Detective Charlie Crawford is having a tough week. First, Palm Beach’s ex-police chief washes up dead on the beach behind The Breakers. Then Charlie’s friend’s niece is abducted without a trace. As if that wasn’t bad enough, his brother just checked himself into a clinic for depression and alcoholism. The good news is Charlie’s love life has never been better…except with the woman he really loves.
Good characters. Good twisty storyline. Like too many modern books and movies need major editing — this one too — because they go on too long.
I really enjoyed reading this book.
I’m about half-way through the novel (didn’t realize it was the fourth book in a series) and it’s been a solid detective procedural with a hint of “Spenser” humanity. The characters are pretty likable and the situations aren’t radically unlikely. It’s well paced and clever clues are dropped casually through conversations or flash-backs.
I really like this series of books. The characters are interesting and dialogue is fun to read. I would definitely read another book by this author.
Great mystery that moves along nicely and keeps you guessing almost ’til the end.
Easy reading

The whole series
I was absolutely disappointed in this book which is the first time I have said that about any book in this series. The main characters are written as forgetful morons and not their usual smart detectives. Too many things introduced then ignored as possible reasons for the murders. I will continue if there is another book in this series but I just hope it gets back to the way it used to be.
