A BUSTLE PERFECT VACATION READ USA Today BestsellerFrom #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jackson comes a new novel of nerve-jangling suspense as a woman haunted by guilt realizes that nothing can be trusted—not even her own memory . . . There are people in Edgewater, Oregon, who think that twenty years ago, Rachel Gaston got away with murder. Rachel still has no idea how a foolish … who think that twenty years ago, Rachel Gaston got away with murder.
Rachel still has no idea how a foolish teenaged game turned deadly—or who replaced her soft pellet air gun with a real weapon. When a figure leapt out at her from the darkness, she fired without thinking. Too late, she recognized her half-brother, Luke, and saw blood blooming around his chest.
Despite counseling, Rachel’s horrifying dreams about that night continue. Her anxiety contributed to her divorce from Detective Cade Ryder, though he blames himself too. But as Rachel’s high school reunion nears, she feels her imagination playing tricks, convincing her that objects in her house have moved. That there’s a hint of unfamiliar cologne in the air. That someone is tailing her car. Watching her home.
She’s right to be scared. And as connections surface between a new string of murders and Luke’s death, Rachel realizes there’s no escaping the past, and the truth may be darker than her worst fears . . .

The characters were realistic, suspenseful, a mystery to be solved.
As always, Lisa Jackson kept me on the edge of my seat! Great read!
This was one of those books you just knew would twist and turn until the very last page. Loved Lisa Jackson’s character development and the setting in the Pacific Northeast. I listened to the audio version, and I loved it! Highly recommend.
This is one of those books impossible to stop reading. The fear crept up slowly and took hold of me and all I wanted to know was: Who would do such a thing and why? Maybe Rachel isn’t as innocent as it seems and has everyone fooled? And who is the one talking to the therapist? And can the killer in the past be the one in the present? Loved everything in this book and enjoyed it tremendously. Highly recommended!
MC has lived her life feeling guilt. Now secrets are coming out, but what do you do when the truth isn’t matching up with memories?
I enjoyed reading this book. I didn’t want to put it down, because I wanted to find out who was behind all of the deaths that were occuring. I kept guessing, but didn’t figure it out until the end when the pieces all started to come together.
What amazing page-turner of a book can never go wrong with Lisa Jackson but she has outdid herself on this one.. the character she picked were amazing fit you really become apart of their life and really want to figure out the ending along with figuring out the mystery of who really killed Luke and if Rachel will ever move on.
What a wonderful job that Lisa Jackson did in this book. It was so well written, and the twists and turns left me guessing until almost the end whom actually was responsible for what was happening in the book. It certainly wasn’t the person I believed it was going to be. I thought the name of the book was aptly named. I would definitely recommend this to those that enjoy suspense/thrillers.
I love Lisa Jackson she is one of my top 5 authors and I was really looking forward to this book. So, of course, I loved it, but I think I expected not to be able to figure out who the killer was, so I was just a little disappointed.
Cast of great characters (even those I loved to hate)!!! There are angry teenagers, crazy friends, stalking, murder, divorce, bitterness, lies, a few tense moments, and sort of an HEA.
I’m hoping there will be another book to tie up a loose end, but will shall see!!!!

