Zoe Lawrence has a Ph.D. in chemical physics at 25. She has been teaching at the local Community College for three years. Zoe has tried dating but it never lasts long. The men are not man enough to handle her brains. That is until a good-looking man takes a seat in the front row of her lecture hall. After class Mac asks Zoe out for a drink and she accepts since Mac is not one of her students. This story is a roller coaster ride through the ups and downs of romance. There is plenty of steam and an ending with a HEA. Highly recommended.
This is a sweet and emotional story. It is a touch heartbreaking but also entertaining with romance, passion and steam. Zoe and Mac are so perfect for each other in so many ways. I like how their story builds and develops.
Addictive!
“The surprise is that wild, passionate part in you that has no inhibitions, no barriers. Considering how planned you are, I never would have guessed she was in there. It surprised me in the best way possible.” — Eric “Mac” Mackenzie
I love how Zoe seamlessly moves between shy and timid and brash and dirty. I also love that she’s wicked smart. She hides beneath oversized frumpy clothes so her students take her seriously and she’s got hang-ups when it comes to the male population but she is fierce, loyal, and loves with everything she has. I think I have a bit of a girl crush!
As for Mac, he is broken in so many ways. Life has stomped on him repeatedly. Despite the number it’s done to his self-esteem and sense of worth, he has protected those he loves to the best of his abilities. He’s built structures that rival the Great Wall. The one unwavering truth through everything is that he loves Zoe in ways he never thought possible. It’s sweet and amazing, as well as heartbreaking. (For this reason, you should keep a tissue handy.)
Their chemistry creates all kinds of ripples in the periodic table which is incredibly hot! I love how they often struggle to come up for air and food.
I’m not sure how I managed to take as long to read this as I did because Zoe and Mac are addictive! I’ll blame it on jetlag. I can’t wait for the next book!
loved it !!! a great start for this new series… love Mac and Zoe… this is their story… the genius and the mechanic… a fast paced love story…the chemistry … the angst… the flawed…broken… heart aching… the misunderstood…

‘Pass Me By’ by Kyra Fox is the first book in her BFF series and tells the story between Zoe and Mac. Zoe, a professor of chemistry and teaching at the community college, and Mac, a mechanic who is attending night school in order to get his degree. They meet when Mac stays to sit in on her lecture and ask her for a drink afterwards. Zoe said no because she thought he was her student, but he wasn’t.
Ms. Summers has written a sweet love story between two opposites who compliment each other. This story has great characters, drama, self esteem issues, tears and laughs, and plenty of heat. I really liked how Zoe and Mac interacted and how their friends got involved with their relationship. This is a great start to what I believe will be a fabulous series and I can’t wait for the next book. I suggest that everyone reads this book.

Enjoyed reading Zoe and Mac’s story as they meet when he is leaving a class at the local college and sees Zoe thinking she is the professors assistant not realizing that she is the professor. These two opposites are attracted but her high intelligence and his blue collar mechanic job does not matter to other of them. Loved the story and the characters chemistry is off the charts.
Zoe is the sassy heroine in her twenties, a genius and has a PhD. She is a professor at a local college and most of the guys she meets are intimated by her brains. Mac is mechanic who’s attending evening classes and just so happen to be sitting outside of Zoe’s classroom when she comes out and he smiling at her. They talk and he asks her out and she agrees. Zoe and Mac are such a cute sexy couple. Zoe and Mac are facing challenging issues.
This is a great read with great characters, page turner, awesome story line with challenging issues that the couple are able to overcome. I love the concept of the nerdy professor and the alpha mechanic taking night classes to better himself and two finding their HEA.

Pass Me By
Mac and Zoe are complete opposites on paper – she is a bona fide genius with an IQ well above the average person, while Mac is a hardworking mechanic trying to make ends meet and take care of his loved ones. She can’t seem to find a man who doesn’t look at her smarts as anything more than intimidating, never staying with her for the long term. Mac won’t let anyone in because of his insecurity about his past and family situation.
Captivated by this beautiful woman who appears at the lecture hall after his class, he waits to follow her out and introduce himself, thinking she is an admin setting up for the next lecture. Only she’s not in admin, she is the professor taking the next lecture on a subject the has no clue about. Unable to move, he stays in her class as well and works on his own assignments as he watches her from the corner of his eye. From there we watch as they get to know one another, and learn about each others insecurities. There is heartbreak, there’s secrets, there’s expectation, there’s love.
Their story was also helped with the addition of other characters. Zoe’s two best friends and their weekly happy hour via video chat. Her cousin and his equal genius to hers. Mac and his Friday night get together pals at the pool hall, and his younger brother going through law school in another State. I’m looking forward to learning more about some of these characters in following books – this being the first book in the BFF series.
I absolutely adored reading this story. Kyra Fox has worked some magic with this one, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a beautifully written love story about two unlikely souls finding one another. About taking a leap into the unknown, and learning to trust others. I give this a solid 4 and a half stars.

