Interview with the Author
Paris Ever After is a standalone sequel to The Paris Effect. So I don’t need to read The Paris Effect first?
Correct! Each book can be enjoyed on its own, but like a café crème and macaron, they go great together. Both stories take you on a journey through Amy’s Paris, a Paris few casual tourists ever see. But each story has its own path—a surprising, often unpredictable path of self-discovery as Amy struggles to confront the challenges being thrown at her.
What inspired you to write the book?
Readers made me write it! I was privileged to be invited to more than a dozen book clubs that had read The Paris Effect, and it was unanimous: People really wanted to know what happened next. Their questions got me thinking, one idea led to another, and voilà, a new book was born. And spending more (virtual) time in Paris was not exactly a hardship. The next best thing to being in Paris is writing—or reading—about it!
What kind of story is it?
Some say it’s a roller coaster ride, and it’s true that a lot takes place in a short period of time. But it’s also a love story—Amy’s love for her new friend Margaret, for her best (and lost) friend Kat, for her husband (in spite of all that’s happened between them), for her unborn child, for Paris, and a new love. Just like in real life, the characters are flawed and not everybody always does the right thing. Amy learns a great deal in this often-humorous-sometimes-shocking story.
Many books have been written about Paris. What sets yours apart?
Who doesn’t like a Paris love story? Paris is the ultimate dream destination, and it’s truly as beautiful and romantic as it’s cracked up to be! But as Amy learns, it’s also a multilingual, multinational metropolis of street hustlers, diesel fumes, and pickpockets. Throughout both books, Amy gets to know the real Paris. And so will you. Thanks for reading!

4 stars
So, I hadn’t read the first book in the series so I liked that the author did a little catch up at the beginning so I had a little understanding about what had happened already. It didn’t take me long to get into the story either which was great. I loved the setting for the story and the way in which this author described Paris I did feel like I was there at some points. The story had a pretty good pace to it and some good twists and turns.
I have to be honest and say I really struggled to connect with Amy, maybe if I had read the first book I might have understood her a little better, but I just didn’t really find her very relatable. I did however enjoy reading her story and trying to understand her thinking.
I think it is definitely worth reading book 1 before this one, I am sure I would have had a slightly better reading experience, however I really cannot fault the beautiful descriptions of Paris that they author used. People who have read the first book will definitely love catching up with Amy and seeing what happens with her next.
Can an almost 30-something run away from home? And not tell a soul where she’s going? Amy Brodie seems to have accomplished just that. She runs to Paris, the City of Light and hopes that her life will change. Who cares about the life she leaves behind or if anyone actually misses her…
The dreaded thirtieth birthday comes, and two visitors leave her wondering if she really wants to hang onto this new life she’s struggled to build. Her husband, Will, shows up—but is he interested in reconciliation or separation? And a young woman who arrives on Amy’s doorstep brings news that could push Amy out into the street.
Will Amy stay in Paris or, return to the stability of Will or will she really settle in Paris? She must choose between two very different worlds, for better or for worse
This is the second book in this lovely series. Paris holds places in so many people’s hearts. With Amy, it’s a place she felt safe, that allowed her to grieve when she first came after her best friend’s death. And after her marriage reaches a crisis she makes a beeline back, bringing with her issues she needs to deal with. How does she feel about telling Will his parting gift to her may change both their lives forever.
Can she share her news with him and see if there is anything left of the marriage? What will her future hold: Paris or Phoenix?
This was a lovely book for an admitted Francophile like I am. K.S.R Burns’ novel was hard to put down, I was quickly taken with this story. Paris Ever After is a great read, perfect for your summer reading list, and I will certainly keep her in my sights for further stories. Highly Recommended 5/5
[disclaimer: I received this book from NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it]
I didn’t realize until the end of this book that it was a sequel. So having not read the first book, I think I missed out on some of the background. However, I enjoyed the book enough that I bought “The Paris Effect.”
I was not a fan of Amy at the beginning of the book. I felt like she was a little self-absorbed, but as I got further involved in the book, I began to understand her better and the decisions she made. There are some quirky characters and you will love some and hate others!
I felt like Marguerite’s nervous breakdown was a little bizarre. It did not seem to be resolved in a believable way.
There were some twists and turns and I loved how Amy’s adventure in Paris gives the reader a delightful tour of this delightful city. You will also be exposed to an emotional journey as life brings surprises, anxiety, anger, friendship, and love to Amy.
