We recommend this for young adult readers, age 17 and up. We think it’s a book that will appeal to older teens and those adults who are in touch with their inner teen, like us.
Q: Is there a cliffhanger? I’ve heard there’s an awful cliffhanger! Why’d you write a cliffhanger?
We promise that we didn’t set out to write a cliffhanger, but Paper Princess does end in one. The good news is that the next book is up for pre-sale and it will be released July 25, 2016.

I’ve read this series I think 5 times over the last 3 years. I am absolutely in love with it and highly recommend it!
This was a great book!
such a good bool. And even better book series
This was a quick listen book with Young Adult themes. I honestly didn’t even know what the book was truly about but it went on sale and I was out of credits so I purchased it. I enjoyed it and liked how the story went and the narrator. This is a rags to riches kinda story but very enjoyable.
Ella’s mother died when she is just shy of 18. She had been helping pay for the bills as she had been sick for a long time by working 3 job, one of which was stripping. She continues pushing on keeping it a secret that she does not have living family so she doesn’t’ end up in they system. But she gets a surprise when at school she is called to the office and her new guardian is there. Her gardian is her fathers best friend and business partner, Callum Royal. Her father had just found out he even had a daughter and before locating her had passed away. So she is tempted with money that she desperately need in exchange for living with Callum until she graduates. This includes living with his 5 teen/adult very buff and scary sons. They instantly do not like her and assume she is sleeping with their father for money! So she is not only torn from her world she was used to although it sucked, to a world with a new family, a private school that the Royal sons ruled and therefore made her life suck. And all the rich girls in the school were upset the Ella lived with the Royals and were mean to her.
So things finally start to move in a direction where the son’s are more accepting to her. Esp Easton and Reed. Reed is like the leader of the Royal brothers so naturally he is the one to take a bigger interest in her. He treated her like crap in the beginning because of her “stripper” background but later regretted that. Once in a totally epic win for Ella! But he did apologize for how he acted much later. It was weird for the whole stepbrother almost thing but their chemistry was great!
Reed comes to her rescue in a time of need before things turn from bad to worse case scenario for her. The whole Royal clan takes her in and I love how strong Ella is. She has a backbone of steel. No matter what happens to her she stays strong. Its refreshing to not have a weepy crying female.
That cliffhanger though! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
I love this book but it got me in trouble a lot cuz I could not set it down
Paper princess is a really fun book. I loved how the main character has such an infrequently acknowledged job, and how witty she is. Each character is distinguishable and make each paragraph fun. A definite must read.
This review MAY contain spoilers.
I was completely absorbed by this book! OMG, I fell into it like Alice fell into a hole that led her to Wonderland. I licked up every word of this book and I still wasn’t sated. This book was that addicting.
For a contemporary, this has some pretty legit (and I’m talking the Urban Dictionary definition, not the Webster’s Dictionary definition) world-building. This story centers around people that are filthy stinking rich and I felt like I was right there with them. The small details and the apt descriptions of this world were exactly on the mark.
The plot of this story set me on fire! My god, there is so much drama and I couldn’t devour it fast enough! The awesome thing about this book is that it does drama right. And by that, I mean that it was believable. Most “drama” in books comes across as outlandish but in this book, it doesn’t. It is totally fathomable and it really works. I really enjoyed the premise of the story and I really appreciate how captivating the storytelling is.
The characters in this book are freaking amazing! I felt so much for each and every one of them. Even the antagonists. All of the characters are written so masterfully. I love that most of these characters have extreme character flaws. It really makes them feel realistic. The chemistry between characters will have you on the edge of your seat with anticipation. It will devour you. The personalities of the characters are so animated that you can’t help but to adore them all.
The romance was extremely suspenseful. The romantic tension is so intense that if it were measured on the Richter scale then entire countries would be lost. This is the hate-to-love romance of my dreams. I like how the guy has real reasons to justify his hatred towards the girl in the beginning. I like that things are not black and white. Things are messy and the romance reflects that. It really will burn you right up.
I thought that it is worth mentioning that this book is about teenagers in high school between the ages of about 16-18 and they are doing some very adult things. There are some younger characters and at least one older character, but in general, these are high school kids. This may be about high school kids, but this book is written like a new adult book. There are some VERY adult things going on. I don’t think that I would feel comfortable with my twelve-year-old reading this. Just saying.
Overall, this book pretty much blew my mind with how much I loved it! After reading some reviews I was on the fence about how my overall impression would be once I read the book. I initially had the feeling that the romance would not be something that I would enjoy, but I was shocked that it was the opposite reaction. I certainly recommend this book. I this is the kind of book that you should maybe ignore other opinions on and just read for yourself. I would have missed out on an incredible read if I had listened to other reviewers on this one. This book does contain some pretty serious themes so if you are sensitive to heavy topics then I would skip over this one. I will be starting the next book immediately!