Kyra Fox has written a 5-atar book. This is the story of Zoe and Mac. Zoe is a professor and Mac sits in on her class because he wants to take her out. At first, Zoe tells him that she doesn’t fraternize with students. He laughs at her comment and tells her ” it’s a good thing I’m not one. “You’re not?” “Nope.” I’m from Professor Thorne’s course. I only stuck around to ask you out because I thought you were an administrative worker here to set up a presentation for the next professor and ended up sitting through an entire lecture and hydrogen bonding. So I could really use that drink now. She laughs and said “Going for the honest approach, I see. She gets her things together and grabs her coat and turns back toward him. And ‘yes,” I could go for a beer, Mac, as long as you call me Zoe. They spend hours talking but Mac knows it is not going anywhere. Zoe is too good for him. Zoe is enjoying her time with Mac but she knows as soon as he finds out she is a genius he will walk away. Zoe is video chatting with her friends, Trista and Phoebe, and tells them that he was not that into her since she hasn’t seen him again. Trista gets a call from work so she has to take it. Phoebe comes up with a plan for her to see Mac again. Zoe calls Mac and tells him that she didn’t like the way they ended things and she wanted to talk to him. He asked if she would like to come over and she said yes. When she gets to Mac’s apartment, he is shocked by how she looks. He is speechless when she takes her coat off. She is only wearing lingerie under her coat. As he is looking at her, something catches his eye. It is the wrapper of a condom. This is the only sign he needs. Zoe backs up against the wall and Mac walks up to her and starts kissing her. They sleep together and Mac thinks that it is the only time he will have her. It has been over a week since she has seen Mac and she can’t get him off her mind. Mac can’t seem to stop thinking about Zoe and it is causing him problems at work. His boss, Lenny tells him to take a few days off and get his head straight. Zoe is on her way to class and stops to get a coffee. As she is standing in line, and she hears someone say to her “I see you’ve upgraded your leper look.” She doesn’t need to turn around to know it is Mac. “Lecture look, and yes, I figured I could at least wear the right size cardigan.” I don’t dare look back. “Or maybe you just needed someone to remind you what a sexy goddess you are, make you stop wanting to hide behind awful clothes.” My stomach drops. “I’m not a sex goddess, Mac.” I look down at my feet. “I’m nothing like the girl who showed up at your apartment two weeks ago; I’m not entirely sure who that girl even was.” They talk for a few more minutes and he asks her if she is going to asks him why he is there at her coffee shop when he was supposed to be in class. She tells him it is a free country. He said that he was waiting on her. She tells him that he could’ve called. He said that he was scared she wouldn’t answer. She knows that she wouldn’t answer if he had called. She tells him that she can’t stop thinking about him either. But it is better that they don’t see each other anymore. “I’m calling Bull, Zoe. voice. “You’re freaked out that it will be just as good, maybe even better, because when you’re with me, you lose control, stray from the blueprint, and that scares you.” Over the course of just one night, she let him see parts of her that she had barely let any man even glimpse before. If they keep seeing each other, she’ll eventually let him see everything, she’ll give him everything, and she’s deathly afraid that he won’t give her anything back. “Please, Zoe.” His forehead rests on the top of my head as he makes his desperate plea. “I can’t keep going on like this anymore. Please don’t walk away from me.” They end up dating and things are going well for them except Zoe knows he is keeping something from her. He does something every Saturday and he won’t tell her what it is. On Saturday, Mac goes to see his mom and have dinner with her but he doesn’t tell Zoe this or anything about his mom. Mac is waiting for things to change between him and Zoe. He thinks he is not good enough for her. Mac and Zoe were supposed to go out one night and she is waiting for him but he doesn’t show up or call and she gets worried. She waits a little longer and then calls him. It rings five times before he picks up. He sounds like he is on the verge of tears. “What happened? Where are you?” He tells her what hospital he is at and she tells him she is on her way. When she gets to the hospital, he tells her that his mom is gone. He has never talked about his mom and Zoe thought she had died a long time ago. The doctor comes out and talks to them. He tells Mac that he will have to send a report to the police and it will be up to them when the hospital releases his mom’s body until the case is closed. Zoe tells Mac that she will call her dad and see if he can pull some strings to get the case push up to the top. Zoe tells Mac it’s time to go home. When they get home, she asked him if he called Philip. Zoe leaves the room so that Mac can talk to Philip. Philip tells him that he will be there in a few days. Zoe is there for Mac and Philip through everything. On the day they got word from the police about Mac’s mom, Zoe tells Mac that Philip needed to get out of the apartment. He said that he would take him but she tells him that she is taking him. She called her cousin Brian is coming over to keep him company. Zoe and Philip are at the bar that she goes to and they talk about him, mom and Mac. She finds things out about Mac she didn’t know. Things change between Zoe and Mac after his mom’s funeral. It is a little later when the police call and said they needed to talk to Mac. Zoe brings it up and Mac gets mad after she tells him that he needs to let Philip know what is going on. He tells her that it is none of her business and walks out on her. Zoe can’t believe that Mac just walked away from her. Mac finally calls the officer and what he finds out from what he is given is a shock. He calls Philip and tells him he is coming to see him and they need to talk. Everything Mac and Philip have known was a lie. Their mom had lied to them their whole lives.
Will Mac get himself together and go after Zoe.
Will Zoe give Mac a second chance?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

