Zombies.. really?Things go from amazing to appalling for Brighton in the course of one evening.First, there’s a marriage proposal. Then, there’s a creepy thing at the edge of the woods. That’s all followed up by a dead witch who was dabbling in necromancy. More than dabbling, actually. That crazy witch was rolling around in it like a pig in mud.Unfortunately, Brighton and friends will learn the … Brighton and friends will learn the hard way how tough it is to break a dead witches spell.
Panic Broom is the 5th book in the Wicked Witches of Coventry series.

Zombies. This one centers around zombies. Am I serious? Yep. The premise is pretty exciting, where a fairly powerful witch has been fucking around with necromancy and then is murdered right in the middle of her spell (well, shit), but that’s pretty much all that’s interesting about this. There’s a marriage proposal I saw coming from a mile away and there are some funny and cute moments, but this series is starting to go downhill. The writing and editing are getting very sloppy. I’ll keep going (for now) and see what’s next.
Good story with a good cliffhanger. Clearly this isn’t a one book situation as now the tale has progressed into more than just figuring out the murderer. And boy is figuring out the murderer hard as the story doesn’t give up easy clues. The entire book is also different than most cozy witch mysteries I have read. I definitely need to jump to the next book to see what happens next in this zombie apocalypse.
However, the book feels more rushed than usual. The book is definitely shorter than the others, too. Also, with all the chaos and worry, it sure seems like the zombies are mostly elsewhere and not too much in the way of solving the death of Aunt Margery and the issue of the curse.
Other issues:
1. Brighton questions how the coven will be able to help if they don’t know what is going on. No one says the coven won’t know anything. Amelda even originally plans to get the elders together until Brighton volunteers herself, Remy, and Annika. The only thing stated is getting as few people as possible involved, which isn’t saying no one will know.
2. Remy puts on the necromancy amulet, but then later Brighton asks Remy to put on the amulet. Remy says he will later. It is never shown that he takes it off or isn’t wearing it, though.
3. It takes until the end of book 5 of Wicked Witches of Coventry to learn there are vampires? I guess if there are shifters and zombies there are vampires, too. I can see this as a shocking surprise, though, for those who haven’t started with Familiar Kitten Mysteries, where vampires (although not shifters) come up in the middle of book 1. Zombies is discussed at the start of book 1 of Familiar Kitten Mysteries. Also, shifters is easier to accept as it is eased into the story and is more believable in a world of witches. Zombies are easy, too, because of necromancy. Vampires just come out of the blue in both series.
4. Some areas I have no clue who is speaking.
5. A repeated phrase, although in a different way.
“You guys, there could be billions. We don’t know yet if this is something happening in Coventry or the whole world. Or we don’t know if it’s just happening in Coventry, but it will spread.

This is a busy time for Brighton, a wedding proposal, zombies, and a dead witch. So much to do and so little time. If they don’t solve the murder, the zombies won’t go away. Brighton has been infected and if they don’t find a cure, she will be a zombie.
This is a great paranormal cozy mystery full of kooky characters in small town full of witches. I really enjoyed the mystery and the creative personalities that are in the involved in solving the mystery. I found the storyline flowed smoothly and quickly, full of action and suspects, clues and magic. I look forward to the next adventure.
A lot has happened since the last book and Brighton has her hands full with not only her good news but the influx of ..Zombies!! I really liked how we got an answer to something brought up in previous books and it was very interesting seeing how the Skeenbauer witches react to Brighton needing help. Can the war between the Tuttlesmith and Skeenbauer families finally be over or is this just a truce while they try and work out how to stop the horde?! Another great addition to the series and can not wait to see whats next for Remy and Brighton.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Finally Remy and Brighton find their way together. And naturally she runs to the ladies to call Annika before she remembers she has yet to say yes. Typical for Brighton/ and for the pair of them.
They seem to be on the verge of starting their lives together when the latest disaster leaves Brighton circling death again.
Brighton needs more than her friends and more than their family this time.
Love the story. Love the KU part. Hating waiting to find out what happens next!
If you are a fan of small town and paranormal mysteries, this is an addicting series to get hooked on!
