In all honesty, I hardly know where to begin. As I read this book and as I came to the end, there was so much I wanted to say, that I could barely get the words out. And you read it, you’ll see why.
I never reveal the storyline in my reviews and I’m one who never reads the back cover blurb before choosing a book. I want it all to be a surprise. And this author is one who will never disappoint me so I always know it will be a very pleasant surprise!
Pass Me By is a romance, of course, an erotic one, steamy, sultry, and funny too. But it’s a healing story as well for so many of us out there struggling with childhood hurts and pain that’s never gone away.
So I guess what I most want to say here is Thank you, Kyra Fox. Thank you for having the courage to write something so deep, to not be afraid to offer up yourself, your characters, your heart, your soul, and your compassion. This book not only pulled me in, but it brought the characters and their lives right into my living room to stay. Not only did you give me hours of enthralling entertainment, but many more hours of reflection and for many different reasons.
And I truly believe every one of your readers will be better for it just as I am.
I was provided with an ARC by the author.
Pass Me By is my first read by @kyrafox and I was not disappointed. She is talented and delivered a heartfelt but also humorous story.
In ‘Pass Me By’ we Dr. Zoe, our heroine. She is a genius and because of her brains plus the Ph.D. attached to her name, she has trouble finding a man who isn’t “emasculated” by her accomplishments. That is until she meets Mac, our hero, at first he wants to run when he finds out that Zoe is a professor at a community collogue and not a technical assistant as per his initial thoughts.
But our sassy heroine goes out of her way to un-friendzone herself. And the two start a beautiful yet troubled relationship with lots of steamy moments.
Zoe is all into the relationship but Mac has demons that hold him back and although he loves Zoe, his past does not allow him to fully let go and accept to be loved.
After many twists and turns, Mac faces his fears and the two are able to find their happily ever after. And the epilogue is so sweet.
Overall, this was a great story with great characters that will leave you wanting more at each page turn. The author was able to transmit so much emotion through her writing and I look forward to the next installment of the BFF series.
I adored Pass Me By, the first book in the BFF series, and it is a romance novel by Kyra Fox. The story is about a mid-twenties young woman named Zoe, who is a chemistry professor, with a PhD, that she earned at an unusually young age, and she teaches at a college in Boston, MA. Zoe is very lonely because her two former roommates have left Boston and have moved to other cities to further their careers, leaving her alone in their apartment. Zoe has never really had any long term relationships with guys because they are usually intimidated by her high IQ. She refuses to “dumb down” for any guy who can’t handle that she is very intelligent, and due to her past experiences Zoe has developed low self esteem. and has given up trying to date again.
One day, before her class is to begin, Zoe notices a very attractive young man sitting at the front of the lecture hall who is staring and smiling at her. After her lecture has concluded the man approaches Zoe, and talks her into going for coffee with him. The man, who is named Mac, had been attending an engineering class that finished just before her class began, and he decided to stay for her lecture due to his attraction to her beauty and intelligence. Mac works as a mechanic and has not had an easy time in life, and has built up many walls around himself to avoid being hurt. He doesn’t feel that he deserves to have a long term relationship because of issues from his past.
This is how this story begins, which I could tell from the start would be an emotional read. The story is romantic, sexy hot, and sad at times, but never fails to keep you glued to each page. I loved all of the characters and I feel the story was not only very entertaining, but shared a great message for any woman, being that a person should not ever feel that they should have to act less than intelligent for the sake of someone else’s ego. We have to be true to ourselves to truly be happy, and we should never have to settle for anyone. Most of all I just enjoyed that this was a really good romance novel! I will be reading the rest of the books in this series!
Loved the book, the story was well written and the characters were intriguing. Once I started I could not get enough, from the start till the end I was engrossed I was even on the edge of my seat with twists and turns, lust and passion, strength happiness and funny. The story of sensation. Do yourself a favor and buy the book you want be disappointed.