Mac is a mechanic and has self confidence issue. Zoe is a professor and smart as a whip but a limited social life except for two friends who recently moved away.
When Mac and Zoe meet, the chemistry and dynamic between them is amazing and so strong. And might I say hot. But both are flawed and have big issues. It is nice to read how they support each other as they learn and grow.
Such a sweet book and one that I will certainly revisit again in future. Great work!

I really liked this story. You don’t find out what Mac’s issue is for quite a while, but he makes it very obvious he has a big problem. Luckily he finds his Goddess in Zoe. They could not be more perfect for each other. They understand how to handle each other perfectly. Everyone in his life loves her. She has THE best friends in the world. It is a beautiful story.

This story has taken me on an emotional journey, I lost myself in it and realised the reason I had jaw ache was because I was smiling so much. I fell for both Zoe and Eric (Mac), they were such wonderful characters who were strong and vulnerable, my heart broke for them and cheered for them. For me, this was such a wonderful story; structured, developed, emotive, painful, sensitive, honest, hopeful, real, full of great friends, family, pasts, secrets, doubts, surprises and so much love. I want to know what happens next for everyone as I fell for Philip, B, Trista and Phoebe too. I will definitely be re reading this one and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Check out this break out book by new author, Kyra Fox! Great characters coupled with a heart warming story make it a must read!
I love this book and this is my first book by Kyra Fox and Zoe and Eric are an amazing couple with real life problems. The main character feels as that he’s never good enough, and Zoe thinks people only see her brain when they look at her. Eric hides a darkness.

Heartbreaking, heartwarming, sweet and sexy
When Mac first saw Zoe, he never imagined she was a bona fide genius, and her high IQ only served to increase their attraction. What was only supposed to be a one-night stand turns into a sizzling hot romance. And although they’re madly in love, Mac’s secrets, insecurities and tragic past will push their relationship, perhaps even to the point of no return.
I don’t know how I ended up reading Kyra Fox’s books, but I am so in love with them. Zoe is Awesome, with a capital A. She’s super smart and lively, but is lacking in the romance department since most men are intimidated by her, and then comes Mac.
OMG the man is absolutely swoony. His pet name for Zoe was “Goddess.” He cooked, was thoughtful, hardworking, a loving brother. He was just a bit broken, with a heart-rending past he needed to work through in order to be the man Zoe deserved.
I really enjoyed going through Zoe and Mac’s emotional and hot romance, the pain and mostly their passion. Their chemistry was off the charts and Kyra made sure to include plentiful sexy times, as well as touching and fun moments, made even better by the wonderful supporting characters.
I loved Zoe’s BFFs and the happy hour they held despite the physical distance between them, her genius cousin who developed a great bromance with Mac, Mac’s brother was adorable and also a key element in the story. I can’t wait to read more about them.
Pass Me By is book #1 of the BFF series by Kyra Fox. It is a contemporary romance, told from both points of view with a happy ending.
Love it!
Zoe and Mac (Eric) have both had a hard time in the love department. This is an intense sexy story that will make you need a cool shower by the end. I loved this book and can’t wait the see what the author has come up with next.

I enjoyed reading this book. Zoe and Mac are the cutest couple and I loved going on their journey. I felt what they felt and the emotional rollercoaster took me along for the ride!

So much more than a “one night stand” story. Zoe and Mac have a lot mentally going on and each wants more from the other but their internal insecurities keep it at length.
Getting to see the good, bad, secrets and discoveries of these two had me captivated by them. These are more than “characters”, they have a realness about them. Zoe is smart and feels that keeps men away and when she sees Mac, she thinks a night is enough. Mac isn’t attracted to covered up, quirky women but Zoe gets into his head and there is no way she’s getting out anything soon.
They shouldn’t work but thank goodness for Zoe’s friends who are the perfect support system for her. The roads these two have to travel may be full of issues but can they clean that up for the ending they deserve?
I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review
Really enjoyed this heartwarming, sweet romance. Zoe is a young genius who graduated from Harvard with a PhD in Chemical Physics who has trouble connecting with males due to them overlooking her due to her being smarter then them. She meets Mac who at first thinks she is a graduate student teaching class and asks her to coffee. He realizes later that she is the professor and decides at first not to pursue her but later changes his mind after Zoe shows up at his apartment. Zoe is a happy, sassy and self confident individual and is thrill when he wants to continue the relationship. It was a great book and it was nice to see that it was the guy who struggled with self esteem issues and not the girl. Love this author.
