Growing up a military brat and spending eight years overseas with the Army Medical Corps, clinical social worker, Willa Smith, has had enough of rules and regulations. Still able to work with veterans as she did at the VA Hospital, she is much happier at the new and far more relaxed South Avenue Shelter, until one of its residents is implicated in a murder.
Former military turned security … security operative, Dimas Mazur, has worked for PASS security, his brother’s company, since he returned stateside after a disabling injury. The job keeps him busy, but when a homeless veteran he knows runs into trouble with the law, he doesn’t hesitate to jump in. The strong-headed counselor at the shelter where his friend stayed is an unexpected bonus.
Until she puts herself square in the sights of the man he’s trying to take down.

LIFE & LIMB (PASS Book #2) by Freya Barker is a romantic suspense that has the perfect balance of wonderfully realistic mature characters and a suspense plot line that keeps you turning the pages. Freya Barker’s romantic suspense books never disappoint.
Willa Smith is a clinical social worker who dedicated eight years of her life in the Army Medical Corps in Germany, came home and worked five more years in the local VA hospital working with veterans before getting her current job in the new South Avenue Shelter. Willa grew up an Army brat in a home with very strict, traditional role models that she refuses to follow and prefers her single life.
Dimas “Dimi” Mazur spent two tours in Iraq in the Special forces until he lost part of his leg to an IED. Now, he works for his brother’s company, PASS security. While home between jobs, Dimas gets an urgent call from a veteran brother who lives at the South Avenue Shelter that he is accused of a murder of a fellow shelter resident. With the help of the outspoken, feisty counselor at the shelter Dimi works to exonerate his friend.
As Dimi and Willa grow closer as a couple and work to find the true killer, Willa places herself directly in the crosshairs of the man they are trying to find.
I always love getting my hands on a new Freya Barker romantic suspense. Willa and Dimi and all the characters from the first book who make a return appearance are friends you want to continue to revisit continually. Willa and Dimi are mature with realistic emotions and lives. I enjoy Ms. Barker’s emphasis on older H/h’s that are never perfect, but do not play immature, emotional games. The romantic conflict is solved with communication, understanding and love. The suspense plot is fast paced, believable and intertwined with the romance perfectly. The sex scenes are explicit, but never gratuitous. Even though this is the second book in this series, it can easily be read as a standalone.
I highly recommend this new romantic suspense and all of Ms. Barker’s books for wonderful characters and exciting suspense!
This is a great read. It is action packed, suspenseful and steamy. You get a feisty social worker, a happy go lucky personal security specialist, two sets of totally dysfunctional parents, a cute preteen, the PASS team, a homeless shelter, a fight club and danger.
I loved this story. Haven’t reviewed or read the first one, but loved this one. There are a lot of personalities going on in this book. You have Dimas’ parents which are a hoot. You have Willa’s parents who stiff and proper, her dad being military and the alpha type to the extreme. Willa works at a shelter for the homeless which are mostly military vets. When a death pops up and related to the shelter things take a turn for the worst. Dimas takes a personal interest in Willa and the shelter, since he’s a vet too and lost part of his leg. There is a lot of action, heat and a HEA.
Freya has done it again! Instantly I fell in love with the characters. They are so real and dealing with real life problems. It makes it very easy to relate to them.
So many twists and turns in the story. Lots of surprises, and things I had no idea what happened. There are really amazing hot and steamy scenes. I would definitely recommend this book to friends.
Can’t wait for book three!
Enjoyable characters that are real. It is refreshing to read a story about individuals who have over come challenges such as loosing a limb.
This one has it all
Life&Limb is the second book in the PASS Series and is Dimas and Willa’s story.
Willa is a young woman who has a rebellious nature that her military father and perfect housewife mother could not get out of her. She is strong willed but also smart, beautiful and can handle herself. She served her country and as a veteran she is still dealing with some things. Rosie, from Hit&Run, is a friend and has hired Willa to work with her at the local shelter. They end up getting tickets to a concert in town which PASS is doing the security for. There she meets Dimas, a big, strong, sexy Alpha who is also ex-military. Before long they find themselves together and in the middle of a whole lot of murder, mystery and danger.
This is a very intense and interesting book with a couple strong and exciting characters. They have a lot in common but also are very different which makes for some great interactions and banter. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in this series.
I received an ARC of this book from the author for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
Freya Baker transports you inside her world with each book she writes. She does not disappoint with this one either. Both Dimis and Willa are veterans and when veterans are attacked they fight back to protect others. Great characters. Freya creates believable characters with real lives that that you can relate too. Anxiously awaiting her next book in the series.I I listened to the audio version with the voice readers were perfect for this book. The emotions in their voices improved the entire experience.

Such a great second book in this series. I loved Dimas and Willa. Dimas doesn’t get off on the best first foot with Willa but he loves her fire and decides to ask her out anyway. Willa isn’t looking for anything long term because she feels that to have that she would have to change who she is. When one of the men at the shelter she works at turns up dead, things for her start to get harder. The cops question her when her card is found on him. Then one her other residents is the focus of the cops as a possible suspect. Dimas knows this man so starts his own investigation. Lots of great steam and they story is gripping. Through in Willa’s niece and some family issues and it makes the story more real. Great job can’t wait for the next book.