READ AND REVIEWED JUNE 2016
Reed Royal got me all hot and bothered, my mind’s spinning right now, I dunno if I could write one coherent review after reading The Royals. But one thing is for sure, this is better than I expected. I’m all for the adult scenes, it didn’t put me off or had me cringing because compared to the other more mature, erotic/new adult books I’ve read, Paper Princess is a little tamer. But definitely bolder and gave me all these different kinds of feels. I swear I’ve been slapped a couple of times by my youngest son because I wasn’t paying attention to his needs, because I was totally engrossed with Ella and Reed and also Easton!
The story tells about the stripper-orphan-turned-princess overnight Ella Harper, who never met her father but was survived by her cancer-stricken mother (or the other way around). When her mother died, Ella forged her signature to enroll herself in school and get away from the foster system. But fate had other plans for her. Soon she met Callum Royal, who insisted that he was friends with her deceased father, Steve O’Halloran. You’d think she would be living the life of a princess after their encounter at the strip club. NOT!
Because the moment she set foot in the Royal Palace, four pairs of gorgeous eyes met hers with disdain and hatred. (They’re supposed to be five, but the oldest Royal was in college, so she didn’t get to meet Gideon). Anyway, the four hot sons of aviation magnate Callum Royal thought she was a gold digger, or maybe their father’s mistress. Reed, Easton, twins Sebastian and Sawyer made her life miserable in the next few days, and her life in Astor Park turned upside down.
Until the day Ella saved one of them and proved she didn’t have any hidden motives whatsoever living in their palace. But that’s not where the story ended. That was just the beginning. And believe me when I say this, I cursed a lot of expletives when I got that damn cliffhanger.
Now, let’s talk about the characters. I really love Ella, she’s ballsy, feisty, gutsy. She fights for her rights and knows how to defend herself. She may be proud and indecisive sometimes, but she’s also calculating, soft and prude. I don’t know why I describe her like that, but I really like her.
Among the Royals, Reed was the man! I thought I’d get tired of all the bad boy stereotyped kind of guy, but Ella’s description and desperation for Reed made him all the more exciting and addictive. Reed The Destroyer definitely takes the cake, and… surprise, surprise, Easton comes in next. I love this brothers’ relationship. They’re supportive, manipulative and both are a hot mess. The kind of mess I want to get involved with. (Sorry, I’m a slut sometimes, I can’t help it, LOL)
With the attitude of the rich guys almost owning the school and behaving like they own the world, hell yes, I guarantee you, there are people like the Royals who thought they could get away from everything. Not everyone, but definitely there are some. I’ve worked a decade in an online/Internet American company and had made friends with our members and they’ve told me countless stories about rich kids with bad attitudes.
I think the writers did an amazing job in capturing the readers attention and maintaining that thrill until the next book arrives. I love a great book that makes me think of all the possible reasons why this or that happened. The possibilities are endless, I discerned.
I really enjoyed this book. I’ve got to admit, it wasn’t at all what I thought it would be like after hearing the hype for so long, but I was not disappointed. This is just the kind of book I have come to love, full of angst and drama and almost soap opera-like in the situations the characters find themselves in.
First of all, the Royals aren’t literally royal, though they’re treated as such…that’s just their last name. Also, who doesn’t love a good rags to riches story and that’s just what we get with Ella, only with a lot of tragedy and hard times thrown in.
Secondly, we’ve got some hot brothers who have a lot of angst and their own tragedies to work through. Little did they realize how good Ella would be for the family!
I’ve already moved on to book 2 because this series just grabbed me and sucked me in.
“The Apple is dangling in front of me, juicy, red and delicious, but like the fairytale, Reed Royal is the villain disguised as the pretty prince”
HOLY AMAZING BOOK ALERT Ughhh where do I even begin with this book!? The cover doesn’t lie folks. These royals will, and absolutely do, ruin you. But in the best way possible.
The build up of attraction between Reed and Ella was insane, and had me swooning and needing to read more. And Easton! He was one of my favorite characters!
Do yourself a favor, because you will LOVE yourself for it, and go get this book. It’s such an addicting series! GO GO GO
“We’re good in bed, but out of it, we are like a stage 4 hurricane.” -Paper Princess, Chapter 22, Erin Watt
What just happened? What actually just happened????
I knew going into this that it would end on a cliffhanger, but… what just happened?
This book was so good. I’ve been eyeing this book since it first came out, but I never really gave it a shot because it was Young Adult Romance, which is something I haven’t really tended to read a whole lot of. But now that I’ve read it, I’m wondering why I waited so long.