Thank you for allowing me to review your book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is so sweet adorable and quirky I loved it so much. Then it got real and gutted my heart out. I love that the charters aren’t perfect but they get their happy ending. Small warning though mental health and drug abuse is in the book so read at your own risk. It has a beautiful happy ending though.
This is my first foray into the mind of Kyra Fox, but it won’t be my last. She manages to keep readers interested while masterfully sharing just enough detail to make the pages fly by in the quest for more. Eric and Zoe both had some insecurities, but Eric’s were far deeper, and it took quite the catalyst to get him to finally open up to the possibility of having more in life. I’m excited to jump into the next book in this series to see if the author’s mojo continues.
Beautifully written!
This is my first book by Kyra Fox, and I loved it! Zoe and Eric are an amazing couple. Written perfectly with real life problems. Eric feels as though he’s never good enough, and Zoe thinks people only see her brain when they look at her. Eric hides a darkness within himself that keeps Zoe at arms length and eventually becomes their downfall. He walks away from her knowing she is the light to his darkness, the heart in his chest, and the love he doesn’t deserve. This story is an emotional journey that you can’t help, but read on and find out if he gets the girl back…. Do you think he can fight his demons, and come out unscathed? I don’t know if anyone can ever overcome the darkness he has lurking in the shadows of his heart, but I know he tries… Take the leap and begin this crazy roller coaster ride… The ending is totally worth it. I fell in love with each of the characters in this book for different reasons, and so will you… I can’t wait for the next installment in the BFF series!
This book reminds me of why I love the romance genre. The sexual tension that is paired perfectly with the intimacy that’s built between the two: Zoe and Mac.
Zoe is a bonafide nerd graduating with a P.h.D. in her early twenties. She whip-smart and nobody’s damsel to be saved. She knows herself. She knows how to get what she needs and how to keep what she doesn’t want away— heartbreak.
Mac, even though he presents like a light-hearted hottie, is sprung from a complicated past that has all the makings of a broken alpha.
Zoe and Mac melt each other’s walls and challenge each other to become the best version of themselves. It’s in that intimacy that some of the sexiest scenes in this book are made.
While reading this novel, I wondered why it took me so long to get to! That will never happen again. As soon as the next one’s out it’ll be glued to my eyeballs!
This is the first kyra fox book i have gotten the chance to read and I am hooked. Loved every damn thing about this book. From the fact that kyra hoodwinks you into believing its miss nerdy pants with the issues to the fact that there is so much more to rip your heart out in these words. Thank you for everything I love in a book: heart, comedy and hope.
Pass Me By is an excellent lesson in relationships. Fox doesn’t shy away from difficult topics, nor from those often considered taboo that the majority of us tiptoe around. Yes, there is a lot of well-written sex in this book.
But there is so much more to this book which explores the depths of a true relationship and particularly illustrates how important vulnerability is. It is hard to let go and trust another with our secrets, especially when we’ve lived very scarring pasts that we allow to define us. Opening up to your partner is such a crucial part of what makes a relationship work and it has to be mutual, which Fox shows to perfection.
There were some aspects of this story that didn’t do it for me, but it is a matter of personal taste, so if you enjoy explicit, steamy romances and deep life lessons, you’ll probably LOVE this novel.
I just loved, LOVED this story!! Zoe and Mac are incredible characters and the story is beautifully written. I could not put this one down and was drawn right into the story. I cant wait to read the next book in this series!
The most obvious difference to the usual alpha hero billionaires is that this is a story of two real, ordinary people. A very brainy college professor and a car mechanic going to evening classes. It is as if you were right there, in real life with real people. And it works marvelously. Author Kyra Fox has such a way of narration that her characters spring to life. The ordinary becomes extraordinary and the mundane suddenly becomes interesting in every minute detail. I love with how much sensitivity and compassion towards her characters Fox tells this love story, how mature and empowered her heroine is without taking on male aggressive traits but staying centred in her feminine energy. This book is surprising, amazing, sweet and incredibly hot, all rolled into one. A definite must read!