Dimas and Willa met and he immediately knew that this was one special woman. But Willa was used to being on her own and not willing to change in any way to fit someone in her life. Dimas however liked her just the way she was, unpretentious and beautiful. Then one of the men residing in the shelter she worked at, was found murdered and before long Willa was right in the middle of it. Fortunately Dimas as there to protect her and for once Willa did not object to a man taking the lead. Because they fit so well together and it is no effort being with him, even with some episodes from his time as a soldier. This is another good read from Freya Barker. I love her writing style and the way her characters are portrayed, normal people who could be any one of us, with flaws and all.

I love so many things about this book. I love that Dimas and Willa are older. They both are former military and I love that is book is jam-packed with suspense. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this series.
This was intense in ALL the best ways. I cannot describe just how much I loved this book. It was truly outstanding. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book in exchange for a free copy.
This is book two in the PASS series. Wila is a clinical social worker, has grown up a military brat, served in the Army Medical Corps and now has returned home and works with veterans at the South Avenue Shelter. Dimas is also former military as he returns home after being injured. He is now working for his brother’s Security firm called PASS. A homeless veteran brings these two together when he is wanted for murder. Wila finds herself caught in the middle of a couple things. A well written book with lots of steam, suspense, action and excitement. I cannot wait to read more in this series. Enjoy!

Dimas is my new favorite book boyfriend! Life and Limb was full of steam, tension, suspense, and swoon-worthy moments.
This is a really good addition to the “PASS” or “Protection and Security Services” series. It’s just as good as the first story, maybe even better. This is a very intriguing story and I love the main characters! Willa had a unique family and strives to be something completely different than her mother and sister. She came from a military family and also went in the military. Now she is trying to help Veterans herself. Dimas, former military, suffered an injury and now works for PASS. He witnesses the strong Willa being harassed by someone PASS has had problems with before. Dimas and Willa find themselves involved in a mystery involving Veterans. This a good story with intriguing, mystery, suspense, family dynamics and great twists and turns. This author has a knack for weaving a intriguing and captivating story. I loved every bit of this one!
Freya Barker has done it again. She has given us great characters with Dimas and Willa. Both are strong, smart and resilient. Willa is a social worker at a homeless shelter with daily contact with veterans with PTSD. Dimas and Willa are brought together when a mutual friend stands accused of murder. With underground fighting and shady officials, Barker provides plenty of suspense when bullets start flying and an engaging romance between two equals. Another page turner that grips your attention from the very first page.

It’s great when a book deals well with real issues without them being the main focus of the book. This book does exactly that. The plight of the homeless and their higher vulnerability to being used and abused is highlighted in the work of the shelter that Willla works at. Also the fact that many homeless are ex military is very accurate and the work done by Willa during her counselling sessions shows that Freya has really researched this topic and has a very clear understanding of the matter. It was also well done when our H experiences the same.
It was fab getting a catch up with the previous PASS characters and the Grant cameo was an added highlight. All I all another great boom with unexpected twist and turns throughout. Oh and an ugly/cute dog never detracts from a story.
The second book in the PASS Series a well written story with a very good storyline that kept me turning pages. This is Willa Smith who works at the South Avenue Shelter, she meets security operative, Dimas Mazur who comes to the shelter to help a friend. Great story. Two veterans are dead. Willa is charged in one death, another vet charged in the other. Willa is a social worker at a homeless veterans’ shelter. She was a military brat growing up, and spend eight years with the Army Medical Corps. She’s strong and independent, and afraid to lose herself so she avoids commitment. Dimas is a veteran who suffered a career-ending injury, and now works with his brother’s security company. He doesn’t do relationships. This is no slow burn between them. Once they get over their initial awkwardness, it’s just a matter of time before they explode. They’re both comfortable with who they are, and they’re terrific together. Dimas is the perfect book boyfriend – accepts Willa exactly as she is, not expecting her to change. She’s smart enough to realize when this thing with Dimas is going somewhere, to not deny her feelings. Like the author’s other books, these characters are a little older and more mature, never playing games. Their families are… interesting. Hers, entirely too rigid, especially in their gender roles. His, old hippies stuck in a time warp. And, amazingly, they all get along. Willa has such a special relationship with her niece. This book has everything that I look for from this author, including a desire to read more from her.

This is a incredible book written by an amazing author who never fails to deliver one remarkable story after another. Dimas is ex military who lost part of his leg in Iraq and now works for his brothers security firm PASS. Willa is also ex military now working as a social worker in a homeless shelter mostly devoted to veterans. Loved how attracted they are to each other from the moment they met but neither looking for any type of lasting relationship. He enjoys his one night stands and she will never let a man dictate how her or her life. When some murders start happening and it leads to the shelter Dimas and Willa work to find out who is responsible not knowing that they are working on the same anger which is a underground fight ring and some very well known people are at the top and he must protect the woman he is falling in love with. Loved this wonderful story with wonderful characters and some twists in the end.