Ella is our super-strong female lead. She’s a 17 year old who’s had a rough go at life, and having a recently deceased mother and never having met her father, she’s surprised when a man shows up at school one day claiming to be her legal guardian there to whisk her away to his Royal castle.
Enter the Royal brothers, who make her life hell. They were awful. And the one brother that Ella cannot help but be drawn to despite herself is Reed Royal. These boys have more money than they know what to do with, but they also have power.
This book was so well written. There were only a couple of parts that gave me a bit of pause… like the revenge exacted on Mr. Delacourt, that scene seemed a little on the cheesy side, so much so that it kind of took me out of the story being believable at that point, but it was such a small scene I can’t really complain.
Above all, this book was steamy. I feel like this is worth mentioning because this is not at all what I expected. We’re talking about a 17 year old main character who’s doing everything but the actual deed, here. But holy steam, Batman! There is some serious chemistry between Ella and Reed. This enemies to lovers trope was one of the best done I think I’ve ever read, and it is one of my all time favorite tropes to read.
I’d say even if you don’t love YA Romance, still give this one a try because you won’t be disappointed. However, if it’s a hard limit for you to read underage characters doing adult activities, you probably will want to skip this one. It is consensual and between characters with only 1 year age difference.
I had this book for like 5 months at home and i didn’t read it, and I really don’t know why. I felt this book. Every time I read a scene I got red and my body wasn’t under my controls. I just love it
The Royals are used to live a life of excess, parties, and lies, things haven’t been the same since their mother left their lives.. it seems like they’re just moving with the motion but nothing is the same.. a constant darkness has filled their home.. not until Callum Royal brings Ella Harper to their doorsteps and the sun starts to shine..
“You may have lost your family, but you’re not alone anymore, Ella. You’re a Royal now.”
“This will never be my home. I don’t belong in splendor, I belong in squalor. That’s what I know. It’s what I’m comfortable with because squalor doesn’t lie to you. It’s not wrapped up in a pretty package. It is what it is.”
Reed Royal lives a very dangerous life of excess, women, and fights, he had everything he ever wanted, except what he wanted the most the love of his mother. He didn’t trust anybody, just his brothers and sometimes his father.. his focus was only on the game and his team, nothing was more important than this. not until she came into his home and wreck him forever… his life, his plans his future, his walls are going to crumble and he will have to let it happen if he wants to survive.
“The apple is dangling in front of me, juicy red and delicious, but, like the fairy tale, Reed Royal is the villain disguised as a pretty prince. Taking a bite out of him would be a huge mistake.”
Ella Harper was trying to escape from a very hard past. she spends the first years of her life traveling from town to town with her mother until something very bad happened that left her all alone. working on multiple jobs that not necessarily are acceptable for her age, Ella has made it for a while but still, she is very unsure of what to expect until someone shows ups and gives her the opportunity of her lifetime.. to start all over again without having to worry about money and food ever again.. Nothing will be easy, everything comes with a price and her price will be higher than she ever expected.. to endure laughs and bullies from people she never met, even from the people whom sooner or later she will have to learn to trust.
“You should know whatever game you’re playing, you can’t win. Not against all of us. If you leave now, you won’t be hurt. If you stay, we’ll break you so bad that you’ll be crawling away.”
Paper Princess is a roller coaster of emotions, there are so many twists and turns, a lot of situations that you won’t see them coming.. this is a book with a lot of teenage drama that will keep you entrained.. there are so many great moments in the story as well as great laughs and cries..
“Somewhere along the line, I started thinking that if I just got through this bad experience, this bad day, that tomorrow I’d have something better, brighter, newer. I still believe that. I still believe that there’s something good out there for me. I just have to keep going until my time comes.”
Ella and Reed’s chemistry was very strong since the very beginning of the story, they kept trying to hide their emotions making us feel their rejections, and fears before they even notice their love and attraction for each other.
“Reed Royal has broken me. I’ve fallen from the sky and I’m not sure I can get up. Not this time.”
This is the first book in the Royals series, in this book, you meet so many great characters that you’re going to love and see in the next royal books: Easton, Gideon, The Twins, Brooke, Val, Dinah O’Halloran, and many more that bring so much to this story.. get ready to meet all the crazy shenanigans of the Royals and Ella Harper..
“You belong with us. You’re the best thing that ever happened to this family.”
“Nothing stays shiny forever in this world.”
Kicking myself for waiting so long to dive into these!! This is absolutely my favorite kind of story!! Addictive, twisty, and hotties for days all with crutches, bent edges, and chips a mile wide on their shoulders!! The writing was impeccable, drew me in like a moth to a flame, I DEVOURED the first three books in less than two days!! I did nothing else but Reed (that sounds a little dirty) !!!