Thank you to NetGalley and Velvet Morning Press for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I give 5 stars to Paris Ever After (A Novel) written by K. S. R. Burns.
Paris Ever After is a standalone sequel to The Paris Effect.
This was a first read for my self from this author and I’ll really enjoyed, this read, the best was that it took my imagination and definitely ran wild with me with the gorgeous streets of Paris and the Café.
Amy hits a stalemate at home so decides to make a change and leave for paris, leaving her family, friends and husband behind.
As most people are aware with life things never go easy. Even with all that paris has to offer her past and present collide and some life changing decisions have to be made.
Now with writing this review I’m on the second chapter of the first book in the series it has captured me for a feel good read about a person a little lost in life.
Magnifique! Fall in love with Amy as she stumbles through her new life in Paris, gradually learning what means the most in her unscripted world. Burns’ dry sense of humor and intimate knowledge of Parisian life are woven through the story as perfectly as the Hermès scarf in one of the book’s most unforgettable scenes. Heartwarming and full of colorful characters, the surprise-filled narrative is smart, wry and poignant. You won’t want to put it down. Five stars!
Paris Ever After picks up from The Paris Effect which detailed Amy’s escape to Paris after her best friend Kat died. I admit, I wasn’t a big fan of Amy’s in The Paris Effect but she has won me over and I love this character. So much in her life has changed, she has experienced an amazing adventure, made new friends, adjusted to Paris life and customs and started to take pleasure in her life. Amy’s character has grown, her life is still a bit chaotic and she is still figuring it out. Paris Ever After is full of secrets, humor, surprises and drama. Paris life is beautifully woven throughout this chick lit/women’s fiction and I felt like I was visiting Paris firsthand. Enjoyable colorful cast of characters and engaging storyline with twists I didn’t see coming.
Paris Ever After is the sequel to The Paris Effect. Can be read as a standalone but I really think you will benefit from reading The Paris Effect first.
An easy, light read about an impulse trip to Paris that helps the protagonist get through a rocky period in her life. Lots of observations about being a foreigner in France, although she can be a little scatter-brained at times. A quick read for Paris lovers.
I was so taken in by it, I stayed up ‘til 2 and 3 in the mornings… Amy’s thought processes were so authentic. Her friends were so well characterized, I could see them in my mind. Many parts of Paris came to life through the author’s vivid descriptions. The small amount of French vocabulary ,in the story, was naturally interspersed and added to my enjoyment. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.
Paris in the spring? No. Paris in the fall! Paris Ever After by K.S.R. Burns is set in the fall, when summer sunshine blends with colorful leaves, and a good croissant and cafe au lait are the perfect treats. I loved this immersion into the Parisian’s Paris, along with the page-turning story about love, friendship and finding oneself. The characters, quirky and fun, are unforgettable. And we all can relate to Amy, the protagonist, who little by little, discovers who she is and where she belongs.
Paris Ever After by K.S.R Burns is book two of the Paris Forever series. This book can be read as a standalone. This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I really enjoyed the time I spent reading this book. It was interesting to read this book and feel like I was immersed in all things French but not drowning in a bunch of stuff that took away from the story.
Amy never realized quite how bland her life was until she experienced her Parisian adventure. However, rebuilding her life wasn’t as easy as one would think it should be. It proves even more difficult when she receives two visitors and now has to decide which direction she will move in. How does she choose between two different worlds?
This book was a fun read. There were some twists which really keep you intrigued. I couldn’t put it down!
Paris Ever After is a Second Chance Romance Novel written by K.S.R Burns. The first story is The Paris Effect, Paris Ever After is the continuation. This story starts off with a very brief section that tells you what happened in the Paris Effect, hopefully you read it first). William is back and he’s looking for Amy after their last fight and her being gone all summer. But Amy has a big surprise in store for William…
The story was an addicting read in a unique way, you feel for Amy with everything going on with William. This story is about second chances in not just love but life in general. Amy makes a split second decision that will change her life in more ways then she can imagine. That ended up being the best and worst choice of her life but she makes the best out of it.
Paris Ever after by K.S.R. Burns is a nice little story that is part of a series. Paris Ever After picks up where the Paris Effect ended, but the previous book doesn’t have to be read in any kind of order to understand the story. You can still enjoy this book when read before or after. They both are standalone so that’s nice if the first one didn’t work for you. After the death of amy’ best friend we find that Amy has made some unexpected decisions that found her living in Paris and separated from her husband.