Paranoid takes place in a small town where 20 years ago Rachel shot and killed her brother Luke.
His death 20 years later is surrounded by suspicion and lies.
Rachel is paranoid to every sound, every person she thinks is following her, to the dog going outside.
Is it all for a good reason ?
Paranoid is thriller of a ride where the pages fly by as the story unfolds from the past and the present as the bodies add up.
Well worth the read !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paranoid by Lisa Jackson is the story of Rachel Gaston, who lives in Edgewater Oregon with her son and daughter. She is divorced from Detective Cade Ryder but they do have an amicable relationship if only for the kids.
Twenty years ago, Rachel along with some classmates was in an abandoned fish factory with pellet air guns when hers was replaced with a real gun, unbeknownst to her. When someone jumps out she panics and shoots, finds out that the person she shot was her half brother Luke.
Despite counseling Rachel still feels that it was her fault that her brother is dead and blames herself after all of these years. A high school reunion is being planned, she feels that there are objects being moved in her house, whiffs of cologne and cigarette smoke is in the air. She is being tailed and feels that someone is watching her home.
Now that there are classmates being murdered her paranoia increases.
Her ex knows that Rachel has issues but he is not sure whether to believe her or not as to her paranoia. Not only that, her daughter has been sneaking out at night to be with a guy whom Rachel is not fond of. So all of these things come to a horrifying conclusion that I did not see coming.
I had not read a Lisa Jackson novel in quite a few years and I am not sure why I haven’t as I do remember enjoying them. This one was no exception. This book is character driven and is believable. I love the writing as it was pretty suspenseful and I did not see the ending coming but I like to think that the ending is such that there is another book coming with the same characters.
I think that if you enjoy a good psychological thriller that you can’t go wrong with the novel.
Twisted! This is a story filled with many plot twists that will keep you glued to the pages. A small town of horrors where nothing is as it appears. Everyone has secrets that are tied to each other, even the children. It is a chilling read that ha the potential to give you nightmares.
This is the first book that I’ve read by this author and she’s definitely found a new fan! The main character, Rachel, has lived with the guilt of accidentally shooting her half brother, Luke, 20 years ago. Although cleared by the police with a help of a few witnesses, she hasn’t been cleared in the public eye and almost everyone in her town blames her solely for his death. Because it was in a dark abandoned cannery with teenagers running all around shooting air guns and firecrackers, it’s not clear exactly what happened, leaving room for rampant speculation. Now on the anniversary of Luke’s death, another classmate has been found murdered and everyone wants to figure out if it is somehow connected and how much worse things will get.
There’s also a lot of family drama, as Rachel is divorced from her husband, Cade, and as he is with the police, he also is caught up in the mystery. His father happens to be grandfather to Luke’s son, Lucas, who was not born at the time of Luke’s passing. His mother Lila was a classmate and best friend of Rachel’s and by marrying Cade’s dad, she also became Rachel’s (now ex) stepmother! It is all very interconnected and at times may be tough to keep straight. There’s also some repetition, as I swear I read some variant of the phrase ‘but could Luke’s 20 year old case possibly be related to this murder?’ at least 20 times. Just a little trimming of some dialogue here and there would help. It’s not enough to keep from enjoying the story and I would recommend it to anyone in need of a good thriller!
Thanks to @SheSpeaks for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
There is a lot of dysfunction going on in this novel! While it was a quick read and held my attention, I immediately suspected that there was more than meets the eye in this book. There were many clues leading the reader in one direction, maybe too many clues, and then there were obvious clues to what was really going on in the story.
20 years ago, high school kids met at the old cannery to play a game. One teen was killed, and there was a mystery about that. Now, 20 years later, some people are dying and other weird things are happening – are they related to the incident 20 years ago?
Also, Rachel, one of the high schoolers at the cannery, and half sister to the boy who died, is now a divorced mother with 2 teenage kids who are rebellious.
Other things happen in the book that make you think – are families really this dysfunctional?
There is a bit of a cliffhanger at the book – I wonder if there might be a follow up novel??

This starts off with a murder that happens 20 years earlier and the present. The author goes between the two very effortlessly. This is a suspenseful mystery type thriller that has you guessing all the way to the end. Just when you thought you had it figured it out, another plot twist is introduced. Great read by an Author who has easily made a spot on my list of Authors to follow.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Bad Things by Nancy Bush that I read and reviewed.
I loved this book by Nancy Bush once I got use to the writing style that she used in this book. The characters were all engaging and I loved how they all had so much history that played such a large part of the story. This was one of those books that as a reader you had no idea who the killer was until the final reveal and then you still had to wrap your mind about why they did all the “bad things” they did in the book and Bush did a fabulous job with that is this book.
I am giving Bad Things five out of five stars.
This is a book that I’ll be thinking about for a long time. I would call it a suspenseful thriller with some romance thrown in. Lots of characters living all their lives in a small town. Bringing some of the townsfolk together is a twentieth high school reunion that coincides with a murder of one of theirs during that time of high school. Crazy teenagers meeting at an abandoned fish cannery for a late night of fun. Each one is carrying a pellet pistol and among the shots and firecrackers happening, Luke is shot with a real bullet and dies. His half sister Rachel is blamed but is released. Her life has been a mess from that time on with paranoid fears of sounds, feelings of being followed and terrible nightmares. What is real? What is not? Twenty years later classmates begin being murdered starting on the anniversary date of Luke’s death.
If you’re like me you won’t be able to put it down. Lots of twists and turns with more than one surprise to be revealed at the end. I never would have guessed. My kind of writing!
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher through SheSpeaks but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.

PARANOID By Lisa Jackson
Lisa Jackson has woven a complex tapestry of a great story with Paranoid! I was hooked from the start with this book. I read it in one sitting. There are lots of things going on, it’s unpredictable, it twists and it turns, there is never a dull moment! I highly recommend this book, it is a 5 star read.
Rachel, twenty years ago, was playing a game in the old fish cannery with pellet guns, accidental shot and killed her half brother. She was arrested and put on trial but with some of her classmates testifying that they thought the shot came from behind Rachel. She was released but has had to live with the nightmares ever since. Now it’s twenty years later and their upcoming twenty year reunion. When some of their classmates are being killed, and someone texting and leaving messages on Rachel’s door, will the reunion go on? Cade is a cop and Rachel’s ex husband. He is still in love with his wife but can she forgive him for his transgressions? While trying to keep his family safe and find a killer killing now and maybe twenty years ago.
Many different point of views. Suspense, mystery and action. It is not one to read late at night. I absolutely loved it and their might be a second one and I hope so because of the little cliffhanger.
