Everyone at Sheffield Bed and Breakfast is excited about the prestigious wedding scheduled on the side lawn of the Inn. Besides that, Brenda Rivers expects a full house of guests the same weekend. Allie Williams, Reservationist, notes that not every guest appears happy at check in. Nadia Bouchard and Melody Basset both express by demeanor private motives for coming to Sweetfern Harbor. Deep … resentment seems embedded in them, something Allie can’t put her finger on to explain. Brenda meets with her guests after check-in. She finds them friendly, including Nadia. Melody is the only guest who does not show up for the first get-together, but Brenda decides to catch up with her later. Allie describes her as someone unhappy and morose. The one distinguished older man is more sedate in nature than the younger guests. Roland Thorne has his own agenda for coming to Sweetfern Harbor.
Melody spends much of her time near the waterfront. The Atlantic Ocean mesmerizes her in a strange way. Nadia finds solace near the ocean, too, but first she must visit the Owner of Sweet Treats, Hope Williams. The encounter intensifies Nadia’s anger toward Hope, though Hope can’t figure out why. Even when Nadia explains her reasons, Hope is at a loss. When Allie asks Brenda if she can spend her break time with her mother at Sweet Treats to help with a large order, Brenda readily agrees.
When Allie doesn’t return later as expected, Brenda and her Head Housekeeper Phyllis Pendleton sense something has gone wrong. Brenda’s fears are verified when she and Phyllis find Sweet Treats to be locked and lights turned off. Clues of disturbance in the alley behind the shop causes Brenda to determine the two women have been kidnapped.
When Brenda’s husband Detective Mac Rivers reports the newcomer in town, Andrea Franklin has been murdered in Sweet Treats, both are convinced Allie and Hope Williams have been taken hostage. Brenda will experience an encounter with an angry guest of hers downtown. Nadia passes Brenda and Phyllis, unseeing, on her way back to the bed and breakfast. Next Brenda will find herself in mortal danger with a madwoman on the slated cliff that juts out over the ocean. She wonders if she will survive any of it. More importantly, will it be too late for Allie and Hope?

Panic in the Treats, is a Sweetfern Harbor Mystery series by Wendy Meadows. It’s an enjoyable afternoon read with a great blending of murder and suspense with a touch humor. It was easy to jump right into the story and get to know these well developed characters. The twisted mind of the killer, the intrigue and suspense make this a mystery that’s sure to capture your interest from the beginning.
The Sheffield Bed & Breakfast is preparing for a large prestigious wedding. All the B&B rooms are filled with wedding and other guests. Unfortunately, not all the guests seem to be enjoying their visit. Instead, they seem to have their own objectives for their visit.
There’s murder and kidnappings to solve. Just as you figure out who the guilty person is, you turn the page and now you’re not so sure. You keep going back and forth until the big reveal.
When amateur sleuth Brenda helps out her police detective husband, you know there is a madcap adventure to be had. If you enjoy cozy mysteries with quirky characters, a bit of humor, lots of mystery and adventure, then this five-star story, and the series, is for you.

Another fine addition to this series. Fun, excitement and rabbit trails galore!!! Read and see which trail traps you!!!
Big wedding at the B&B. Even the guests can attend. The receptionist has the eye for sizing up the guests. She informs the owner. One at least has an agenda, another has interesting look on life. Others are looking to rekindle the romance in their lives. And so it goes on….
I admit the I had the one with the agenda figured out early on. The interesting outlook on life was interesting. But what happened with the guests with the rekindling? Did I miss something. Did not have the who done it till the end. Nice job getting me there.
I love reading this author’s books because I enjoy them, and they are fast and easy to read, and small enough to read in one sitting or a day. I read this one in one sitting in a couple of hours.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
Well this was a great story. Sheffield B&B has a big wedding going down and new guest arriving. Allie notices a couple of guest were a little off but hope the sea air and shops would change their demeanor. She voiced her worries to Brenda. Brenda noticed it at dinner time. Nadia Bouchard just seemed stuffy but Melody Bassett didn’t show up at all.
The next day Brenda hears of Nadia causing a ruckus at Sweet Treats, Hope Williams shop. She wonders until she experiences it and has to threaten to arrest Nadia for disturbing the peace. When asked Hope has no ideal what Nadia is talking about and what she wants. Melody shows up at the shop and is standoffish to everyone.
The evening of the big wedding a guest reports to Brenda that Sweet Treats is closed. Brenda wondered because all the shops stay open late because of the tourist in town. Her and Phyllis walk to check it out. The shop is shut tight with no lights and blinds closed. Brenda’s intuition tells her something is wrong. They try calling Hope and Allie with no answer from each. Next she calls Mac to come to the shop. He knows when Brenda says something is wrong it is. So begins the hunt to find Hope and Allie and also who murdered the girl in the supply closet.
I tell you this is another winning series by Mrs Meadows. I love several of her series. When you start reading you cannot stop.

Brenda was hoping for a weekend with no murder or mystery. The Sheffield Bed and Breakfast was hosting a very important wedding and also had a full house if guests. One of the guests seemed to harbor a grudge against Hope. Brenda and Mac end up racing against time to find Hope and Allie before something unmentionable happens. In the end Brenda did find Hope and Allie, who were both physically unharmed. She and Mac were able to detain the kidnapper without anyone getting seriously injured.
