Growing up a military brat and spending eight years overseas with the Army Medical Corps, clinical social worker, Willa Smith, has had enough of rules and regulations. Still able to work with veterans as she did at the VA Hospital, she is much happier at the new and far more relaxed South Avenue Shelter, until one of its residents is implicated in a murder.
Former military turned security … security operative, Dimas Mazur, has worked for PASS security, his brother’s company, since he returned stateside after a disabling injury. The job keeps him busy, but when a homeless veteran he knows runs into trouble with the law, he doesn’t hesitate to jump in. The strong-headed counselor at the shelter where his friend stayed is an unexpected bonus.
Until she puts herself square in the sights of the man he’s trying to take down.

Willa grew up as a military brat, moving around a lot from base to base. She defied family norms by ending up as a social worker in the Army Medical Corps, and later worked at a VA hospital. A granny handed supervisor made an opportunity at a shelter for homeless vets in transition an even more appealing prospect
Dealing with her own ghosts, and the ghosts of her clients, Willa gets tangled in a case that leads to some more complicated options for her future and the revelation of some dirty deeds connected to desperate vets
Intense drama and action packed personal insights and adventure
Secrets, lies and corruption
Once again PASS finds itself in the middle of investigations shrouded in secrets and lies, but one of these hits too close to home when Vets from the shelter start turning up dead. Willa is awesome, like an Amazon warrior, Dimi doesn’t know whether to kiss her or protect her but he does know he is never letting her go….now just to convince Willa she wants to keep him to!
Wills is very independent and determined to never have a man controlling her life, her defensive, feisty nature and her rigid upbringing means she finds it difficult to understand that Dimi doesn’t want to control her life, he wants to share it, by her side.
I love this series and this second book doesn’t disappoint with a great mix of intrigue, danger, deceit and love the PASS team will suck you into their lives and you will never want to leave.
This is the 2nd book in the Pass Series written by Freya Barker and what a book.
In this one we are introduced to: Willa (a social worker who is strong, independent and compassionate)
And Dimas (a veteran, and security expert) He’s driven, caring and protective, but is battling his own demons from his time in the service.
They meet at a VA Hospital, chemistry – off the charts, characters – totally believable, Storyline – very well written.
Loved the interaction between these two.

Book 2 in the series and this is just a good at the first. Action packed and with a HEA, Freya Barker always delivers.
An intriguing book filled with suspense, mystery, and such likable characters you can’t help but welcome them into your heart!
One is focused on her career and one is a player, neither is looking for anything beyond the physical. Or so they think…..
Dimas is a charismatic charmer and hunky player working for Protection and Security Services. He lives in the black and white, with difficulty seeing the gray. Having teased co-workers about their bachelorhood demise. Dimas doesn’t know what to do when he is suddenly face to face with gorgeous Willa. His life changes in a hot minute and becomes filled with gray.
Willa is a tough as nails gal, but with her background she’s had to be. Working with homeless veterans requires a tough exterior, it allows her to do her job and do it well. She may be tough, but she also has a heart of gold and compassion for others bar none.
Dimas and Willa fall into a beautiful relationship that easily grows quickly and grows solid. Which is a good thing because around them things are not going well. People are being murdered and when the police arrive to arrest her, Willa discovers she’s the number one suspect.
I highly recommend this book. It’s a steamy, suspenseful romance filled with angst and intrigue. I really enjoyed the characters. They were relatable and down to earth, with huge hearts. They come with scars, but don’t we all. Their issues give them depth which made the strength they displayed all the more impressive. The niece and Dimas’ parents were fantastic supporting characters! I loved seeing Dimas squirm at his parent’s unconventional behaviors, hilarious! Another enjoyable and well written addition to the PASS series!
I read an ARC of this story. My fair and honest review is voluntary.
A fun read, you meet Willa & Dima. Willa is a veteran who works at a shelter, helping other veterans. When she meets Dimas, wounded vet himself, she isn’t very impressed. Both are very determined individuals and both show their stubbornness in several different parts of the book. When Willa runs into some trouble, he tries to help. With a HEA, that doesn’t go very smoothly, Freya Barker has given a new angle of book with veterans that I think anyone would enjoy. You get intrigue, suspense, romance and comedy–all wrapped up in a very nice read that I would recommend.
