO END A SERIES!! OUTSTANDING J.A. HUSS & JONATHAN McCLAIN…WELL DONE!!!
This Fourth book series will have YOU Running from the very Beginning & Non-Stop Action!! I DON’T want to give out Spoilers BECAUSE this is A MUST READ BOOK/SERIES!!! HANDS DOWN!!
Tyler and Maddie take you on a Journey of a LIFETIME and Will Need Seat Belts for this Last Adventure of their Lives!! Good God!!
I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS EPICALLY WRITTEN SERIES!!
DEFINITELY NEED TO ONE CLICK THIS BOOK (s) & YOU Will Not be Disappointed!! PLUS YOU WILL NOT WANT TO PUT DOWN ONCE YOU START!! A MUSTREAD BOOK IN YOUR LIFE!!
4.5 “she’s all I need” stars!
It’s always a bittersweet feeling when a series comes to an end, but for some reason, saying goodbye to Tyler and Maddie is so much more than that. Because these four books? It isn’t just putting it as simple as a series—it’s a full-on mental, emotional and hell, even a physical experience. Especially this last book. I can’t even express the impact Passion Rising has left with me. I can’t say that it wasn’t what or how I expected it to be, but then again, this is Tyler and Maddie we’re talking about here. It was a whole lot of crazy, intense and hilarious, but it also tugged at my heartstrings and had my tear ducts leaking.
J. A. Huss and Johnathan McClain definitely took me on a one of a kind and one hell of a journey. This finale… honestly, it gave me peace—of mind, of heart, of everything that this series has put me through—just like Tyler and Maddie found theirs. It’s a blissful kind of healing—one that mends bridges and kisses wounds better.
I loved every single moment of passion, insanity, hilarity and the extraordinary kind of love these two showed and shared with us. I laughed, I cried, I got so choked up multiple times. My lungs seized. My gut clenched. My heart freaking swelled. Passion Rising might’ve not been as action-packed and suspenseful as the previous book, but it was just as wild and brilliant.
The Original Sin series is truly a complete and utter eye-opening experience in and of itself. This is one of those series where you won’t be able to help yourself but scramble to crack open and start reading the next book right after you’ve read the last page of the previous one. It’s just binge-read-worthy. It’s a story that’s certainly full of steam and humor and ridiculousness, but there’s no doubt about the depth and soul Tyler and Maddie’s tale has. It’ll just strike you smack dab in the chest and have you remembering everything for days on end.
Huss/McClain’s The Original Sin series ends with Passion Rising and what an ending it is!
The event of this book begins immediately after Flesh Into Fire. Maddie and Tyler are recovering from their close call with death and working on their relationship–loudly. They can’t get enough of each other. Tyler being Tyler attempts to hide the pain from his injuries but Maddie being Maddie sees through him. I love the relationship between these two characters. It is well done from beginning to end.
What I love about Passion Rising, and the series, in general, is how small crumbs are dropped to take the reader down a path of anticipation. Will this relationship work? Are the outside forces of family and friends going to make them fall apart or hold them together? Are the family or friends really who they say they are? Through most of the book, I expect someone to betray the couple and tragically end everything. While the authors didn’t take me down a path I expected, they did take me through a traumatic experience.
Maddie is a wonderful heroine. My favorite type of female. She is damaged by past pain and suffers over decisions she made along the way. Her brother’s death cut her deeply. She misses him daily and worries that she doesn’t measure up for her parents. However, she is so much more. Maddie is feisty, tenacious and often strikes out without fear. She has a soft and tender side that shows itself with Tyler for sure. It shows in her kindness when she sees a need and offers helps.
Tyler! I don’t even know where to start with him. He has a sexy, dirty mouth that I love. He has a huge heart that matches Maddie. His need to protect is ever present even when he needs protection. His pain and survivor’s guilt is tangible for the reader. I love him to death. I love how he fights through his pain to be whatever Maddie needs.
My heart hurt through this book and the series for both characters. It is brilliant the way this book starts, it feels like everything is falling into place for Tyler and Maddie then one by one the happen across friends and foes who test their relationship. At various times, their pain is so real it became my pain. At one part in this book, a person from Tyler’s past slaps him down again. It broke my heart. Maddie and Tyler dealing with Scotty’s death chocked me up. There is a scene near the end that pulled many different emotions from me. I screamed at my Kindle and Johnathan and Julie— “Don’t do this to me.” Then screamed, “This can’t happen.” I’m not an ugly crier when I read, but this story had me very close to an ugly cry.
The writing is excellent. I love the growth of this couple from book one through Passion Rising. The entire journey is realistic and captivating. I couldn’t put the book down. The complex characters and their development are the solid foundation of this fantastic story. Trust me…You MUST read this series from beginning to end. You won’t be disappointed.
It is funny how I wanted this book so badly. I could hardly stand the wait. Now I find myself waiting again. I’m looking forward to Tad Branson bringing it all to life in audio as only he can. I’m also excited to see what this writing duo has in store for us in the future. Well Done Julie and Johnathan!
What awesome title to go with amazing writing by Julie and Johnathan. The last book of the series of Maddie and Tyler emotional journey. Maddie has always thought she carried bad luck. Tyler has a run of emotions that’s all over the place. Their chemistry is like no other. I definitely recommend this series.
Leave it to Huss and McClain to do something that’s not really done – a glimpse into the post HEA which isn’t an epilogue filled with weddings and babies. There’s nothing about Passion Rising that could remotely be considered an epilogue. Rather, it’s an evolution. Maddie and Tyler put all the old hurts to rest, finish unpacking all their of unresolved feelings and issues, and put the baggage in the attic for good. In between lots and lots of sex and philosophy – how can we end this story without including Tyler’s insane, yet incredibly lucid inner monologues. And in a classic Huss move, a loose end or two rears their ugly heads.
I loved this finale. It gave us some time to linger with my favorite crazy couple once the insanity of their lives died down, we got to spend some more time in Tyler’s fascinating, philosophical head and oh so honorable heart, and we finally got to see Maddie accept the fact that her life can and did get better. And we got SCOTTY in a way that was totally perfect for this story.
I adore the unique blended voice of Huss and McClain. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next.
4.5 stars – only because I was craving more swoon