I really enjoyed this story, admittedly i was sceptical about it as it seemed a little rushed but the more i read the more it all fitted together. Kyra did really well with how she approached this storyline with Zoe & Mac, laughter, steamy moments and the serious ones that caused a moment of pause, with tears to my eyes. Look forward to reading whatever comes next
This is my first book by Kyra Fox who generously provided me with this copy.
This is the first book in the BFF series and features Mac and Zoe. I loved both of these characters so much and how very real they were. This was such a great book and I loved the character development and watching how they grew. You can’t help but to love Mac and Zoe and root for them. Zoe is the sexy genius and Mac the broody swoon worthy hero. These two will really steam up your ereader!
I went into this book blind & I’m glad I did. I won’t reveal what happens so you can be surprised with every revelation! Don’t miss out on this book it bring so many feelings!
I’m not even sure how to begin with this review! You know those books, the books that after you read a couple pages you have that, oh this one is going to be epic feeling. This, this book is one of them!
I literally couldn’t put this story down, I devoured it! Between the characters, the storyline, the phenomenal writing there was nothing to not love! I sincerely hope you grab this one up and give it a go, you won’t be disappointed!
I truly enjoyed this book. It was a tad slow to start, but once it got going, it was totally worth it. It was sweet and sexy with a good amount of heat that was tastefully done. I was also genuinely surprised by the ending. I like novels that have substance and this one did. The only thing is, I wish the mental health issues were fleshed out a little earlier instead of teased out. All in all, though, I found this read to be excellent and worth your time.
Kyra Fox has a new fan. It’s me…I’m the new fan…you guys, I read an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. Kyra sent me this a while back and I finally sat down to read it last night thinking I would just read some of it (at 11:30 pm). I’m an idiot, this book sucked me right in and I’m currently so hyped on coffee that it’s hard to type, but, wow. This was a good book. Mac and Zoe are all the good things, relatable, sexy, full of chemistry, quirky, did I mention sexy? The heat is real, the problems they face are realistic, the way they get through it all made you cheer for them at the end. No spoilers here, just go get a copy and settle in for a few hours. You’ll be glad you did.
Kyra, I will most definitely NEVER miss an opportunity to read one of your books!
Pass Me By… I’m speechless!
Everything. Just everything. Sexy, sweet, funny, heartrending. It’s been a while since I read a book that made me FEEL every single emotion on every single page.
Zoe and Mac are amazing and I can hardly wait to see what’s next for B and Trista!
Pass me by by Kyra Fox is about Zoe, a sassy heroine with a genius IQ. Like most young adults, she’s struggling with the transitions of life after college. She is now separated from her life long best friends and experiencing intense loneliness. To add to the struggle, her IQ makes her different and intimidates men. She just needs one night of human connection to scratch an itch, so when dark and broody Mac shows up in her life, she takes the one night she needs.
Mac is hiding secrets and a dark side, so when he encounters the vibrant Zoe, he knows he can only offer her one night. He isn’t good enough for her, but he still wants her. Past and present come crashing together in this mysterious, dark and sensual romance novel.
Kyra Fox’s writing flows effortlessly and her characters are so much fun. Not only did I love both of the main characters, but the supporting characters as well. I, a total introvert, want to hang out with this crew. I would even (reluctantly) leave my house to do it. Although there is a focus on the loneliness of separation from her friends, they also do a great job of protecting their friendship and cultivating new routines. The dynamic between these three girls is refreshing and fun. Their loyalty is inspiring.
Pass Me By has so many life lessons sprinkled in on topics including mental illness, work ethic, family dynamics, friendship and more. Through all of this, Kyra Fox creates a sense of mystery, while throwing in a lot of steam. The relationship between Zoe and Mac is HOT, but the questions start building up. My mind was switching between trying to fill in all the blanks with worst case scenarios and giving the benefit of the doubt.
This book was unique and kept me interested from beginning to end. I cannot wait for the next book in the series! I highly recommend Pass Me By to fans of contemporary romance, sexy scenes and intrigue and mystery. Also, if you’re like me and love a dark and broody male lead, this one is for you.
*I received a free advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
