JUST BECAUSE HER HUSBAND’S NAKED, DEAD, AND IN A HOTEL BED…
…it might not be what it seems. But there’s that scarf in his mouth. Of course it is.
Given the situation, Kiki Lowenstein can’t help remembering that her (late) husband got her pregnant while cheating on his girlfriend.
>>>True, he did the right thing at the time, and their much-loved daughter Anya is now eleven years … daughter Anya is now eleven years old. But suddenly he’s dead, and Kiki’s financially embarrassed—that jerk disinherited his own family!
>>>Time for the timid to toughen up. Passive Kiki transforms herself into a fighter, walking right out of her luxurious life and into a scrapbooking store, where she deftly turns a hobby into a moneymaker. Her new gig goes slightly awry when her late husband’s not-so-ex-girlfriend insults her in public, but that’s just the beginning. The hurts keep piling up. How much can one woman stand?
>>>As her husband’s secret life explodes before her eyes, Kiki discovers that their daughter has a shocking secret of her own. Then the cops come for Kiki. And Family Services comes for Anya. No more Mrs. Nice Guy. Kiki has to fight for all she holds dear, and her quest must start with tracking down her late husband’s killer. Hope arrives for Kiki in the twin forms of a hot, homicide detective and her own newfound ability to cope.

Loved the characters and the plot in general. So much so I just purchased the next book in the series to read now.
Well written with an engaging main character. I got sucked in and couldn’t put it down!
Death changes the lives of Kiki Lowenstein and her
daughter, Anya. George is found dead….naked and
murdered in a hotel room leaving Kiki in serious
debt. She needs to sell their house, all the furniture,
the car, actually everything she owns to be able to
pay off her husband’s debt and support Anya and
herself. His life insurance policy went to his mother
who never liked Kiki.
Now her hobby of scrapbooking becomes her main
source of income. It was very interesting learning
about different aspects of scrapbooking while
trying to figure out how her husband’s death, his
mistress’s death have to due with a killer going
after Kiki and the pictures she took for a client’s
scrap books.
You will meet Gracie, the Great Dane and several
other fur babies that Kiki helps babysit.
I was given a copy of this book for free for a review. I enjoyed the book and found it entertaining. I enjoy this authors writing very much.
This book was a perfect summer read … an entertaining mystery! I can’t wait to read the second book in her series. I enjoyed the characters and story line!
This series is growing on me. I still shake my head at some of the things Kiki does but she is getting smarter. Can’t wait until the next adventure.
It was a fast reader . Never a boring spot i the book. I was able to get into the book right away!
I love Kiki! Something always happens to her and she bounces right back, always positive and improvises when needed. She knows how to handle herself in sticky situations.
Wanted to keep reading and not put it down
A great cozy mystery!
A scrapbooking murder mystery with a cheating husband, female sleuth protagonist and it’s funny! Highly recommend it.
a really good read! Lots of twists and turns. Likeable complex characters. Info about scrapbooking. Insight into Kiki’s life. I loved the book and look forward to reading more!
I really enjoyed this book. The scrapbook angle was clearly woven throughout the mystery, but not so heavy that you lost interest in the story. The mystery kept you guessing, with a few miss leading clues along the way. But above the mystery, crafting, and funny characters, what stood out for me the most was a mother’s love. Kiki’s love and determination to be a wonderful mother was convincing and pulled at the heartstrings. No matter what or how she got knocked down, she keeps going for her daughter. The other interesting mother in the story is Kiki’s mother-in-law. Her grief over the death of her son is also compelling but in a less healthy way. She would just as soon destroy Kiki to get her granddaughter. A few things seem a bit much (blindly paying back the business partner), but Ms. Slan kept the pace moving, and it was easy to overlook. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good cozy mystery.
I liked Kiki and her relationship with her daughter and with her close friends. Her marriage worked, even if it was mostly based on co-parenting. The four-legged character is a charmer, as is the detective. The underlying mystery was interesting, and the culprit was not obvious (a plus). A pleasant light read, likely to please fans of cozy crafts mysteries.
How low can life get? Ask Kiki who seemed to lose everything after the death of her unfaithful husband. Scrapbooking and new friends are what helped her. The characters are outrageous. Which I liked. The twists and turns had my head spinning. I didn’t want to put my book down. And her rescue dog Gracie the great dane will touch any pet owner’s (like myself) heart.
loved this story, authors style definitely want to read more by Ms Slan
Great characters, great story line. Very enjoyable!
Great book! The characters were well developed and believable. It was a great story that was told well
This story weaved an intricate tale of love, privilege and deception but in the end, the truth came out.
Love this Author and I am reading all I can get from the author.