At some point in the time Amy is living in Paris, she gets an unexpected surprise that changes everything and how Amy sees the world it forces her to consider her situation and decide if she is really ok. Amys husband eventually shows up and that’s here I’ll stop. You’ll want to check this book out and see what happens in this standalone that can also be read as if a follow up to the first book.
This was a jam-packed little novel from K.S.R. Burns. She takes us on a magical journey through Paris, and on a wild ride of a story line for Amy, the main character. I found myself devouring this book in a very short amount of time. I wasn’t disappointed with the ending and appreciated the fact that there is a happy ending. This is apparently the second book about Amy, but I don’t feel it is necessary to read it before picking up this one. There is enough of a backstory shared with the reader to keep you up to date and aware of what is going on in Amy’s life.
We find Amy in Paris, fulfilling her dream that she shared with her best friend, Catherine, who is no longer with her. The two had this trip planned for a long time. Unfortunately, Catherine isn’t able to see this dream come to fruition, as she has recently lost her battle with cancer. When Amy’s marriage becomes a bit rocky she takes the opportunity to pack things up and go to Paris. K.S.R. Burns does a wonderful job of bringing to life the wanderlust of the city of Paris. From the descriptions of the places that Amy visits to the food that is consumed and made, you feel as if you are there experiencing the city along with Amy.
Things go well for Amy at first. She manages to find a place to live in Margaret’s home. Margaret has a daughter, Sophie that is missing and has been for two years so she has the room to spare and the desire to help a young woman that is in need. That is until Sophie shows up and demands her place in her home back. This is just one obstacle that Amy is faced with overcoming.
The other obstacle is Amy’s estranged marriage to husband Will. She hasn’t told him that she is carrying his child and isn’t sure how to break the news to him. Suddenly though he thrusts himself back into her life when he shows up in Paris. He isn’t necessarily there to reconcile though and has a big secret of his own. I wasn’t a huge fan of Will though I did see where the need for a protagonist is necessary in this novel.
Where will Amy go from here? She has found herself in some complicated and difficult situations. She has a baby cooking by her ex, and he has someone new that promises to disrupt any chances they have of making their marriage work. Will Amy return home in the states or decide to stay in Paris and make a life for herself and her daughter? There is a love interest for her that promises to make the book that much better and add a twist that one didn’t see coming. Will she end up getting her happily ever after?
I can honestly say that this being my first read of K.S.R. Burns I was pleasantly surprised with all the action that was packed into a concise and short novel. I found myself breezing through it and wanting more. I will definitely go back, even though it isn’t necessary, and read the first book to have the extra background of the story. I found this the perfect escape read for an afternoon in the sun.
Paris Ever After (A Novel- Paris Forever Book 2) by K S R Burns was everything I look for in a novel. Paris, French food, a little foreign language and fascinating characters. Although it is book 2 in a series, I didn’t realise that when I picked it up and having the “previously” section at the beginning helped to catch the reader up with part 1.
Following the death of her best friend, Amy has escaped her suburban life with husband William in Phoenix and moved to Paris alone. But on her 30th Birthday things start to unravel in her new “happy ever after” and she finds she needs to make some difficult choices.
This novel was easy to read and I loved the descriptions of Paris through the eyes of a newcomer who has made it their home rather than from a native. I especially liked visualising the places she visited, the food she ate, observations she made and the quirky people who had become her family so far away from home. This story made me laugh (and cry at times) and had enough intrigue and a good storyline to keep me hooked until the end. A four-star read and a must for Paris fans/ Francophiles.
Paris Ever After: A Novel by KSR Burns is a story about following your dreams and taking the time to figure out what you want, then grabbing it with both hands.
Have you ever thought about reinventing yourself? About changing your life and doing something entirely new and different? That is exactly what Amy does when she jet sets off to Paris without telling a soul where she is going.
Once in Paris Amy’s reinvention begins. New friends, new experience, she is after it all. But despite her best intentions everything is not quite going to plan.
And when her husband turns up as well as a mysterious woman, Amy begins to wonder if a new life in Paris is really everything she thought it would be.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I found it highly entertaining. It was amusing reading about Amy’s adventures in France and did a great job of making me wish I was there right alongside her. The characters were all well developed and worked with the story. The writing had everything you could want for this type of story and carries you through the book with ease. A great book for sure!
