FROM A USA TODAY BEST SELLING AUTHOR COMES A STORY RIFE WITH THE INJUSTICES OF THE SOUTH AND RICH WITH THE COMPASSION OF STRANGERS… Book 3 in the Award-Winning Wyattsville Series.
It’s 1946. The war is over. Millions of American soldiers are coming home and Benjamin Church is one of them. After four years of being away he thought things in Alabama would have changed, but they haven’t. … changed, but they haven’t. Grinder’s Corner is as it’s always been — a hardscrabble burp in the road. It’s not much, but it’s home.
When Benjamin attends a harvest festival in Twin Pines, he catches sight of Delia. Before their first dance ends, he knows for certain she’s the one. They fall madly in love; happily, impatiently, imprudently, in love. It doesn’t matter that her daddy is staunchly opposed to the thought of his daughter marrying a cotton farmer, never mind a poor one.
It’s true Benjamin has little to offer; he’s a sharecropper who will spend his whole life sweating and slaving to do little more than put food on the table. But that’s how things are in Alabama. Benjamin is better off than most; he has a wife, a boy he adores, and a house that doesn’t leak rain. Yes, Benjamin considers himself a lucky man until the fateful night that changes everything.

I have loved everything I have ever read by Bette and this one is no exception! This is the 3rd in a series but you don’t have to read the first two to read this book. There are just characters that tie the books together and Bette does a great job of giving you some of their history in case you haven’t read the previous books.
The storyline of …
Probably one of the best books I’ve ever read!
PASSING THROUGH PERFECT is another perfectly wonderful novel by Bette Lee Crosby. Ms. Crosby is a master storyteller.
Her books grab your attention, reel you in, and won’t let you go. Her books are always ones that are difficult to put down. PASSING THROUGH PERFECT is no exception. Ms. Crosby’s books always have a cozy feeling, always remind …
I thought this was just a sweet story!
I loved the story = was disappointed at some events, but everything turned out acceptably so guess that made it ok. I can imagine this actually happening in real life. An enjoyable read.
SWEET STORY!
This is probably a very realistic presentation of what our black citizens endured in
the south (and other places too, I’m sure) before desegregation and even after. How very sad that we do not all see past color to see people, and understand that we are really all alike. It was good to know that the black family in this book were able to find a …
An amazing book with so much drama. I didn’t want to put it down and was sad when it ended. Will definitely read more of this author’s books.
I just loved this book and its heroine. Very good description of what was reality was for young, pregnant girls back then.
I loved it. Really made me think.
It’s a good history lesson for people who don’t understand the history of the treatment of blacks in the south under the Jim Crow laws which legalized the separation of blacks and whites and kept blacks “in their place.”
I love how she develops her stories. You are drawn immediately. I won’t spoil it by rehearsing the story but I will say you won’t be disappointed.
Enjoyed this book.
It was great, gripping and true to life!
Nice read.
Wonderful!
1946 Alabama is racially divided. Benjamin Church returns from the war to help his dad, Otis, in the farm. One night, he meets Delia at a dance and falls deeply in love. However, Delia’s father, a pastor, wants Delia to attend college and not marry a poor farmer.
Delia and Benjamin get married and have a son, Isaac. A series of tragedies and …
This story had me from the first visit. I was totally immersed. Just could not put it down.
I am currently reading this series. So far, I think this is my favorite book. I love the character of Benjamin. He had such a difficult life, yet kept his dignity and humility. This book bought me to tears. It was such an emotional story. Life is not perfect, but we sometimes pass through perfect.
I love this series and am starting book 4 today.
I adored the first two books in this series, Spare Change and Jubilee’s Journey. Once again Bette has us step back to earlier times, where we meet Delia and Ben as they fall in love and fight to stay together despite what other’s may want.
Bette can write with a southern twang. Her descriptions of settings, how people comport themselves and what …