“This place is like the Garden of Eden. Beautiful, but full of danger.”
Not knowing what is coming at you, and with so much going on, you become lost in this world the Author created with vivid imagery, characters, and a plot line so intense, you’re not going to want to leave the safety of your seat until you’ve inhaled the entire thing!!
“The apple is dangling in front of me, juicy red and delicious, but like the fairy tale, Reed Royal is the villain disguised as a pretty prince.”

The synopsis I was sent for this had my intrigued even though I don’t normally read books with high school kids as the main characters. I was very interested in seeing where they went with this. I’m glad I took it.
I started this last night and the first few chapters were a little hard to get through. They just didn’t flow very well for me. After those chapters it did pick up for me and it was ok for the rest of the book. It was almost like these two authors were figuring out how to write together and it took them a minute to get their voice. This was my reason for the 4 stars. That and one other comment but it’s spoiler-ish so I’m not gonna say it.
I enjoyed this book besides what I’ve already said and I’m looking forward to book 2. The characters were great and the story was good and I’m excited to see what’s next.
ETA: It’s been a few weeks since I’ve read this book and I still can’t get it out of my head. The story was so good it made up for the few problems I did have. These royals won’t let go of you.
Who else got sucked into this? This girl sure the hell did. Cheese and rice the drama, the games, the hate, the secrets, the lies, the betrayals….I loved every freaking frackin’ minute of it. Color me all kinds of hooked on The Royals. Seriously can’t wait for the next 2 books. Why did I wait so long to read this?!?!
Sidenote – OMG I kept humming Royals by Lorde the whole damn time.
Great High School Romance book and one I won’t forget too soon. This was such an emotional rollercoaster and I enjoyed every word of it.
After her mother’s death, 17 year-old Ella Harper has to face either going into foster care or living on the street. Life is not a walk in the park for young Ella and things get even worse when the Royals (bless ’em) come into the picture. All hell breaks loose when the four Royal siblings realize that Ella is no stray kitten their father has brought home but that she is going to stay with them for as long as she wants. In a sentence? Hate at first sight, and it’s a four-against-one fight. An amazing battle of wills then ensues and allegiances are put to the test. To make things more complicated than they already are, bullies at school, sexual tension galore at home and Ella’s slow but steady change of heart about one of the siblings, all make Paper Princess the best HS Romance I have read so far. I loved how each brother has a different personality and how they have each other’s backs, through thick and thin. What really stands out though is Ella’s integrity and strength, her sassy mouth and her weaknesses, her tough street-wise self and her romantic streak. Who the winner is among the five Royal siblings is still to debate because the book ends with a huge, ginormous, humongous cliffhanger so pardon me, but I need to start reading Book #2, Broken Prince, NOW!
I was going through my kindle last night and Came across this, I had purchased it back in June 2018,my one click finger is out of control if I miss beauties like this.
Absolutely loved this.
I won’t lie. I was, for some reason, a but reluctant to read this. like I stated I had it on my kindle for a long time before finally biting the bullet and wow… I could kick my own butt, I am so glad I finally read it. The only downside ? – thinking I now HAVE TO GO GET THE REST.
What did I love? I loved Reed. I loved his brothers. Particularly E. I loved Ella. It’s unusual to love a female protagonist and main character as much, but i actually didn’t find her too much of anything annoying. Usually the author, I find, over the tops on something like their ‘weakness’ but Ella was what you could realistically expect without being boring (considering she has to be a little bit exaggerated as a fictional character).
I loved the chemistry.
I hated the ending.
But I loved it.
God. Emotional turmoil over it all!
THE NEXT ONE IS WAITING TO BE READ
I need to see what happens with Ella, Reed, Callum and the rest of the Royals.
Good job – please read this but be warned, don’t start too late because the early hours of the morning soon creep up on you! 3 hours sleep night before you visit your heart specialist is not good. worth it but not good.
I love this series! Ella surrounded by 6 yummy Royal brothers…yeah, I wouldn’t mind that. There are a lot of twists and turns in this series and it’s impossible to get bored.
“You should know whatever game you’re playing, you can’t win. Not against all of us. If you leave now, you won’t be hurt. If you stay, we’ll break you so bad that you’ll be crawling away.”
Wow! I didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. I couldn’t read it fast enough. It was addictive and really kept me on my toes. I felt like Ella was the perfect main character. She didn’t just roll with the punches. She was sassy and a fighter. Homegirl didn’t take no shit! These brothers were mean, savage, and just plain assholes. As the story went on you start like them, get a little attached to them.
That ending had me ordering the book on amazon so quick. Seriously! That ending tried to break me!