Paris Ever After by K.S.R. Burns
Four Stars
Paris Ever After: A Novel is the second book in the Paris Forever series by K.S.R. Burns. This book can be read as a stand alone, as this is the first book I have read by this author, and I was able to jump right in know what was going on. However, I think reading book one of the series would have left me with a better understanding of the characters and how they interacted. This book was full of wonderful thing about Paris, and it seems like it would be a great place to visit. Amy is such a strong and wonderful character. I enjoyed reading about her path that she takes dealing with her grief and the problems that come when her estranged husband unexpectedly shows up in Paris looking for her.
This book is full of surprises and the emotional ups and down. I’m going to go back and read the first book to see what I missed. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from Ms. Burns.
PARIS EVER AFTER is book 2 of a duet. I did not read the first book and love the recap in “previously”.
This is a story and travel journal all in one. Amy is the protagonist and she is creating a new normal while visiting Paris. She has some interesting friends and experiences.
From the cover, to the.locations and the adventures in between – this book is a visual tale. The writing allowed me to”watch” the story as I was reading it. There are many layers and lots of characters who have complexities that allow the story to bend and change.
I have a confession… I do not remember much of my college French class but as I read the French words, I didn’t with a HORRIBLE French accent. ~taking a bow~ Merci
An enjoyable, solid 4 star read.
Paris Ever After by K.S.R. Burns a four-star read that will have you dreaming. This is a sweet romance that will take you away, but will it take you far enough? Amy is a woman that you will either adore or want to shake, I’m glad to say I was more on the side of adoring for most of the story. But I can’t say that about the rest of the characters, some of them you will like more than others. But I will leave that for you to decide when you read the story. What I loved most of this story is the way Paris is described by the author, you will fall in love with it as much as some of the others. This is the second book in the Paris Forever series, but that doesn’t mean you have to read this second, as the author does spend the first part of the book filling you in on the first book. If you like your romance sweet but dramatic and your story strong then this is the one for you.
Paris Ever After by K.S.R. Burns was an delightful, heartfelt read that had that cheesy TV movie romance vibe I love so much!
This was my first read by K.S.R. Burns, yes I did not read that first book, but, I didn’t need to. This book was so masterfully written that, I got that I needed from Amy’s recounts and, with proper info placement, felt like I was reading a stand-alone, not a continuation.
I love Amy, for me, from the start of this book till the last, she grew exponentially. I saw her come to terms with her past and realized that somethings change rapidly and they do sadly, fall apart; but when they do you have to pick yourself up and find a way to move forward. This story line was full of ups, downs and of course, as the names implies, a happy ending. I loved the epilogue, it tied everything up nicely and gives you those warm fuzzy feels, that you can’t help but smile at. It was still opened enough that maybe down the road, it could be revisited and we can get some sneak peeks into their lives. (I want a side story about Margaret in her younger years.)
The only thing that bother me, was there was some over explaining, on Amy’s part and a little too much filler in-between dialogue. It took away from the conversation flow, and didn’t add anything to the overall impact of the story. (This is something I like to call, going down the rabbit hole. don’t start taking about things no one asked for, and don’t try and re-explain something that was just said.)
Outside of those little things, I loved this book. It made me feel like I was walking in Paris with Amy. You can feel the time and research that went into making this romance in Paris come to life. So please, please, take my high recommendation that you will not only fall for Amy’s journey, but Paris itself.
Happy Reading
-E.A. Walsh
Paris Ever After: A Novel (Paris Forever Book 2) is a fun and quirky read. This is my first time reading anything by this author and it was a fun experience.
I didn’t know that this was the second book in this series until I read the beginning of the book. I thought that the author catching us up in Amy’s life without having to read the first book was clever. I will go back and read the first book since I enjoyed the second book so much.
When Amy’s best friend dies, she heads off to Paris without telling her husband. She is starting to really enjoy her life again. I love the journey that Amy takes and the friends she makes along the way. Can Amy and her husband reconcile? Will her new-found friend Margret stay true to their friendship?
This story was so colorful and full of life. Sometimes I thought I was in Paris with Amy. Paris is a place I never wanted to visit, but K.S.R. Burns makes me want to change my mind. I read through this book so fast because I wanted to know what would happen to Amy or how she was going to navigate a situation. This was a great way to be introduced to a new author. Oh and the cover of the book is fabulous!!
